19:52 I have a hard time getting my driver's license renewed because someone in Pennsylvania has the same surname and date of birth that I do. I've never been arrested, but in 2015 it took me 37 days to get my license renewed. I had to send notarized copies of my birth certificate, social security card and driver's license to the responsible authorities in Pennsylvania, then re-send them because the stamp came off of the envelope. Pennsylvania was easier to convince that I was not the nuisance driver on their list than my own state was. They sent me a very nice letter that I now present every time that I renew my license. It explains that they have checked and I don't even have the same given name as their nuisance driver.
I used to be a cop and come across plenty of people with names the same as is in an active warrant. It’s not that hard to differentiate the two. I pulled over one guy whose brother had a warrant but it popped up on his name. He explained that his brother fled to Mexico. The guy I pulled over didn’t have the right description so I let him go. It’s not that hard Florida.
This is Florida after all... Qualified immunity is insane and shouldn't exist. Cops started shooting at their own car in Florida since they heard an acorn drop..
There was a guy in CA who got a vanity with his last name "Null". Well, all crimes where the license plates can't be recorded correctly are called Null in the database. He got a mailbox full of tickets and ended up with a hundred bench warrants against him.
I have the same name as my grandfather. I still get debt collection notices on his behalf even though he's been dead for six fucking years. Like, motherfucker was born in 1933! He's dead as dicks you're not getting his money!
It is extremely common for Florida police to arrest people because their name matches a warrant search. There is a case right now with a lady from another state who was arrested getting off a cruise ship on her way to the airport. She would have been in Florida only an hour or two. Cops know its not the real person from the warrant, they also know nothing happens to them if they play this on anyone who doesn't show enough respect.
You seem to know why they do this, but you failed to mention that reason in your comment. Can you elaborate on why they knowingly make wrongful arrests of innocent civilians, even if they know they will get away with it? Is it to bolster their personal quotas, the department's budget, or out of boredom? Just.... why?
Bro i feel the last story, i was detained in the back of a police car for over an hour for murder. After the cops did their job they realized it couldn't be me they were looking for a 55 year old man with my name and i was only 16
The Institute For Justice only works on cases like the David Sosa case, where there is something fundamentally wrong with the legal system, that allows somebody who is innocent to be wronged, and where the laws involved are set up in such a way that it's financially impossible to legally defend yourself... ie the cost of a lawyer is more than any financial gain you might get if you win the case. for example if you get a bill from the city for a $50 parking ticket when you've never parked in the city, it would cost you more than $50 to hire a lawyer to contest the ticket, so most people would just send the $50 and be done with it and the city gets away with a free $50. The Institute For Justice exists for situations just like that, they take public donations to pay for lawyers to fight for the principal of the situation so that financial roadblocks don't prevent these issues from reaching the supreme Court if necessary
There are way too many people in the USA in situations like this. Usually the vulnerable poorer demographic who can't make bail and end up awaiting trial in jail. Quite a few take a plea deal to simply get their freedom at the cost of a record. Just another example why the USA is broken on so many levels...
Thanks for letting me know. I may need to reach out to them regarding a slander and professional neglect case. Unpaid interns should be entitled to workers rights too.
Dearest Simon, A quick aside about the Hammock Dunes Community that will make your story more enjoyable! Hammock Dunes is a private luxury beach community that you have to pay $2 for every bridge crossing to get into. There is no other entrance. When you purchase a home or condo there you already know this. As such, this man, assuming he lives there can very well afford $2 per crossing and was being a miser when it comes to tolls and groceries.
