In this video, Dr. Berg answers the question of how many nuts are too many while you are doing keto (ketogenic diet). Consuming too many nuts could cause bloating or gas. Here are some reasons why.
    1. You need more bile production when you consume more fat.
Eating too much fat, too quickly (especially nuts), irritates the digestive system, especially around the gallbladder and pancreas.
    2. Nuts have certain anti-nutrients and chemicals that can irritate certain parts of the digestive system, specifically the bile duct.
If you are predisposed to kidney stones, certain nuts do have high oxalates. Germinating is the process where you soak the nut in the water overnight, rinsing it out and drying it out in the oven so when you consume them, it is easier to digest. Consuming raw nuts is harder for the immune system.
Recommendation: Do not consume more than ¼ of a cup of nuts per meal, and do not consume more than 1 tbs. of nut butter per meal.

Since you mentioned almond butter. Here is a great way to enjoy a small amount. Get 2 or 3 eggs and whisk them with 2 tablespoons of heavy cream and 1 tablespoon of stevia then light up the stove with grass fed butter or coconut oil. After whisking them pour on the mix and cover with Lid on lowest heat. It will become a pancake and then after 5-10 mins fold the omelette in half. Put it on your plate and add 2 tablespoons of almond butter like you would with syrup for a pancake. Sprinkle more stevia on top and enjoy. I started also adding half a tablespoon of organic honey only because I already lost over 150lbs on keto. Now I'm lifting weights again to get bigger so a lil sugar for me is beneficial only coming from honey or berries.

Dr. Atkins recommended that people limit nuts/seeds to 2 ounces a day during the 20g net carb induction phase of his diet. 1/4 cup of almonds is about 1 ounce, or about 23 nuts, which would leave room for an ounce of seeds (for example.)
A one-ounce serving of nuts greatly differs. The following equal one ounce: 24 almonds, 18 medium cashews, 12 hazelnuts or filberts, 8 medium Brazil nuts, 12 macadamia nuts, 35 peanuts, 15 pecan halves and 14 English walnut halves (3).

Here's a generic recipe for a power ketofriendly salad- the big 11 :
    1) some fermented foods- kimchi, sauerkraut, mustard, pickle etc.
    2) some seeds- sunflower, pumpkin, chia
    3) mixed greens- arugula, rocket, butterhead, fresh basil, fresh thyme, fresh mint, fresh cilantro, baby spinach etc.
    4) some cabbage
    5) some peppers
    6) some grated cheese
    7) some apple cider vinegar
    8) some nuts- almonds, cashew, walnuts, etc.
    9) sea salt
    10) some virgin olive oil
    11) some aromatics- oregano, rosemary, thyme etc.
The fun is in the "some"
Just a little of each in guestimate proportion, except for the ACV, needs to be according to preferred tanginess.
Does not need to use all 11 ingredients, just any combination will do.

That "turn off switch" that says "enough is enough" and makes it easy to stop eating is a pretty cool switch. Mine works a lot better with keto / IF than it did before, but if I add salt to nuts (or pork rinds), my switch doesn't work so well anymore.

Today is January24,2023. Back on Keto, lost 70 lbs with you, Dr. Berg, still off Type2 Diabetic meds, up about 17 lbs. Started back on Keto, your way with a big salad, chicken salad, Greek dressing and pistachios. The first day or so, I tend to eat larger quantity but it tapers off. I think out of all of the Keto Dr’s diets out there, yours is best explained and works very well. I turned 64 years old 2 days ago and a retired ICU Travel Nurse so I know all of these variations and tried them but yours is the most effective and easiest to menu plan but honestly, from a medical viewpoint, it isn’t deficient in certain vitamins/minerals and doesn’t ‘demonize’ certain fruits and veggies. Much simpler, safer and still, did not gain all my weight back and yes, I did fall off to a point but not bad enough to not get back on and get it back off.

