They are pretty unique I do admit By the way, Dan it was really awesome seeing you on Saturday. Thanks for your time there. It was fun to catch up with you and what not also, by the way, today is my birthday again thanks for your time at the Dallas, G.I., Joe, and action figure show. I can’t wait to see you again next year at power con!
I still have my originals (need to figure out how to get the scuffs off them). I like these, but I don’t like them enough. I’m not a fan of the hollow legs or the fact that they use different plastics between the head (matte finish) and the limbs (glossy finish).
I think these Mandela affected me... I had some of the vintage giants as a kid. I just got these ones for my kids, and I swore they were closer or the same as the originals. Wow. Nostalgia is a powerful drug. Can't believe how different they are when compared.
It's good that playmates are bringing out the giant reissues, but compared to the vintage ones, they don't reach half the quality, before they made toys very well, now they lower costs, regards 👏🏻🇦🇷
I'm glad you did the weapon comparison because I thought they MIGHT be identical to the old ones, and I thought about getting one just so my vintage giant Leo would have two swords, but I think the loose grip would bug me too much. These are cool but the reuse of the heads, the overly shiny plastic, and smaller scale don't do it for me.
Honestly i love these ones, i mean i have the og raph and mikey, but i got the new leo and donnie ( coincidental, maybe) and i like these more because they remind me of the prototypes that were pictured for most of the promotional stuff along with a photo with eastman amd laird
@@Pixel-dan To differentiate them from the vintage 1989. Otherwise, sellers will attempt to sell them as mint vintage figures. Similar to how when reproduction video games are clearly marked with repro so they don’t get sold as originals.
I gotta say I'm loving all these reissues. As someone who loves collecting the vintage line but didn't grow up at the time, it's so awsome to me that the other day I was able to randomly find Rocksteady and Leatherhead in a store.
As a kid, TMNT came along right around the time I started outgrowing toys. My big thing of course was MotU, had almost everything and sold my entire collection (which I now regret) for a Super NES in high school. My wife however (who’s five years younger than me) was a huge TMNT fan and used to have some of the vintage toys. Not sure if she had any of the giants, but we do have the recent reissues of Michaelangelo and Pizza Tossin’ Mike (Mikey is her favorite while Raph is mine). Our 3-year-old son has been playing with Pizza Tossin’ Mike, which he just got for his birthday. I mean, his middle name is Michael after all (yes, named after her favorite turtle). I’ve been collecting Origins to try and get my son into MotU, but TMNT is something I also want to get him into (the best of both of his parents’ worlds). Unfortunately, there’s just so much out there and I haven’t really had the energy to go completely down the TMNT rabbit hole like I have with MotU. Hopefully, there will be some kind of TMNT reference book to check out in the near future like there was with your MotU book! 😉
Yea I agree the packaging is misleading, like my dad saw the hasbro black series packaging were it sed Kenner and he freaked out I had to explain it’s not the Kenner. I think companies need to make it more clear.
I absolutely adored my giant Leo back in the day. One of the best Christmas gifts I ever got. I probably would have bought this update if it were a true recreation of that figure, but it's fine. I like seeing this stuff out there, even if it's not for me. I do wonder if Playmates releasing these messed up NECA's own quarter scale line. They still owe us Michaelangelo, but he hasn't even gone up for preorder yet.
@@Pixel-dan yeah. They’ve released Raph, Don, and Leo so far. Just curious if there may be a Party Wagon-like situation where a Playmates release that’s similar to a NECA or Super7 offering is delaying the release of the NECA product.

I had no idea that these were out and was all in with getting them until you got to the head sculpts. I totally get reuse of sculpts, but when you do 4 of the exact same thing with just different colors... I'm out! These just come off as an easy cash grab for Playmates and no sir, I'm not for that when they don't care enough to make it special for the consumer. Thanks for the review and the heads up (no pun intended) on these figures! 😎👍
I’ve been on the fence with these honestly. But I don’t really have a frame of reference for the originals, because I never had an interest in the big figures as a kid. But after seeing them in stores and now watching this comparison, I think I might pick them up. Thanks for the video 🙌

Amazing! Since they're re-releasing the original figures again from 30 years ago, it makes me wonder should I keep them in the box for the box artwork while I have the original figures open. The only difference is the new year printed on it and the Nickelodeon logo. I wonder if they'll remake the Giant Movie Star Turtles again looking alittle different too.
I never had the large ones as a kid but collected all 4 turtles and the two bad guys over the past few years. I had to make a few of their belts and 3D print their weapons. I'm happy to see them back in stores but I don't like how they all have the same head sculp.
"Giant" figures look cool, but do you remember the 48" Colossal Ninja Turtles from Jaxx? 5 points of articulation and storage inside the shells. I did not pick one up, but nearly did when I saw them clearanced out at Goodwill.
I never had any vintage TMNT figures. I think the first Turtles I had were the original 2012 series, which I loved. I only have the Mega Construx figures now, but I'm always interested in getting bigger figures. I've considered the Ultimates! a few times, but I don't think they're for me. I saw the Storage Shell reissues not that long ago, and was surprised at how chunky they looked. They made the "Last Ronin", and now the "Mutant Mayhem" toys, but everything else has been reissues. I really want new figures.
It took me 4 Walmarts and 2 Targets to be able to find all 4 and I'm loving them and can't wait to find the Mutating reissus Playmates please keep them coming

The reissues are great for anyone just starting out collecting the vintage line but less great for anyone who has invested a lot of money in any vintage figs who's values will have since plummeted. I can see this would be a real sore point with vintage collectors if they reissued a Scratch the Cat, or Hot Spot in the same way as if Hasbro did a retro of Blue Snaggletooth for Star Wars. I am all for it providing they make it easily identifiable as a reissue on all parts.
For the most part I’m enjoying the reissues. I lost all of my childhood collections in a 2018 wild fire so this is an affordable way to reclaim some of that. Minor gripes on some lost deco hits and mutagen man missing his yellow accessories (I imagine he’s more expensive to make due to his construction so those got cost out?). I hope they put out some holy grail reissues of enemies and allies and do less of the gimmick/occupational themed turtles.
Id put (reissue) Mutagen Man not including his accessories down to a reissue protection measure as these assesories are always missing on the vintage making him a more expensive figure. Maybe i am wrong here.
Never had them, always I wanted them. So I thought it was good opportunity to get the re issues one. Unfortunately I paid the scalper price but in the end it was worth it for me.

An easy pass huh?
@@Pixel-dan yes. I absolutely love TMNT but they don't limit their license and there are just so many TMNT toys. Just collecting the animated NECA is expensive. I also collect the movie Neca and super 7 tmnt. I just can't buy everything and displaying even half of everything is becoming a bigger and bigger problem. So sadly, playmates remakes of things I actually already have is an easy pass.
I've had to do the same thing with both GI Joe and He-Man as well. I don't understand why these companies bring out so many lines at once. So as much as I love He-Man, I only collect origins. And as much as I love GI. Joe, I only collect classified.
Side note, I laughed a bit because coincidentally enough, the only giant figure I have displayed is Raphael, the one you don't have.
@@archmage7813 Oh man!