That last one reminded me of something. A long, long time ago, James E Smith was in trouble for tax evasion and was sent a court summons for a specific date and time. So my dad shows up wondering wtf is going on because he's never cheated on his taxes, and about 1,000 other guys are there with the same thoughts... and the same name. Yeah, they sent the summons to every James E Smith in the area! There's a Jim Smith Society, btw. They wear city tags, not name tags 🤣
My step-dad got a summons for a hit and run where they had a picture of a car speeding off where you could see the license plate number, but NO OTHER FEATURES OF THE PLATE. They sent a summons to anyone who was living and ever had that license plate number ANYWHERE IN THE US. My step-dad HAD had that number... on a car that had been totaled about 2 decades earlier, was a completely different make, model, AND COLOR, and he had personally seen the plates get destroyed (he worked for the DMV at the time). Oh, and the state where the incident had occurred that the summons was in regards to was a state my step-dad had never been to. I still feel bad for the clerk who had to take down statements over the phone and process the submitted documentation to confirm each statement so he could cross off each state's person until they could narrow it down to the likely culprit. He even apologized and explained that all that state could see from other states when they searched license plates were the name and current contact info for whoever that number had been registered to. They had no way of knowing make, model, color, if the license plate number was still in use... it was a mess. Thank goodness the systems are not quite as lacking in interstate database info as they were then.

@ThatWriterKevin: if you want to do a video on Supreme Court cases in Florida, there’s one about drag as freedom of speech and at least one about mask enforcement during Covid being unconstitutional, one involving Matt Shirk (maybe you should do a video about Florida lawyers behaving badly?) and a recent one about legalizing pot. There’s probably more, but those are the only ones I can remember.
Here in New Zealand, it's "security guard", my husband is a qualified security guard (yes, it is a national qualification, and impersonating one is an offence) ❤
@cheekyb71 in the states, there are security guards (who typically guard the entire shopping center stores are in), and then Loss Prevention, who work directly for the store itself.
Ey, Vegeta, I know who edited this one, I reckon. Take a bow, Julian. Thank you, team Brain Blaze. Loved your script @ThatWriterKevin. Simon, great job as always. Thank you, I hope your holiday was enjoyable.
I was just hearing about a case of false arrest in Florida recently: a woman matching 2/3 names on a warrant, 23 years older than the suspect and they just arrest her anyway. Florida cops seem really lazy or incompetent.
Simon, The United States Supreme Court is very interesting right now. You should read what some of them have said about Innocence not being grounds for release, including recent death-row cases that have led to execusions. Multiple times, different Justices... still serving on this current bench! You could even get one of your many researchers create a script concerning the many ways these Justices have creatively determined the government hasn't done anything wrong. Immunity, alone, would be a gold mine!
I laughed audibly at Simon calling out Kevin for going off on a tangent and then weakly linking back to the topic at hand. I didn't sense much irony in Simon's tone, which amused me to death!
Florida man is the red-headed stepchild that no one wants to claim! No offense to my gingers, but we Americans are loath to acknowledge them as well. Keep up the amazing work and there should be a top 20 Florida man episode. So crack on Kevin and get it done!!!😁🌞
I had a similar inquiry come up when I was in college, apparently my ID got flagged for having a similar name as someone who fled arrest in NYC. Though pretty mundane since I found out when trying to renew my drivers license, so just had to talk to an officer in administration about it. The suspect was like forty years older than me and I had not been in NY at the time, so they were pretty sure immediately it was not me but still had to do some paperwork to unflag my license, making a DMV visit like 20 minutes longer.
I hoped that was where it was going when he started talking about amicus briefs. I thought perhaps the wanted Sosa wrote them a letter saying it wasn’t fair to the other dude, catch me if you can, etc

Hey Kevin, i got an interesting thing to bounce off that might be an interesting idea. Since David sosa case lost (before going up to the 11th) It reminded me of the guy in ohio who lost his case. He basically tore is asophagous eating a bone from some boneless wings. The Ohio court ruled against him stating "boneless is a cooking style and no reasonable person would believe there to be no bones" Considering this goes against the fda label for"boneless" we could totally make this a "Most nonesencicle court loses" idk, im not a titler... Just figured you'd find a way to segway that into a fun script
Simon has previously wondered why battered spouces don't leave. Think he might have an insight now, the fear of abduction is real, and it's more common than you'd expect. I'm impressed the police did anything.