I measure mine out according to the label on the bag, Pistachios, at Costco they have both shelled and un-shelled , its actually cheaper to buy the shelled ones. I kept all the shells and weighed them,
I save $4 a bag now purchasing the shelled ones. For whatever reasons the ones with the shell are more expensive then the ones without.
Where I am, at Costco - $18 - 680gram bag no shell. / - $22 - 1.3kg bag with shell - BUT keep all the shells and you get 680grams of nuts

    Anatomy of shelled raw almonds:
Fresh almonds have a green velvety outer covering: similar to human hair.
Almond shells are covered with small pores and fine holes: similar to hair follicles on the human head.
Almonds can be a powerful brain food.
The green bark of almonds can be a powerful tonic for hair.
Almonds are heart-like and have texture and striations similar to heart muscles.
Almonds can strengthen the connection between the heart and the brain.
The heart is an organ associated with emotions.
Almonds can be beneficial for mental health.
    Functions of the skin
Provides a protective barrier against mechanical, thermal and physical injury and hazardous substances.
    Prevents loss of moisture.
Reduces harmful effects of UV radiation.
Acts as a sensory organ (touch, detects temperature).
    Helps regulate temperature.
An immune organ to detect infections etc.
    Production of vitamin D.
Shelled almonds consist of small pores.
The color of the almond bark is similar to the color of human skin.
Small holes on the almond bark resemble hair follicles on human skin.
Raw almonds can be useful for similar functions, just like human skin:
(Provides a protective barrier against mechanical, thermal and physical injury and hazardous substances.)
Almond bones can strengthen the skin and have a protective effect against toxins.
    (Prevents loss of moisture.)
    Almonds can maintain skin moisture.
(Reduces harmful effects of UV radiation.)
Almonds can protect the skin and body from harmful rays and radiation.
(Acts as a sensory organ) (touch, detects temperature).
Almonds can be beneficial for paralysis and relieve numbness in the body.
    (Helps regulate temperature.)
Almonds can increase resistance to cold.
(An immune organ to detect infections etc.)
Almonds can strengthen immunity and treat infections.
    (Production of vitamin D.)
Almonds are a source of vitamin D and can also increase the absorption of vitamin D.

    My personal experience:
I believe that hard-shelled raw almonds increase resistance to cold.

The phytates (enzyme inhibitor/antinutrient) for almonds walnuts and others is mainly in the thin brown skin on the nut, so white almonds are much better. As for walnuts, soak them in salted water for 12 hours before eating and what i do is also boil them for about 15 minutes before eating, this destroys the phytates almost completly.

On our pot of nuts : ´roasted in peanut, cottonseed and/or canola oil’. How about that ? It’s rarely just nuts, unless they’re in the shell. For almonds, well...hard to crush. Bought a pack of those and it was packed with vermin. A bit too ´natural’ for me.

Yes you hit the nail on the head Dr Berg. I was doing way too much fat to handle as a whole and I had to ease up. My body was on overload with the new keto diet. Nut butters always used to make me gain weight lol. I loved almond butter and I have abstained. I guess I'll have to measure 1/4 of the pistachios I eat per meal. I don't want to overdo it. Do pistachios have Omega 6? I want to avoid too much. You mentioned in the other video Omega 3 which is great.

I just read today that the Walnuts, Pistachios, and Almonds can also have Aflatoxins. I gave up Peanut Butter because of this. Worrying about the liver cancer causing mold is scary. They did say to get the unshelled and store in freezer and keep for no longer than a month. What are your thoughts on this Dr. Berg? I mean everything seems to have some issue. Pistachios have such great health benefits and even Walnuts recently were found to shrink breast cancer tumors. How can we stay away from Aflatoxins?

I gather from the video that you should restrict consumption if there's inflammation or irritation. I know I shouldn't consume too many because of the high fat content, otherwise it seems the main limitation, if you don't have an issue with nuts, is caloric intake and avoiding taking the place of other allocation of calories from other sources of daily nutrients which is easy to displace with high calorie nuts.
