Hello thanks for a great video. I've been researching chest rigs to buy one. Then I dug into my stuff and found several of these Chi-Com rigs. Thanks to you I'm now going to attempt to modify them. 😃👍
With the molle installation. You can make a 3rd strap (a dummy one) and put it between the two you are going to sew in Then you can have few pins or the lock in pins to secure the two straps from movement (even like single stitch from either side, if you dont have those, works)
Great video and great instruction. I put foam in the bottom of all mine, used the back buckle but left the toggles on. I have one of these for my 10/22, and 2 for AR's.
if your wife or Gf has some old purses with shoulder pads OR old straps from duffle bags of laptop bags you can use the shoulder pads off of those to pad those shoulder straps to prevent them from cutting into your shoulders which WILL happen if you wear that thing for 3 or 4 days straight.......
@ExtremelyAverageMan I like your mods though and am definitely gonna bust out the sewing machine . I have a few different chi com rigs and you got me thinkin'
Have you considered sewing or shoegooing a big velcro loop patch to the belly side of the chest rig for attaching maybe a mag dump bag under, or maybe a tourniquet. Whatever you can think of. Also behind the mags you could sew a small admin pouch, throw a small rite in the rain and a pen in. The T Rex arms four flap chest rig has given me some ideas on placing a radio pouch on a chicom, on the inside near the left armpit area of the rig. Highly versatile kit.
All great ideas! I have considered the dump pouch and that would surely give it some more versatility. The issue I've run into with the radio on the side is that the antenna gets caught on rifle sling/armpit/arm and is pretty annoying. You could probably sew a tab for it on the shoulder strap though, as long as it doesn't interfere with your sling. I've checked out the T Rex rig and it's slick! I just don't want to cough up nearly $200 though.
Yup, Rit recommends a cup of salt with your 5 gallon mix of dye-helps it adhere to the fabric (just double check the directions on the back of the bottle)
@@ExtremelyAverageMan they work! Update. Just got my own rig! Super excited to use it. Gonna chop the grenade pouches eventually, and Shoe goo on pre-made molle panels because i believe glue + pre made panel will kick the crap out of any stitching I can possibly do. Then put on a 100rd saw pouch for admin and an alice 30rd mag pouch
@@ExtremelyAverageMan I have returned. Have gotten way more expensive gear, eg T3 Geronimo 2 PC + Crye avs belt for like 1/4 msrp(bless people leaving the military), but always find myself coming back to the classics. I use this chest rig combined with the alice pistol belt for additional storage. I never got around to chopping up the chicom but I still want to put the alice 30rd on and a radio pouch.
Chicom is sf level piece of kit don't diss it cuz it's commie and simple/cheap ...ars are also not supreme to aks ..ak load out with this rig and proper training can make ypu deadlier than most nerds in full battle rattle with their Daniel defense setups
Fr. I was about to pick up a nicer chest rig until I remembered the Chicom, and thought about modding it at 2am. It's an amazing piece of kit and does what it was made for very well.
@@perpetualconfusion5885 It's very underrated, and let's be honest, most of us aren't "operators". It's the perfect rig for the every-day person just wanting to become more proficient at the range. And for $25, you really can't beat it.
This definitely helped me out when modding my chicom rig for airsoft. Great video
This video is a hidden gem. Thanks much!
No problem, thank you!

If you don’t have a $250 chest rig you’re gonna die
*laughs in talking trees

Screw Crye precision and spiritus. I'm buying a chicom rig, I'm gonna mod it out, and I'm gonna call it a day!
That's the spirit! 😁

I'm a strong independent man, I have my own purses and handbags thank you
Based...?
Nice job. Feel better dude
Those back straps dangling bug me, tri-glides would help with that and help with back adjustments.
So if you have a vz58 the grenade pouches can hold strippers . Since the VZ will take both
@@NCrdwlf good to know thanks!

I would suggest using a skinnier needle. Itll be much easier to push through the fabric.
Looks great brother
Excellent work
Nice job , great 👏 video.
The thread removal tool is a seam ripper. So you know what to ask your wife for... :)
😁

@@ExtremelyAverageMan bungee cord the antenna to the shoulder strap?
what did you add to it after the dye? was it a cup of salt ?i couldn’t quite make out what you said

Great vid 🤘
Im gotta do it.
Those "grenade" pouches are for oiler bottles
Are the buckles 1 inch or 1.5 inch buckles?
3/4"