Poor David Sosa. I live in North Carolina and my name is about as common as John Smith here. I have never been arrested, thankfully, but I have REPEATEDLY had to prove I was not a person who had broken the law. It is absolutely absurd how often authorities only look at the first and last name and no other identifying information when accusing someone, then tend to leave it up to the individual to prove the authorities wrong.
From the wild title to Simon covering Call Me Maybe this is most definitely gonna be a ride down the Florida backroads yeehaw. Also I think Simon should be governor of Florida, no one would ever get carbon monoxide poisoning again.
I’m a lawyer and had a case involving a guy who was the victim of identity theft. He kept being arrested for the thief’s crimes (mostly traffic). It was surprisingly difficult to prove his innocence but I was finally able to prove an alibi that he was at military training two states away at the time of the alleged crime. I also had a client who “collected” badges who was busted trying to enter a local jail to visit a female prisoner. I was able to convince the prosecutor that he was just a harmless nut and avoid ed a felony convictions with some minor community service. And I don’t even practice in Florida.
Hey first responders Dispatch here, it’s normally the dispatcher who runs warrants and checks for a ‘wants return’ from that county’s main branch not all but some stations like mine have a 2 department check depending on which county gets that hit. If I run a name dob and receive a hit I then run a QMAST check or criminal mastery to check for a State crime ID or a Federal ID then the second check does the same and we fax the want confirmation to the department doing the arrest. I apologize for the word dump.
A mistake is holding you for 3 hours, 3 days because it’s the weekend is just ridiculous. It’s also worth asking what is the extradition range on that warrant? Unless it’s for murder, or maybe hard R, usually it’s just bordering states, so even if it’s the right guy Texas likely wouldn’t come to get him anyway! Thankfully most cops aren’t that inept. There is someone in my county with the same name and her birthday is in the same month. And this gem of a Florida woman bounces in and out of jail and always seems to have active warrants! But they look at me and go yeah, you’re white, they’re black so definitely not the right person.
That woman being kidnapped story happened in the county I live, and while it’s gotten way more crowded so there’s slightly more crime, it’s still a very much FAFO county and the sheriff’s department does a great job. Shoutout to Sheriff Bob Johnson!

I am just glad someone was much better at identifying him at that time because they kinda knew him from him being around, because a few years later I dealt with a much more vio lent (spelling things weird bc my last comment got deleted) situation, and I was forced to call them again because others were in danger, and I was directing that danger towards me, and absorbing all of the violence, cuz I'm used to it.
They took me on a ride around the area to try to identify the people involved. I said a teen and a guy in his 40's, and they pointed at two teens and asked if that was them... I knew their profiling was bad, but I didn't realize how bad until that moment.
I've been in many situations where I should have called, but after that, I've never called again.
The kid screaming "two dollars" was the neighborhood paper boy trying to collect for the newspaper.
From the movie Better Off Dead
@@Kerbango-ez69 I want my 2 dollars
Oh God I had forgotten that reference, until you explained it... And then I had the whole clip in my mind rolling again
Let's not forget the cops in the last story are also florida men so asking them to use any amount of judgement when arresting someone who doesn't match the details of the warrant is expecting way too much from them.
LMAO! Breaking the law with crime boy... hahahaha... frikkin rolling on the floor mate!
lol right?! This is the comment I was looking for 😂
Thank you for making this video. ❤️ I needed this after making it through the hurricane this week. We need a healing laugh right about now.
The trip reference was because multiple supreme court justices have been taking undisclosed trips with wealthy individuals
Specifically Clarence Thomas has taken trips with Harlan Crow in particular.
If the Institute for Justice is involved in your case the local DA is concerned.
Kevin's just getting just as squirrelly as Simon now in the intro and I am HERE for ALL OF THIS!!!!
Look, introductions can be hard
Incidentally, “The Introduction” is also what Kevin calls his manhood.
