Vadym Skibitskyi, Deputy Head of Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, has spoken about a Russian "three-layered" plan to destabilise Ukraine in an interview with The Economist.
According to Skibitsky, May will be a key month when Russia will implement a "three-layered" plan to destabilise Ukraine.
The main factor is military. Although the US Congress belatedly approved an increase in military aid, it will take weeks before it reaches the front line. It is unlikely to match Russia's stockpile of shells or provide an effective defence against low-tech, destructive guided bombs.
Both Ukraine and Russia may eventually face a shortage of weapons. But if nothing else changes, Ukraine will run out of weapons first.
Skibitskyi said the biggest uncertain factor in the war was Europe. If Ukraine's neighbours do not find a way to further increase their defence production to help Ukraine, they too will eventually be targeted by Russia.
He downplayed the importance of Article 5, which deals with NATO's collective defence and even the presence of NATO troops in countries bordering Ukraine. This article, in his view, may prove to be of little practical significance.
"The Russians will take the Baltics in seven days. NATO’s reaction time is ten days", Skibitskyi said.
The second factor is Russia's disinformation campaign in Ukraine aimed at undermining Ukrainian mobilisation and the political legitimacy of Volodymyr Zelenskyy, whose presidential term is set to expire on 20 May. Although the Constitution clearly allows for its indefinite extension in wartime, his opponents are already highlighting the president's vulnerability.
The third factor, according to Skibitskyi, is Russia's relentless campaign to isolate Ukraine internationally: "They will be shaking things up whichever way they can."
He also noted that Ukraine's bravery and sacrifice have given Europe a multi-year head start, eliminating the immediate threat of the once-fearsome Russian airborne forces and marines for at least a decade.
Now, as Skibitskyi stressed, the question is whether Europe will reciprocate by allowing Ukraine to stay in the game: "We have no choice. We want to live. But the outcome of the war isn’t just down to us."

@@pietbiertappertje4529 all I see is Russia liberated 75% of the Donbas & 90% of the sea ports with Ukrainian retreats meaning it'll likely soon be 100% for both. Now that Ukraine won't stop sending missiles into Russian neighborhoods, Russias new plan is to create a demilitarized zone between the 2 nations, likely up to the Dnipro river & Russia will sacrifice 2 million soldiers & all pre war equipment to do so, but they won't be defeated. They have a large military & new equipment. You'll figure it out soon enough. This will be a 5 year war in the history books.

how long will the supplies last? this might be the final aid package from America in a long time if trump becomes president, and Europe won't be able to supply much weapons since there are no large ammunition and weapons storages as in the US, Russia, China, Iran etc Russia is supplied by N.K., Iran, China, India etc In 2-3 months the Russians will adept to ATACMS as they did before with other weapons.
Europe needs to restart it's military engines, turn a war economy and help Ukraine otherwise Ukraine will lose

"The Baltics will be taken in 7 days"
For comparison, Ukraine has liberated 43,000 squared kilometres. Russia still controls after Feb 2022, 68,000 squared kilometres
The Baltics are in total, 220,000 squared kilometres.
    Sure

      @@Diego-tm3dj Population means nothing.
      Vietnam won against the US.
Afghanistan won against both the US and the Soviets.
The Axis in WW2 had more population than the Soviet Union.
WW1 Germany in 1918, had more people in its control than the Entente had.
Population, means very little in war. As a further example, both Germany and the Soviet Union were out of manpower by 1945

Russia will never win. Even if Kiev falls today and Zelenskyy is killed, Russia would still face an insurgency the world has never seen. Ukraine, awash in weapons, with battle hardened men that look and sound like Russians would resist fanatically. Russia couldn’t take Afghanistan IN THE ‘80S and Ukraine would be much worse. Russia has wasted blood and treasure only to watch two more countries join NATO. Russia needs to find another dictator and go home.
