A new Swahili Consulate Restaurant in downtown Washington DC! where the diaspora can rub shoulders with the diplomats while eating nyama choma, kachumbari, fish and ugali - congrats my friend thanks for sharing our food, culture and vibes with the rest of the world! Asante.

Inspiring. He should also think of franchising the restaurant, the McDonald’s style. The name Swahili Village might become a big name and he can’t run all those restaurants by himself.
He will be paid loyalties for the franchise Swahili Village.

jim focus The best way is not to compare. That’s how my Kenyan friend almost died of hunger, in America, because he compared everything to the T, when he first arrived. He has no problem now. He learnt real fast. I still believe that even with minimum wage in America, food is still pretty affordable compared to Kenya. And also, when it comes to restaurants, location matters too! You’ve had in the story of the West African who keeps coming back. Trust me, if the food and the services weren’t that good, they wouldn’t be coming back. Also, following the law of the land when it comes especially to the food industry in this country, makes the prices “seem” slightly higher to cover for the insurances and any legal fees in case anything comes up (like an outbreak). Last but not least, getting the supply, some local, and I bet from back home, makes it quite expensive. The clientele matters too! Looks like the services and the food is so good, the clients are willing to part with that amount of money. It’s a win win situation. If I can spend $300 in a Mexican Fire and Grill, that is, without drinks. Why not at Swahili Village😊

By the way, my money goes a long way too, Charity wise! I don’t have to go in the details of it but I take care of me, my people, and it trickles down to many many more individuals in my life. And I’m grateful!
