I have a quaker named cricket he is almost 24 years old and reaching the end of his life. Had him since he was a baby. Loud is an understatement, they are also very attached and demanding but when he passes. I know the silence will be even more deafening. Love him loud and all. Thanks
Yes, my birds (2 budgies & 1 green cheek) can be loud. The budgies are chatty much of the day, but I think their singing is pleasant. The green cheek can get very squawky and very loud sometimes (liken to a dog barking), but personally, I find green cheek squawking more tolerable than a dog barking.
I have 2 of the ones you mentioned. I have 2 Sun Conures that have made my ears ring when sitting on my shoulder. I also have a Nanday. I always felt he was way louder than the Suns.

I feel like the lone ranger because most people with sun conures always say how loud they are and mine is quiet. Yes, she may have a couple of moments here and there where she squawks but it lasts a minute at most. Loudness can really just refer to the volume of the sounds a parrot can make. When it comes to the overall noisiness of a parrot, I think it can be broken down into two factors: volume (loudness) and duration (how often or how much of the day they vocalize) I grew up with Budgerigars, and while their sounds were lower in volume compared to my Quaker and Sun, the duration was more continuous throughout the day. 95% of the day consisted of their constant chatter LOL! My sun conure may squawk at a higher volume, but the duration is not continuous at all.
I really enjoyed this video and your examples on how loud each parrot is compared to everyday noises we hear. Squirts alarm call was loud but I can't imagine the Alarm call of the jenday conure oh boy oh boy. I do love the noisy flock , they remind me of my childhood and my neighbors and their very large parrot flock, and of course my little Squirt birds antics.
Hello sophie,i’ve just been recently given my grandfathers bird as he recently passed away. The bird is a senior cockatiel and has always what i would call hissing but it’s aggressive just letting know he’d like space(obviously respectful). I would like to get him used to being handled but i’m afraid as he’s a senior bird that might not be possible..any tips?
I have two budgies and one day my sister was talking to me on the phone, when she stopped and exclaimed "boy, they're loud!" 🧨 She doesn't know what loud is.🎉
Hi everyone! I got two cockatiels about 4 days ago, and I'm having trouble getting them to interact with their toys. They seem to prefer staying on the highest perch and don't come down to play. The design of their cage makes it difficult to place toys where they hang out most. Any suggestions on how I can encourage them to explore and play with their toys more? I want to make sure they're happy and stimulated in their environment. They also seem to be very scared, I can't walk past the cage without them trying to move away from me. They dont accept the food I give them from my hand, and they seem not to drink the water in their bowls (They do eat the seeds from this seed stick tought). Im really concerned since it's really bad not to drink water for a few days. The birds also fight with each other. Thanks in advance for any advice!

We have two green cheek conures and their contact call can be heard all around the house and from the garden😂. You get used to it and it's even worrying when you get home and don't hear them calling instantly
Our Pionus is much louder than our green cheek. The difference in the two is our Conure is chatty all day and our Pionus only at bedtime. We did spend time at the sanctuary we got them from with 25 parrots of various species so we did know the noise level. I get alarmed when it is quiet!
My lovebirds are not the loudest birds out there but they can do some damage when they scream near your ear. I tried wearing earplugs but they decided to treat them as toys and try to remove them😅

We got a small poicephalus (ruppells) parrot partially because they are thought to be on the quieter side. And she absolutely is! The sounds she does make are adorable grumbles and r2d2 beeps. Oh and kisses. She makes kissy noises every time I come near. She rarely squawks, and only does so when the dogs are barking because someone is coming home, and then the dogs are a good bit louder than she is.

At my local pet store where I got Sunny, one of the employees brings his cockatiel to work nearly every day and one day recently while I was there, he plopped him on me and went to do some other things lol. It was all great and I loved giving him scritches, but then he started to sing and, much like you mentioned about the macaw's scream ringing in your entire head, I felt like I went cross eyed it was so loud. Jet engine decibels depend on the specific plane type and how far away you are, not to mention the average human has never stood near an airplane taking off, let alone without ear protection, since that can rupture the ear drums. It's just not a good example. Imagine if when flight pilots are trained, they are told that jet engines are as loud as a cockatoo... not only is it wrong, it's useless information, most have never heard a cockatoo. And let's not forget decibels are a ratio, it's not a linear measurement, so the higher you go, the greater the difference between each number. That's why 120 decibels is not twice as loud as 70 decibels, it is 32 times louder. A boeing plane has a noise level of about 150 decibels from 25 meters away or 130 decibels from 100 meters away. I would assume 135 decibels is from standing right next to a screaming cockatoo. While definitely loud, 150 decibels is waaay louder. Of course this is not some personal attack, I'm just venting the frustration of "loud as a jet engine" being thrown around without a clear understanding. Great video.
You do understand figures of speech right? Like not everything has to be so literal? If I say my bird screamed like a banshee do I really mean an actual banshee or just that they were loud? Not everything has to be so literal.
