When it comes to busy schedules, there's a quote from Cortney Carver that I love. "Doing more things doesn't make you a better person, it makes you a tired person."
Case in point: my in-laws are too busy (AGAIN) to fulfill family obligations. Sports come first. My family, my children take all the responsibilities that come with having older grandparents. My husband and I alone are moving his parents to a new home this week. Funny enough we're the only homeschoolers in this large family.
My mom always told me this: clutter in the house/car is an indication of what’s going on in someone’s mind. I have never forgotten that ever and that’s why a clutter free, simple house is a must for less anxiety in my life. ❤ thanks again for always inspiring.
So I’m assuming you don’t spend hours at a gym. The way you stepped up on that stool and then got back down w/o using your hands was impressive. Look how fit you are and you work your farm, your house and your family. You prioritize God and family and you are a stroooong woman in so many ways. I’m 64 and I hope young women are able to see the value in your lifestyle. You are a rock star
@@ritahamm1893 I was also very impressed when I saw that, I'm 45 and my knees oh boy. I'm a homemaker that's why I enjoy her channel so much, she really has given me some very good perspectives on what is really important in homemaking and what is just not necessary.
I'm an 82 y/o lady who loves this channel. My life is very different, yet we share a lot. I find I'm subtly influenced by watching these fascinating and rather enchanting videos. They help me to re-frame my daily housekeeping habits. They make life easier, more relaxed. THANK YOU❣love from San Diego county (Encinitas) California.
Hello from a 30 year old San Diego native! I grew up down the street from SDSU. ☺️♥️ My family and I moved to Alabama 6 years ago and then to Georgia 4 years ago, and I sure do miss the San Diego burritos, tacos, and sushi. I love this channel too-as a homeschooling mother of 5 little ones, all under 8! My life is very different from Lisa's as well, though, as we're in a tiny third floor apartment! 😆
My husband is the middle child. He grew up in a very strict home run mostly by his mother as his father worked shiftwork. His father was never around for him and as a result he has no relationship with him. He would actually hear about his successes in sports through his workmates. And I have to say it has been very hard on our relationship to the point where I think about divorce often. It really warms my heart to see you spend time with your middle son. It will go so far and be so meaningful later on in life. I know my husband is not alone and that a lot of middle children were raised like him but to see you intentionally breaking that generational chain is so amazing. I’m grateful to see it. Thank you Justin.
We also do not do sports or any evening activities. We homeschool and we like to keep our evenings free for hospitality and to spend with Dad when he gets home from his job as a chaplain at the local state prison. He has a difficult, but important job and we don't want to be busy and stressed in the evenings running kids everywhere. I love not being busy. It's very counter cultural ;)
Plenty in modern culture worth countering! I know some people thrive with the busy schedules, and good for them. But here’s to owning plenty of time at home!
Dave Ramsey is amazing and I have learned so much from him thru the years. We sold our big custom home, bought 50 acres and built a smaller home, and all cash too. We raise beef cattle, dairy cattle, hogs, turkeys and chickens. We are almost 100% debt free and man does it feel amazing too. We buy everything with cash, and no credit cards Rule of thumb for a big purchase: wait 24 hrs and pray about it. Americans have the attitude of instant gratification and they've lost the idea of saving up for things, and the feeling you have when you can finally go buy it. Thankful for your channel Blessings from Texas ❤
My garden mantra is ”whatever gets done is good enough”. I have to remind myself because I want to do a lot more, I do get quite a lot of vegetables but if I don’t remember my mantra the garden stresses me out. I love listening to you speak about homemaking, Lisa.
Summer as a kid for me was great. I grew up in the country and I'd run around barefoot in shorts, outside, riding my bike, all of it. I didn't do sports. Took a few weeks total of swimming lessons when I was real young, but no nearby pool either. Totally unstructured time which was great for me. I loved that.
Listen you spoke directly to me about being busy as a distraction from doing the things you actually need to do but do not want to do. Definitely for me I am the master of procrasticleaning to avoid paper work anything corporate related. You also spoke directly to me about not having to have everything perfect and doing everything all the time. I love your approach to family life and living, going with the flow, appreciating the now and stop aiming for perfection, there is no such thing. Busyness is not the same as productivity. This will definitely stick with me.
Busyness as a form of procrastination. (love the procrasta-cleaning phrase too ☺️) That is something I will remember and be thinking about!! Well said. ❤️❤️
Procrasticleaning..... Guilty! Also, I should be packing for the trip we leave for tomorrow morning.... I'm making ice cream, and spent the past 3 days canning. Yeah, I might have been being "busy" instead of "productive" 😅
Really useful, thank you! Just what we needed here. We are a home-schooling family of nine (in a moderate 3 bedroom house) and we have been binge watching decluttering videos at the moment, but I love your philosophy, focusing on priorities, on children and time rather than just managing "things!"
