    My goal is to own one of these Squiers and its wonderful to see a review where someone actually plays music during the review. Instead of the tortured screams from subject guitars so dreadfully abused by the buzz and screach "musicians" that encourage us to not bother with whatever it is they seem to be ruining for our listening displeasure. And I trust your comments/evaluations as well.

      Yes i agree, some reviewer/guitarist only a show off with nonsense guitar distortion..i prefer Harrison/Clapton/Pete Ham style of playing lead guitar riffs..

    Always nice to listen to john play and demonstrate these guitars and always with music that you can recognise and a volume level that’s great on the ear . Squire50 telecaster are good for what you pay for them !! .

    Fun Fact: The first Telecaster was used on the original recording of 'Cry, Cry, Cry' by Johnny Cash.

    You can do a simple 'mod' by sanding back of the neck with 600 (or 300 ?) sandpaper, it doesn't destroy finish really, it just adds a 'satin'. That really helps with playing, after some playing it will become glossy again, so no worries. It is proven, you can look it up.

    I have changed harness in mine including pickup wires. Oak 3 way switch, CTC pots, paper in oil caps, switch craft output jack. I have used cloth isolation vintage wires. Guitar sounds way better. Also changed the pick guard to white and took off 9’s and restring with 10’s. Great guitar for the money. Negatives. Heavy. Neck has thick lacquer on it. Can get sticky. Yes white pick guard is sacrilege but it reminds me on tele from one movie 😀

    I once had a JHS Vintage JD Tele (Jerry Donahue). The fret ends were so appallingly finished that the first time I did that running of my hand down the neck I ended up with blood! Much as I loved the sound of a Tele in the hands of players like Burton, Buchanan and Gatton, I always found it a very uncomfortable instrument to play when sitting. That's where the Strat wins in the comfort stakes even though it never had the raw sound of a cranked Tele.
    Interesting demo of this 'Vibe' Tele John. Thanks.

    • @JohnCouplandguitar

      I agree, the Strat has to be the most comfortable guitar when seated. I liked the sparkle of the pick ups on this (My son's) Tele.

    This is a lovely guitar. I have one also. Better than many Fenders, IMO.
    Not too crazy about the neck pickup, but I rarely use it, so I haven't bothered switching it out.

    Very nice review. I first saw your Epiphone Les Paul Studio review a year or two ago but didn't realise you'd done so many. Your style of review is very helpful especially to novices like me. I like to hear them clean, one pick up at a time and not just with tons of distortion. I'm looking for a Tele, perhaps one with a brighter tone than this one, for not too much money. I've subscribed to your channel.

    One of my two main guitars is a Tele. I've always loved them, and prefer the shape and sound to that of a Strat - I don't get on with all that contouring going on with Strats, I need to feel a decent slab under my elbow and ribs.
    If this was truly a 50's style Tele the three position switch would be like a Gretsch tone switch, with two positions for rolled off treble, and one position straight through, and where the tone control is there'd be a bleed control, running from neck through to bridge pickup, and any mix of both in between. But, I suppose that's why they call it a 'Vibe' rather than a replica...
    Sounds great anyway, and another good review!

    • @mrjah603
      @mrjah603 6 років тому

      That's not exactly how the original Tele circuit worked. The forward position gave you the neck pickup with all treble rolled off, the middle position was the neck pickup with normal tone control and the back position was the bridge position with normal tone control. No option to run both pickups at once.

    • @JohnCouplandguitar
      @JohnCouplandguitar  6 років тому +1

      I was using an Epiphone Les Paul Studio played clean with a lot of reverb. You can hear me using the pick up selector's 3 positions to vary the sound at different sections of the songs. No reason why a Tele should not be able to do the same thing although it will sound a bit thinner which may not be a bad thing.

    • @juliabaldassarre6874
      @juliabaldassarre6874 6 років тому

      i bought gfs vintage pick ups for my tele.. i want all those vintage sounds especial surf and indie, some time all i hear is classic rock from my tele. But today the reverb pedal does the sound now it has that surf tone. thanks

    It's 520 USD(or 400 pounds) in my country but I'm planning to just get it at $400(310 pounds)online at Sweetwater and just pay for the international shipping charges and get it for cheap. It has extremly positive reviews also. However, there's a "Plekked" version of that guitar too which is available also at Sweetwater for $658. That has a really good rating too and some love it a lot, but I am not sure if it is really worth the extra 258 dollars.Can anyone help me with this, and whether I should get the "plekked" one or not? I'm in a dilemma especially since I'm on a budget.

    • @TNTales
      @TNTales 7 років тому

      I don't think it would be worth that much more. The CVs are pretty good as is. I mean running through a machine will get you some benefits but not 260$ worth imo. Just do a good setup on it and if it's not to your liking return it Also if it ships from the USA you may have to account for temperature and humidity changes anyway. It's a personal decision but for a price that probably reaches that of a second guitar I don't think it's justified.

    • @joeyjordison6394
      @joeyjordison6394 7 років тому

      I don't think I can honestly return it. That is because SweetWater DOES NOT ship internationally everywhere and it does not ship to my country. How I intend to get it is through a site called "ViaBox" which gives you a US adress to order with and then ViaBox gets the item from the adress then ships to where you want it too. It obviously takes shipping charges but it is not that much. So I don't think I can return it if I get it from Sweetwater. That is a bummer.
      Anyways, thank you a lot for helping.

    • @TNTales
      @TNTales 7 років тому

      I suggest you maybe talk to guitar techs in your area and see how much a fret dress or plek would be.

    • @joeyjordison6394
      @joeyjordison6394 7 років тому

      Is there anything that might go wrong in the international shipping?If I get a bad guitar, I won't be able to return it.So what should I do ??

    • @TNTales
      @TNTales 7 років тому

      I can't really say as I live in the US. Make sure there's someone who can check your package before it's mailed off to you. I've not shipped guitars overseas but I know it can be a concern. Like wood expanding or drawing up. I'd google international guitar shipping caveats or something like that. And the problem with using a secondary shipper is that like you said, if you get a lemon or it breaks then you're screwed. Maybe what you should do is saving that Plek money and buying the guitar in your own country. You'll pay a little more but you'll be safer. Just my thoughts.
