This is great! Apparently less than 20% of Americans have frozen their credit to prevent identity theft. I'm so sick of privacy-tubers talking about GrapheneOS and faraday cages (they probably have the privilege of not having to talk to normal people).
@@techlore Yep. It's really scary how often people have their data hacked or their information posted on the dark web. Credit freezing is literally the safest, most secure and easiest thing one can do to protect themselves financially.
Lots of excellent tips. It's essential these days as even if you are doing everythng RIGHT, people must realize that the servers and business that have your info doesn't, and you WILL be hacked that way.
I really like your comment at the end about just needing to do better than the average person. It is more efficient for criminals to go after easier targets so you will probably be just fine if you are a harder target The only time this isn't the case is if you are a particularly important target like a politician, celebrity, or wealthy. It is kinda like a joke that if you are trying to outrun a bear you don't actually have to be faster than the bear. You just need to be faster than everyone else with you. This will be true unless you just happen to be running away with a bag full of roasts strapped to your back. For the average person you just need to be better than the average person. And if you are a particularly juicy target then yeah you need to be ready to outrun the bear.
Question on using email aliases. I recently switched to proton pass and love the feature, but when it comes to really important accounts (banking and things like that) should I still use the alias or is it better to just use my real one? Just a little worried if somehow, something happens to the alias, I wouldn't have an easy way to gain access back to the account. Maybe overthinking it though
@MidgardEchoes I would still use a different main email (and phone number) exclusively for banking stuff. Even with no breaches they still share your financial info with 3rd party financial/analytics companies. Friends should never have your main email, as they're the easiest target to social engineer/breach and probably share by default all your contact info with Facebook, Google, Temu etc. Your banking data should be completely isolated and untouched from your daily use stuff. It takes you like 10 minutes to make another main email.
Personally I use SimpleLogin aliases for all my financial accounts. If you want to have more control over aliases, the main option would be to get a custom domain. But it's not something I worry about.
I personally use an email alias for all services that allow it. The only time I ever hand out my real email is to friends or family. I have a separate proton alias dedicated to job searching too since having some random simplelogin alias doesn’t look very good on a Resume lol
Experian has this scammy thing going on where they advertise a credit lock (their own weird feature) as something separate from a credit freeze. A Credit Freeze will *always* be free!! Do not pay a cent for it. At least this is the case for the US.
People need to create a pseudonym or anagramize their surname. Find an avatar online and use that as their default photo and create any social network accounts using a pseudonym. NEVER their real name. NEVER post pictures of the inside or around their house, and never boast about what they have and where they are located. They should also obscure their face and surroundings and disguise their voice if they're making online content. What people don't realize is AI is trained on recognizing people's faces, voices, eyes, and it is going into a data base for facial recognition. So you, for example, can be run through a facial recognition, and they have your name, address, and all the other personal information about you. And it all gets added to a database.
Good tips for sure. It is time for a new “become anonymous guide” or at least a new guide for hardening each OS. Those guides are great, but are getting pretty outdated IMO.
1:45 The subtitle note LOL. Never does it occur to you that outside of the US people are not addicted to credit to buy things that they cannot afford....
Ive used many password managers over the years. I've used bitwarden, dashlane, etc - hated them. Tw6 questions : do you have a specific issue with Nord Pass? and given a user new to privacy, why not chrome password Manager?
Use a browser to store passwords 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Can't generate secure passwords🙄 Nord Pass still has bugs: doesn't always autofill & when you enter something on a website is defaults to thinking it is a password update & a pop-up wants to save it as a security change.
chrome is known to share and sell your data and i dont trust google, it's better to have an open source password manager like proton pass and bitwarden. Nord pass i think its good but it is closed source and i like something that i can trust 100%
A browser's password manager is better than nothing, but managers like Bitwarden are best b/c you hold the encryption key. As long as you have a strong master password, your vault is safe. Chrome can't say the same.
@@cv7245 >Why not a browser pssword manager? If that is true, that is an insane figure. Freezing your credit is the most important thing one can do to literally protect their economic future.
It definitely deserves more attention 💯 so simple, so important, so neglected

My bank ( in Australia) still uses sms 2fa codes, there is no option for an otp app or hardware authenticator key.
Can you do advance tips?
Will signal still be beneficial if your contacts don't use these services?
