  • Introduction and Overview of the LOJ Conversions LS / LT to Nissan VQ40DE Manual Transmission Adapter. These adapters are available to suit Gen 3 and Gen 4 LS Engines as well as Gen 5 LT engines.
    This is simply the best 6-speed option for your Chevy Truck or Hotrod next to the T56 transmission! The 2005+ Nissan Frontier 6-Speed Manual Transmission shares its architecture with the robust Nissan 350Z CD009 transmission (The 350Z transmissions have been proven to hold 700+HP). However, the Frontier version is in a case that makes it much better for swaps into classic muscle cars and trucks. Why? Because it has a top-mounted shifter instead of a remote shifter, and a bellhousing large enough to accept a clutch and flywheel assembly that is the same size as a stock LSx application.
    KEEP YOUR AUTOMATIC L83 / L86 CRANKSHAFT! Little known fact, if you try to put a T56 behind an LT engine that had an auto behind it, you need to replace the crankshaft! They are not machined for the T56 input shaft! However, where the LOJ Pilot Bushing Installs is compatible with BOTH LT Manual and LT Automatic crankshafts!

    Thanks man I was rolling the idea around installing the T56 in my 2011 GMC Sierra but can’t go over all that’s done just to much power for the 6l80 lol this changes the game thanks guys I’m new to the channel so today is a good day God Bless!

    I don’t know why this info can be so hard to find. I’ve searched the crap out of transmissions for lsx swaps and this never came up. Sounds like a better option than the AR5 setup.

    Need to make an adapter to run a GM transfer case behind one of these transmissions! Like an AWD 4472/NV149/NV120 would be awesome!
    I’m currently trying to figure out how to get the NV120(TBSS) case to fit behind one to do the swap on my 98 Bravada that is already NV3500 swapped but I’d like a stronger trans option for the twin supercharged V6.

    Sounds like the perfect trans to use when i ls swap my 2002 Frontier lol
    The 2002 manual trans is a toploaded 5 speed similar to a z32 trans and the bellhousing is too small to use adapter plate and keep chev starter

    Engineers rule! Do I understand that this is a viable option for the z32, 300ZX conversion? and, how's the Gen 5, LT conversion coming along? Thanks

    Good stuff. Question about these. I have a 1990 2wd GMC C15. I found one of these transmissions for a good price but it's 4wd. Can I still use it in my application? 2wd only? thanks!

    I have 2 questions about this transmission: First, are there aftermarket shifters available, or are you stuck with that giant thing? Secondly, how far back from the bellhousing flange is the shifter? A T5 is about 26" from block surface to shifter, and since I'd like to use this to replace a T5 (thirdgen f-body), that dimension, along with the ability to run a MUCH shorter shifter, is critical. Thanks!

    Man if there were more transfer case options for this transmission it would be killer for 4x4 swaps

    I have an 02 Sierra 2500HD 4x4 with the LQ4 and I been wanting a good manual transmission option for a long time. The ZF6 is impossible to source and it leaves me with the NV4500 as my best option which is disappointing as hell. Does this conversion also work on the 4x4 version of this transmission?

    I have a 04 Nissan frontier 2.4. I'm wanting to do the ls swap. So my question is can I use my 5 speed trans with your kit

    • @twoeightythreez
      @twoeightythreez 2 роки тому

      04 Nissan Frontier had the FS5W71C transmission. It’s very stout for its intended use, but can only handle about 300 lb-ft of torque.
      That’s why it was used behind a 4cylinder.
      Even Nissan didn’t use this transmission behind the VG33 that came in the 2004 V6 frontier.
      Hope that answers your question

    • @twoeightythreez

      They already make a kit for that transmission. You would just have to use the z32 300zx bell housing on your transmission.

      They are about the same girth as a t56 but are about the same length as a truck nv3500

    I started following the Swapology build and came across this video. Really great info guys! I really appreciate how open you guys are about sharing your knowledge, especially compared to others in this business.
    I have one question though.Does this trans have the same tail housing bolt pattern and tail housing length of the CD009? From parts diagrams it appears the transmissions share a main shaft. My reason for this question is it would be cheaper for me to buy a junkyard VQ40 2wd trans and swap the striker rod and the tail housing onto my CD009 to get a toploader shifter than it would be for me to buy or even design and make my own CD009 topload shifter. I have a CD009/LSx swap I am working on but my build needs the shifter to basically be in the middle of the inspection plate. I have gone through a couple design iterations for a relocated shifter but it seems like OEM might be the better option if that could be cobbled together. Thanks in advanced.

    • @LOJConversions
      @LOJConversions  4 роки тому +2

      BTW, you can not swap the frontier tailhousing onto a CD009. The striker rod is supported by the mid plate and input shaft plate on a frontier, it is supported by the mid plate and tail housing on a CD. If you put the frontier tail on a CD you only have one support for the rail left and it won’t work.

    Just for the adapter plate and flywheel is $1000.... Not including clutch , yoke , and the actual cost of the trans which used are actually running $500-600. So itd be around $2000+ up and running with this setup and trans....

    • @yotaismygame
      @yotaismygame 4 роки тому +3

      If it can consistently hold 5-600whp I think that’s a fair price. Clutch can’t really be factored in to the transmission cost. You’ll need a clutch for your power level regardless of the transmission.

    • @twoeightythreez
      @twoeightythreez 2 роки тому

      Have you seen what people want for a t56 core? I’ll just say that you can almost get a new Nissan 6 speed for what a REBUILDABLE T56 goes for (and parts for t56 are getting rarer by the day).
      $2k all in for a manual trans LS is very reasonable, especially considering the Nissan’s shifter is in a better spot.
      The only way this could be better would be if Nissan would have just offered the Frontier with a 5.3 from the factory lll