Your houseplant analogy really hit home! Literally because I have so many houseplants (time to simplify) and figuratively…all those little foxes take up so much brain space and time! Thank you for being lovely friend ❤
We got rid of cable in 2016. We watch wholesome movies like little house on the prairie. Nothing usually in the summer. Being retired and getting up there in age makes you prioritize 😂 Can’t garden anymore but support our local farmers. Still canning. Got rid of Instagram in January. God really spoke to me about that. You are doing good Lisa sharing because so many people have the wrong idea about what is important. God bless you and your family!
“Let go of perfection.” As a lifelong perfectionist, hearing you say that & seeing how you implement that in your own busy life (and the reasons why) is helping me move forward with lots of decluttering & simplifying!! Thank you Lisa!! You are so inspiring!
I just adore your videos! This video was great. I am 21 weeks along with my first baby and I am just in total bliss getting ready for our little girl. So excited for a winter snuggly baby. Definitely excited to rewatch your older videos when I am nursing shortly. Your videos are just so relaxing and wholesome. Thanks so much always Lisa.
I also enjoy your videos. Especially while working. It's great to get advice on how to simplify our lives especially when we are so busy as parents throughout the year. Thank you so much for sharing. You mentioned earlier learning to say no. I think that was definitely for me. You spoke about how its ok to say no sometimes. You have to do what's best for your family. I really needed to hear that. I've been struggling with a decision I made a few days ago and I just been praying am I doing the right thing. Sometimes we want to help our families when they need help but there comes a time when you need to break free because it can be exhausting sometimes especially when your so used to doing something for them all the time. I'm learning that it's ok to say no, especially when I have a family to take care of and I work full time it can really hinder my own time. 😊
Whenever I hear about online thrift shops my initial response is excitement, but then as I hear more it becomes apparent that we have different ideas about being "thrifty". I will not pay more than $10 for a single tank top, I just won't, much less so a used one. But i will say, ya killing it lady! Your outfits match your personality and you are beautiful.
Something that’s really important to me is that my clothes aren’t made in sweatshops. Second hand is a pretty good ethical choice, but personally I like to buy fewer things at moderate prices and from brands I know something about so I can be fairly sure no one is suffering for me to look cute
Thank you for this encouragement. I have so! Much! Stuff! Sitting on almost every flat surface. Trying to organize but its so difficult and i want to push it off as long as i can
Great tips! I thought I was helping myself by having cleaning supplies in every bathroom and batteries in 3 different places, NO! I could never remember what was needed in each location, making inventory impossible. Thanks!
Oh my gosh, Lisa, you are my hero(ine)!! I've already left FB & Instagram, and just stay on YT. But recently, I've found myself doing the SAME THING!! I happened to have seen something about a month ago that I wished instantly I could unsee. When I kept revisiting it in my mind, I thought, "Maybe that's not even a thing. Maybe that's just hearsay, or fiction, or myth & legend. Just because people believe unicorns are real, doesn't make them real." So in my way, I'm doing the same- waiting a little while to let the icky wash out of my brain, and I do end up forgetting. Little by little, my world becomes smaller, and that gives me my power back. Love ya girl!!! Big hugs!
The garden and canning projects are a passion of mine. I love raising and preserving our food. Then I'm sure of what is in it. Now if I could convince my family to declutter, I could spend more time in the garden. Love your channel.
Your videos on night (different time zone here) are relaxing for me. It really calms me down. I just love watching you do things around the farmhouse and it gives me inspiration❤
I wholeheartedly agree with picking your family priorities, plus they will definitely change throughout the years! I find that I get older, I love to have a bigger vegetable garden and experiment with different variety of vegetables that I haven’t grown before. This year, we’re growing pumpkins and corn, which I’m so looking forward to eating. I know what you mean about downsizing with “things” in my living room. I got rid of quite a few books and figurines, but unfortunately, they’ve slowly starting to creep back in. I’ve put my foot down this time and told my family to put them in their bedrooms, since I’ve had it with more things to dust! As for fashion, I have picked a few trousers, skirts, shirts, jeans and one jacket, that I can interchange and make different outfits with. Thank you sharing your vlog with us, thoroughly enjoyed it!
In addition to decluttering SO MUCH, even furniture, we moved our little kids' clothes to dresser on the main level. It was such a game changer! They can't dress themselves, are potty training and messy, and I was constantly running upstairs to get their clothes. It made no sense. Now I can put their laundry away and dress them so quickly.
Agree. I made our laundry room into both of my little kids’ closet. I do hang the clothes to dry, so it’s a trip out and back in, but not into bedrooms!
Your content is so encouraging! Thank you so much for sharing your perspective. It’s refreshing and grounding, and by comparison it makes me realize how other content doesn’t make me feel so good. I’m getting married this fall and content like this and your last few videos on cooking flow have me sooo excited and inspired for this upcoming chapter of life!
