Hi Scott, I can't thank you enough for this tutorial..straight to the point and I look forward to your future content...the Dwarf is such a capable and surprising little scope.
@@ScottCastrophotography , no. I feel more add-ons will make novel users to get lost. Maybe as a separate video an expert mode but I do not know I it will be successful as most users are dummies (of course myself included)
Scott, thanks! I think this will be a big help for beginners. One note you (and others) might find useful: for the script you used - the "...withoutDBF" script - there's no need to create the folders for darks, biases, or flats. This particular script will NOT look for those folders. Thanks again!
Great video! For the background extraction part, Siril has gotten a lot better at detecting stars and DSO so you can switch the interpolation method to polynomial (any degree works but I like using 1) and click 'generate' to let Siril automatically put all the little markers for extraction. Then remove any mistakes that Siril made and extract. Keep it up, clear skies!
@@atown4428 Sure thing! I've been using Siril since the original beta and it's gotten soooo much better. The only thing it's missing is multi-session processing but that's easy to do with Sirilic.
Hey, thanks for your workflow tutorial! I was thinking that my image of M101 via dwarf ii is poor but after following your workflow I can get a better result!
I'm relatively new to Astrophotography and recently got the Seestar S50. I tried a 10 minute exposure on M101 a few nights ago, and it came out so faint that I can barely even tell its a galaxy. I clearly need to do a much longer exposure. Although, I need to buy a chair so I can sit in the field I am filming from if I am gonna start doing longer exposures.
I have a question, why does the dwarf 2 stack the images itself, I feel as if the live stacking feature of dwarf 2 actually makes taking images take a lot longer than it needs to be, I always have to stack them again when using Siril anyway
Hi Scott. I am really surprised that no darks were used. When I stack from the dwarf it is very noisy (hot pixels, etc). Did you do something when capturing the images to lessen the noise? Or does the DBF Siril script you used handle some of the noise?
I believe the dbf helps to handle it as well. Also i use the astro darks function from the dwarf and that gets rid of some but it still has some hot pixels in it but stacking in siril helps out a lot. I also recommend using lower gain, because that can have a big effect on how much noise your photo has. Clear skies :)
And if you can please share this with others and subscribe I'm trying to get this channel started to make it bigger to share helpful things and beautiful photos with everyone. Thanks for your support☺️
@@ScottCastrophotography Thanks Scott. I grabbed the DBF script and it did do well with no darks. I usually process also in PixInsight and APP so will likely still grab some darks but very nice to know not necessarily required for Siril. Thank you!
I am new using Siril and am having a few problems with this tutorial. I was able to put the script files into my copy of Siril and placed a set of lights into the folder I created with other file folders (darks, bias, flats) and placed the folder labled Siril into the system picture follder. I selected the .home. button and selected the M51 folder I placed the set of lights in the lighs folder. I ran Siril and it gave me an error that it could not find the folder? I did something wrong...
Okay when you set the home directory, did you set the home directory as the lights folder or the M51 folder? Also, if you're only using lights make sure you use the WithoutDBF script, if you're using the darks, use the WithoutFlats script. And make sure that when you stack, your home directory is set as M51 and not as lights.
Hello Scott, I went through the tutorial but have an issue with the photometric calibration that plate solving could not be completed as to the image could not be aligned with the reference stars. Can you update the info for each tutorial video with your settings e.g. # of shots, gain, exposure. Thanks.
Yeah i'll do That on the next video. For your calibration did you point your lens to a part of the sky with no trees or buildings around before pressing the calibration button?
@@ScottCastrophotography Yes, I did then I selected GoTo for each target, one by one. Platesolving was successful for each target in my list. Is calibration necessary beforehand for each individual target?
@@Mark-McKenzie not before each target, but if you move your telescope at all or if it's the first time you take it out for the night it does need to be calibrated. Was your dwarf ii sharply focused?
@@ScottCastrophotographyI think the issue is resolved. The specific focal length and pixel size settings are key. This differs from what is listed on the Dwarflabs site. Many thanks!
I do not suppose you still have your files for this? I have had clouds for2 weeks now and will have clouds for another week. If I could use your files to practise It would be an ennormous help indeed.keep up the good work.
Hi Scott, Do you know how to download the new scripts onto an IOS device ( I have a MacBook Air). Ive got them downloaded into a file on my laptop, but can't find out how to load/integrate them into Siril. They seem to be greyed out, sorry very new to this, bit of a dummy
@@ScottCastrophotography No need to put yourself out Scott, just thought you might those will work you just have to do X. I'm sure I can stack the D2 images without the extra scripts.Thank you for the offer

Any suggestions for future videos?
