Kevin Onyona, runs the busy Swahili Village restaurant, in Ashton, Maryland, serving African delicacies to the world. Kevin, who is a cancer survivor is now planning to expand the business into other parts of the USA to keep the taste of Kenya alive in a foreign land

What are the odds! I was in that restaurant yesterday.. I googled Kenyan restaurants near me.. and Swahili village came up, So i drove there, and had me a nice plate of pilau, beef, and chapo. Home away from home

I went there for the first time last Sunday. The food was on point. We had samosa, sausage, and bajia for appetizer. I got mbuzi kaanga with spinach and chapo. My friend got mbuzi choma with cabbage and pilau. Everything was delicious and a good portion is served. We actually had to carry home for dinner.
I had planned to celebrate my graduation here with family in May of 2018. The fire broke out just a week before and all my plans failed. Now, we are going through a pandemic that is hurting restaurant businesses. But I will continue buying my food from here to support my fellow Kenyan.
We will get through this 🙏🏽

Ohhh my God.. I remember eating at Swahili village when it was just starting and all I can say it has grown grown grown.. all this is just God's annointing this place.. and their food is bomb.. for sure it's a taste of home away from home...

I loved Swahili village. I used to take my wazungu and nigerian room mates for Ugali Maziwa on Sundays. This kevin guy was so humble and kind. I was shocked to see how rich he actually is on this interview lol.
Jeff should do more of such episodes or even documentaries. He is so good at what he does. Amazing.

Kevo is so down to earth.Everytime am in DC MD area I have to check in at swahili village. Remember when I went there in 2014 when he was missing coz he had been diagnosed. The next time I went by he was so down to earth letting me and my peeps know everything was well then.The new location is so dope.

@@bellaolum9768 it's not exactly leaving it behind 'coz one can either leave it for their kids or rent it out n collect money as a landlord while leaving comfortably in Kenya during retirement years. Either way, it's an investment. Others also start investing at home when they get ready to relocate. Others also decide to live abroad permanently