Thank you for sharing these 9 tips. Homemaking is so important, and finances are too! Thanks for sharing Dave Ramsey with your viewers. Love your videos! ❤
I needed this video. I think I do cleaning instead of my calendar and desk work. I feel overwhelmed with desk work, but then it piles up like crazy and I’m even more overwhelmed. I’ve been watching UA-cam videos with FlyLady, but I know myself. I have never been able to meal plan! What makes me think that I can plan, schedule, and order my life? 😂 My home is uncluttered and tidy; except for where I stuff things think cabinets and drawers. Also, I’m a prepper, so one room is designated to that and freezers. I still find it overwhelming and I loved what you said about the silent to do list. Thank you Lisa!
I have two kids and we also nixed the sports- after doing them when they were 4 (t-ball) 5 (soccer). We decided spending every weekend doing sports practices and games was just not for us! What a joy it was to do other things with our weekends! Once your child is in high school, I think that is when kids really choose what they want to do with extra curricular activities. PS: I am so impressed how you were able to just step up on that stool! 1:52!!
As a mom in my mid thirties still renting a small two bedroom apartment with my husband and our daughter, I have a hard time letting go of clutter at this point. We are so close to buying our forever home and it’s looking like a real possibility in the year to come. We love antiques and have a hard time saying no to a really great deal if it’s a piece we love that will be functional for our home someday. Virtually everything we own I love. It drives me crazy that there is way too much storage furniture for the flow of our little apartment but this is just where we are at right now at this chapter. Can’t wait to have our own home and keep it clutter free and functional. Thank you for your tips as always
Lisa this video was so insightful. I listened to you while I got some housework done and I kept saying to myself, "YES!!"...especially when it came to perfection being a form of procrastination. I agree, that there are certainly seasons in life for different things, and clutter certainly clutters the brain. I'm so impressed by your beautiful onions you braided in a recent video, and by your gorgeous potatoes! while I'm an avid & experienced gardener, I have yet to be successful in growing big onions, or big potatoes! i keep trying though!~ Will you be growing garlic this fall? I love your videos. While I don't have much time to watch others vids as I work, have a family, and run my own UA-cam channel, I always make time to get to your video each week, even if its just listening while I work or weed my garden. Thank you, and take care! -Steph 🌱
hey girl- love the video!😁 Great inspiration Lisa- thank you for sharing with us😍always enjoy seeing the kiddos- oh so cute😊 yummy food to. Y'all have a blessed weekend🥰
Lisa 🩷what a GREAT Video!!!! Definitely one of my favorites of yours and I will be rewatching over and over. Honestly I have too much stuff in my house Lisa so I thank you for the encouragement to start letting go of things. God bless your family 🩷🩷🩷🙏 and yes to letting go of perfection because I am definitely a perfectionist!
Beautiful video Lisa and such important advice/things I want to think on!🙌 Also I love your approach on baby sleep training/being in no rush for it....and I'm happy for you that it's now a success!( I struggle in that area of transitioning my babies too because have such a bond with them when they're born and I've enjoyed co-sleeping/bedside sleeping). But man yes I can relate on the freedom when they are finally in their own room too!
Simplify hair and clothes: homeschooling and homesteading is easier when you dont have to pick out clothes or spend time on hair care. I wash my hair 1-2 times a week, and almost always put it up in an unbrushed bun, with a headband. It's tidy and presentable. I wear the same full denim skirt around the house for a week or two before washing it. I change into nicer "town" clothes and brush my hair if I'm leaving the house. I generally only leave the house once a week. The preplanned "work" clothes make it very easy to get up at 5 am to milk goats. I quickly trade pajama pants for a skirt with whatever t shirt I splept in. Throw on a jacket or apron and I look put together when a neighbor stops by. Simple, non perfectionist routines keep things going even when unexpected things happen.
I went capsule wardrobe and have never looked back. I have clothes that I feel good in and don’t have to spend time thinking about what I’m going to wear that day. It all works together!
Just great and so inspiring and working out great how you manage such a large family plus the homestead and the animals !! I subscribe to everything you say, e.g. don't be perfectionist. 80 % is good enough.... love your content. Greetings from Berlin
I totally understand why your kids aren’t often super visible in your videos; I listen to your podcast 😂 but it was nice in this video to be able to see more how your home actually moves throughout the day. Expecting my first baby in January and leaving work to stay at home in November 💙
❤ While watching I thought of my grandmother who had 8 children, how she managed and how lovely her home must have been. 😊 She had 6 boys, 2 girls and currently they’ve all passed on to Heaven. But the traditions and recipes they taught me live on in my own family - hopefully passing down to my daughters. Thank you for sharing with us!
