      Hi, Oskar.
I thin that I've heated that you can buy the missing handlebar pieces from Karl Road or something like that.
Please continue your grad work. All the "new puzzles showofs" are really interesting.

I guess the corners and edges are connected by handlebars inside of the cube at the end of the pieces. With the middle bar being lower to allow the special move

the cubies that are "connected" by the handle bars are physically one piece in the mechanism. I learned that from the Oskar slice 7x7

  • @YurNick

It's definitely not a magnet connection (we don't have 3 different non-interfering magnetic forces, plus magnetic force in such case cannot be strong enough to hold pieces together at any occasion and weak enough to not lock the whole cube rotation).
It's not a straight internal link inside a cube since it would break rotation of middle layer (in generic Rubik's cube centers of each plane are mechanically connected to a center of a cube, so any mechanical connection of opposite corners or edges would bump into existing Rubik's mechanical connection.
It can be some gearing mechanism.
In Oskar's Magic there's an example of connection making possible coexisting of straight horizontal linkage with vertical linkage. Though the whole mechanism of such type would be extremely complex and couldn't be implemented inside a normal Rubik's cube size.
So I suspect that there's a gearing mechanism in a center of this cube similar to Variomatic Cube's and 3 connected pairs are connected to it (other parts work as usual Rubik's cube). Though I couldn't think of something simple enough to understand how can it be made inside a regular sized Rubik's cube.

How would I get some of your cubes. I have a brain injury and the doctor told me that Rubix and other cube type puzzles would help improve my motor skills . And the Rubix three by three he gave me does help. I bought a 13x13x13 and it is really helping with motor skills and also helping with my problem solving frustration levels, and also helping me with anger issues I have from the brain injury because of frustration.

From design in brain, then on paper, then on paper, then some prototype and finally make it work. He is not running a factory so make it cheap and sell a lot woundn't work. He can't make 10 cubes a day. Also you can charge anything for your project right? Think about iPhone they are really "fucking expensive". However people don't care.

Well, simply put, my theory on the cubes construction is that to build this cube would require you to get some kryptonite, which requires Superman to fly it from Krypton in his special suit, so, you know, "..plus shipping and handling". It also requires a trip through the vector of the Romulan nebulae which suffers the wrath of the impenetrable quickening, during the last hour of hyper sleep, in order to obtain wraths and moltons for that "special move". So, you know, "The Backstreet Boys". Then you have yourselves one dumbass aheadrotron (If you're not an Aqua Teen fan skip this stupid answer and move on to someone that is not completely clueless and/or a moron, Hand Banana. Or else...
