Great job as usual. I don’t really like using french cleats because if we lose gravity, the cabinet will separate from the cleat and float to the ceiling.
Hmm... I don't think it would. Yes, There's no force to hold it together, however, there's also no added force to separate the cleat. It would stay where it is relative to the cleat unless something pushed it apart, surely...
Awesome book that gives you step-by-step photos ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxTNB_zFBSnTo_O1PqfVUwgi7ityw0JlKt and directions to make every day project. I can see myself making a few of these projects and giving them as housewarming and holiday gifts!
GORGEOUS. And because she’ll be the one deciding who’s going to dust and remove soap, toothpaste and dust from each and every groove. I love it! The beautiful piece of furniture, that is!
I like the look as a whole, but I would'a definitely gone with cutting the drawer fronts either in the grooves or left a gap in the grooves to make the high parts wider where you wanted to split them. End result is fine, but when it gets that thin, the slight inaccuracies and grain shifts are really really noticeable.
fantastic mobile, technically perfect, and a remarkable video, I watched it from beginning to end without being able to turn it off, thank you for sharing this wonderful moment
This is actually a great proof of concept for anyone who wants to make something cool-looking but isn't necessarily feeling that artistic/creative spark. Pick something super simple (like in this case literally just a straight line), repeat it a BUNCH of times, and you'll wind up with a pattern that looks like it took heaps of skill, when in fact it really just took a heap of time and patience. If you approach it the right way it can also be an amazing form of meditation/flow, especially once you streamline your workflow and really get in the groove (heh). Kumiko is another perfect example - instead of creating 1x Art all at once, you can use a simple jig to make 2000x Little Bits of Wood one at a time, and then assemble them into something greater than the sum of its parts.
Absolutely awesome and exactly the look I'm after for my own built-in vanity. Only thing I'd change: have the horizontal drawer reveals located not on the hills but in the valley of the flutes, for an even cleaner look. I'm in love with those Blum Movento slides. Hint for the furniture hackers out there: Ikea uses exactly those Movento Tip-Ons for their Exceptionell slides in the Method carcasses.
I thought this same thing as well. And if one were really ambitious, they could add some kind of vertical lines to hide the vertical seams. Now I'm thinking about doing something similar but with smaller flutes (or even simple grooves) where every reveal is hidden.
One way I've found to speed up the flute sanding is to buy a dowel rod that fits the flute and wrap it with sandpaper. Even if you just make the rod about 6 inches this saves a load of time.
A big pat on the back for you. Congratulations on a project well done. I really enjoy watching your videos and I can't wait for the video of your wife telling you she wants a matching medicine cabinet and an above toilet cabinet.
absolutely love this one. the added texture will give a stunning element of dimension that was well worth the tediousness of the build. you'll have to let us see the completed bathroom. outstanding job to the wife on the design
Jason! SAFETY GLASSES! You almost had a finger problem after a router incident a couple weeks ago, now protect your eye holes! You only get one set, and once they're gone, they're gone!
Just wanna say, I happened across your channel a couple of months ago as I was getting ready to get more into making my own shop, and you are by far my favorite wood working channel! Great projects and very entertaining! And I’m a big bourbon fan myself haha
Love the woodworking and the humor. My step son and I both watch and share ideas from 1300 miles apart. Thanks for some really great and some mostly great😅videos
Good point on drawer face screw placement. When you started routing that slab out I knew those were going to be placed precisely. Dope vanity cab construction and design dude.
Nice work, as usual of course. I think it would be great if you did a video on a cocktail smoker. You loving bourbon and making a smoker for your drink. Sound awesome? I would really love to see your take on the smoker.
Wow! Beautiful! Thanks for this one brother! Enjoy Blighty mate! If you get a chance go visit my hometown of Liverpool, its a great city and a beautiful part of the country. Cheers.
Outstanding build. You are such a lucky man if you have a wife that will allow you to build her design/dream. It would be great to get her take on the cabinet. Thanks for sharing and tally ho… enjoy your jaunt across the pond. Thanks for sharing!
This is so cool! Although I was hoping you would spray it with varnish, I think it would look great with a gloss finish. But I really like how it turned out
@@ZackPyle sure. But some prefer no work at all... QoL design. Unless you really favor the horizontal lines before extra cleaning. It's a matter of choice in the end.
Given all the forethought and attention to detail required to turn that design into a masterpiece with all those flutes and the matchey-matchey required: being two slides short is merely a 'shoulder shrug and a sigh' event. Beautiful work! I'm laughing at how much weight all that hardware added to the simple drawer design.
Great looking cabinet and video! Love the attention to detail and your outstanding craftsmanship, simply over the top! Really hope you have a video when you do the install, would really like to see it come to life! Thank you for sharing!!

That's amazing work wish I could build like that I do a little bit of woodworking just small stuff did make a blanket ladder though turned out pretty nice
Super sweet that you work so hard on making your wife happy! Also, if it makes you feel better about all that sanding and staining all those fluted grooves, just remember that your work on those is done, and she's going to have to dust them all weekly...forever. LOL
The Movento sync bar has an internal shape that locks onto the "+" shaped inserts that come with the tip-on devices. Arrows by contrast, are circular inside. Order the Blum sync bars with your Movento hardware, from your Blum supplier.
Very nice. Since your blade kerf was determining your reveals - could you have simply laid the box down with drawer opening facing the ceiling, dropped the full slab in place aligned L&R and top&bottom, screwed it in to all the drawers to establish the position, removed it and made the cuts to the slab, and reattached with guaranteed perfect positioning? Then you wouldn't have to do each drawer with the spacers to align everything
The slides will shift slightly when they don't have gravity holding them down relative to the ground. The reveals would be off once the cabinet is set upright.
@@nickwill4344 good point. Instead, it could be done upright - he'd only have to set the spacing bottom, left, and right and then screw the whole slab in to to the drawers to establish drawer positions. Removing the slab and chopping it in to the individual fronts then it should all be spaced perfectly. Only a small pickup in efficiency, though, and only a viable solution when using the kerf to define the reveal...
hey hey. very nice. how does timber hold up in bathrooms? what is a convenient way to separate the top from the vanity so it can be sanded and refinished when needed? thank you.. i really enjoy your channel.
Hi Jason! Thank you very very much for all the videos! Love them a lot! I fall in love with with wood working for a while now. My favorite thing to do with a floating vanity is put LED lights under the toe kick and install a motion sensor switch so they turn on automatically when you walk in the room.
Next time you do something like this. For the sanding in between the grooves grab a round over bit a make a male like piece that will just fit right inside the grooves, attached sand paper to it and than it should glide back and fourth inside the grooves. Should save a bunch of time with sanding.

Nice thinking but I think we're good here the plumbing will hold it it down if we lose gravity
And what other weird thoughts keep you up? I’m curious

As a plumber, I approve this vanity. Well done sir!
I was watching you sand all those flutes and thought, what a great application for a Festool LS120.

A tip for sanding fluted stuff is to wrap a dowel with sand papare to get down in there to save your fingers

In the future, you can wrap the sandpaper around a dowel to sand the divots in the fluted faces!
Great ! Been thinking about doing this.
Push to open drawers are great but they do tend to accumulate finger marks both small and large!