Lisa, THANK YOU. this video is jam packed with useful information. I love the way you think. Your content has made my life better in several areas.😊😊😊❤❤❤
Lightbulb 💡 moment 🤩 you just out in to words all my struggles and said all the things I think would make life easier but I doubt myself as I think it’s just me who can’t cope!
I love all your videos so much. You are so relaxing to watch. The only comment I really have is that you should raise up your kitchen curtains so the bottom of the curtain sits on the sill. The way they hang over looks weird.
@@FarmhouseonBoone haha totally. Just watched your newest video. They look sooooo much better. My daughter and I watch your videos together. You’re the best ❤️
Your sink keeps making me wish we would hurry up and remodel our kitchen. My Aunt and Uncle gave me a vintage sink like yours but it has the dish dryer on both sides of it. It's massive and beautiful. We do so much canning and I also wash all our dishes. This sink will be a lifesaver. Great video. I've learned to definitely say no and to prioritize things i love doing and as far as cleaning, yeah I hate it. I do it so my family doesn't have to live in a pig stye, but it's not anything i do everyday all day. 😂😂😂

Right? She seems so strong with great balance.
I agree.

Your home is so lovely! What amazing mom you are
Good morning Lisa! Love your beautiful home! God bless your family! 😀❤️🙏🏻
Thank you so much!
So glad I watched this video! Gave me such inspiration to write things down and talk with my husband about this ❤️🙏🏽
I'm so glad!
Great video, a lot of useful ideas. I especially like what you said: perfection is a form of procrastination.
Oh my! I can’t believe how big Victor has gotten! He’s such an adorable cherub with his blonde curls ❤️😊
You hit the nail on the head Lisa! Thanks!
Great tips, I was listening to this while procrasti-mowing. Gave me lots of food for thought.
The simpler, the better. Great looking food!!!
I'm the same way about googling things!! moreso than social media. I've had to limit it too.
I’m always looking for more ways to simplify. I find so much peace in that. ❤
I totally relate to that urge to google everytime a question pops in my head 🙈
Same!!
I thought it was just me! 😂
Yep I so do this too!
Wow. Seriously cleaning while wearing my workout clothes. Lol. Great thoughts!
-Steph 🌱
Thank you so much!!
hey girl- love the video!😁 Great inspiration Lisa- thank you for sharing with us😍always enjoy seeing the kiddos- oh so cute😊 yummy food to.
Thank you so much!!
Love your wisdom Lisa ❤
Beautiful video Lisa and such important advice/things I want to think on!🙌 Also I love your approach on baby sleep training/being in no rush for it....and I'm happy for you that it's now a success!( I struggle in that area of transitioning my babies too because have such a bond with them when they're born and I've enjoyed co-sleeping/bedside sleeping). But man yes I can relate on the freedom when they are finally in their own room too!
You are very wise, and practical, and it is a joy to view your videos.❤
Thank you so much!
What a gorgeous house! Lovely inside and out.
Thank you so much!
Welldone. You're You're very strong
I needed this!! Thank you!

Also, wanted to tell you I love your channel and look forward to each new video!❤
Thank you so much!!
loved this!!! thank you for sharing
Happy Friday! ❤️
Thank you 😊
Thank you Lisa!!🙏💝
I totally understand why your kids aren’t often super visible in your videos; I listen to your podcast 😂 but it was nice in this video to be able to see more how your home actually moves throughout the day. Expecting my first baby in January and leaving work to stay at home in November 💙
Congratulations!
How wonderful to hold their traditions, memories and recipes close!
What a lovely house and piece of property:) You can do so much with that property. The flowers add a nice touch to the rooms😀
Lisa, THANK YOU. this video is jam packed with useful information. I love the way you think. Your content has made my life better in several areas.😊😊😊❤❤❤
So glad!
These are valuable tips, Lisa. Thank you for sharing! ❤ xo
Lightbulb 💡 moment 🤩 you just out in to words all my struggles and said all the things I think would make life easier but I doubt myself as I think it’s just me who can’t cope!
Glad to hear you were encouraged!!
I love your flowers!
This was great! Thanks
I love all your videos so much. You are so relaxing to watch. The only comment I really have is that you should raise up your kitchen curtains so the bottom of the curtain sits on the sill. The way they hang over looks weird.
haha...a most controversial choice!
@@FarmhouseonBoone haha totally. Just watched your newest video. They look sooooo much better. My daughter and I watch your videos together. You’re the best ❤️
We never had sports in our life either until my last grandson came along. He loves ice hockey so he went that way. The other 2 went with music.
Love all the videos. Totally agree with prioritizing things with the family.
You are not alone! I google things all day long 🤣
Such a helpful video!! Thanks for sharing. God Bless 😊
This video is such a fun change up, love it!
Great ideas...love your channel