1:35 - Mid roll ads
3:35 - Back to the video

Doing the real work. We appreciate you.
As always, thank you!

Simon: "What lives rent free in my head?!"
Simon literally every episode of BB, CC, and DTU: "I used to work at a news agents when I was a student..."
I'll keep it in mind! I definitely wasn't able to keep that trend going for the other episodes though
as much as i love watching Simon cover serious historical events or catatrophies, watching him be an absolute goober just puts a smile on my face
"Loss prevention" or "asset protection" usually are the titles for those kinds of employees
Here in New Zealand, it's "security guard", my husband is a qualified security guard (yes, it is a national qualification, and impersonating one is an offence) ❤
I work at Target & the security is called Asset Protection
@cheekyb71 in the states, there are security guards (who typically guard the entire shopping center stores are in), and then Loss Prevention, who work directly for the store itself.
Ey, Vegeta, I know who edited this one, I reckon. Take a bow, Julian. Thank you, team Brain Blaze. Loved your script @ThatWriterKevin. Simon, great job as always. Thank you, I hope your holiday was enjoyable.
I always love when DBZA jokes make it in!😂
Were those clips Teamfourstar? Pretty sure they were... Also, it's spelled Vegeta.
@@Rekuzan yup. It was definitely Vegeta yelling at Cell to k*ll Satan!😂
@@TheArgiShow I laughed at that too, my thoughts were how many people would think the opposite because of the lack of context.

the next florida man friday should be a florida man shenanigans during a hurricane edition
I was just hearing about a case of false arrest in Florida recently: a woman matching 2/3 names on a warrant, 23 years older than the suspect and they just arrest her anyway.
Florida cops seem really lazy or incompetent.
Billionaire and nazi memorabilia collector Harlan Crowe bought himself a supreme court judge clarence thomas
Was that the one with the winnebago? Here you go judge; a mobile home, just because I like you.
And for the money Crowe has, surprisingly cheap. I also feel that there is a deeper jab in your comment that my HR team has advised me not to mention.

Hilariously discussed this summer by John Oliver who offered Justice Thomas a bonkers motorhome
Simon,
The United States Supreme Court is very interesting right now.
"Call me maybe" slapped me straight back to 2012. Thanks Simon and Kevin!
You're welcome!
Simon: brings up Pedro Lopez every second episode of C.C.
Also Simon: I'll have to think about what lives rent free in my head...
Any time my like actually changes the number, i get super excited. These videos are always way up in the thousands by the time i find them
Kevin out tangented the master
I do my best
I laughed audibly at Simon calling out Kevin for going off on a tangent and then weakly linking back to the topic at hand. I didn't sense much irony in Simon's tone, which amused me to death!
This was the best redition of call me maybe ever!
Why?
Because I could not recognize it at all :D
😂😂😂
Florida Man Friday has become the highlight of my week 😂
Florida man is the red-headed stepchild that no one wants to claim! No offense to my gingers, but we Americans are loath to acknowledge them as well. Keep up the amazing work and there should be a top 20 Florida man episode. So crack on Kevin and get it done!!!😁🌞
I was a ginger stepchild. No offense taken 😂
I LOVE the Florida Man Friday videos!! 😊❤😂😂
Thanks!
Love it when Simon lets go. In a crazy way. It's why we watch the Blaze.
Two weeks. Ten papers!! TWO DOLLARS!!!
"Leave me alone! I'm an accountant!"
Writer: Kevin, Editor: Julian Legends! Whister boi is cool too.
Thanks!
you can tell when fact boi recorded the add by how long his beard is! lol
I am glad David sued the police for being such ass hats.
Things that live rent free in simons head!
1) Cocaine!
2) Canoes
Not to be a downer Simon, but you’ve demonstrated that Pedro Lopez lives rent free in your head numerous times.
Simon going on tangents in the ad read
The past is the worst. AM I RIGHT PETER!!
*script slap*
I'd like to imagine that one of the David Sosas that came to his aid was the one with the warrant.
LOL That'd be great.
I hoped that was where it was going when he started talking about amicus briefs. I thought perhaps the wanted Sosa wrote them a letter saying it wasn’t fair to the other dude, catch me if you can, etc
I loved Kevin’s reference to Harlan Crow. Good one kevster.
These are the highlights of my Friday workday, thank you for preserving my sanity 😂
You're welcome!
If every, Florida Man story involves crime I can't wait to see the Hall of Fame.
Fuck yeah Florida Man Fridays!
Fuck yeah indeed!
Nah... this is great ! Florida man here. Just survived another hurricane here in Tampa aboard my 30ft sailboat. I can handle it. Capt.Bob, SV ( Sailing Vessel ) 27th Chance, Tampa Fl, USA 🇺🇸
Glad you're safe! I know this was an especially bad one
I've been desperately needing some Brain Blaze to finish off the work week, especially after last week's stream where Simon apparently played a game but forgot to start broadcasting it to the channel
Leeroooyyy Jenkins!
Get back here
Simon chose not to go on a tangent anecdote... Why do I even watch this show?! What the hell, Whistler Boy?!
Florida man Friday's is my fav series you do
I died at "Breaking the law with Crime Boy"
The Better Off Dead reference. Kevin is spoiling us!
I do what I can
Hey Kevin, i got an interesting thing to bounce off that might be an interesting idea.
Since David sosa case lost (before going up to the 11th)
It reminded me of the guy in ohio who lost his case.
He basically tore is asophagous eating a bone from some boneless wings.
The Ohio court ruled against him stating "boneless is a cooking style and no reasonable person would believe there to be no bones"
Considering this goes against the fda label for"boneless" we could totally make this a "Most nonesencicle court loses" idk, im not a titler... Just figured you'd find a way to segway that into a fun script
Kevin, thank you for having Simon tell us jokes for which he has zero context. He's funny.
As a Florida woman, I love these. 😂
And we love you! I look forward to writing about your antics one of these episodes
as a colorado ma i find the florida man stuff hilarious.
Simon has previously wondered why battered spouces don't leave. Think he might have an insight now, the fear of abduction is real, and it's more common than you'd expect. I'm impressed the police did anything.
"Better off Dead" is where the two dollars ref came from
A reference to the crazy amount of "gifts" the supreme court gets and there is no oversight or repercussions for any of it.
Lovely work kevster
😫"LEEEEEERROOYYYY JAYNKINS!"⚔️ 😂🤣
This is one of my favorite series, love me some Florida man!
And Florida Man loves you! Possibly enough to kidnap you...twice...
Came here for the Simon. Liked it for the VLDL!
4:58 If you get a prepaid card, that particular toll bridge is only like 50¢ and you only have to pay going one direction 😂
The Game.
The Game lives rent-free in my head and has since I first played it in elementary school, and I'm 36.
And now I've lost the game. Darnit.
Hammock Dunes sounds like a resort next to Mordor
Simon! You should do an episode where you read the crime and have to guess the punishment/ sentence. Then reveal your score at the end!
11:00 🤣that made my day!
Starfishes love you guys!!! Keep FMF alive!!!
That's the plan!
@@ThatWriterKevin let's GOOOO baby!!!
The Better Off Dead reference earned my like.
Glad to have it!
Can firm that getting arrested on a Friday really blows.
My right ear drum is gone after Simon screamed into it repeatedly 🥴
I get the reference. Well played, Kevin.
Unsure which reference, but thanks!
That woman being kidnapped story happened in the county I live, and while it’s gotten way more crowded so there’s slightly more crime, it’s still a very much FAFO county and the sheriff’s department does a great job. Shoutout to Sheriff Bob Johnson!
4:50 I wonder if Leroy knows that it's a Jungle out there... with disorder and confusion everywhere.
Even if he doesn't seem to care, well; I do!
Love the "Better Off Dead" reference LOL!
That stupid bridge is $3 now 🤬
