  • White Castle has been around for more than 96 years, opening their first location in 1921. In 1938, Royal Castle opened their first location in 1938. Being the oldest burger places in the world, Master sushi chef Hiroyuki Terada set out to find the closest White Castle and Royal burger places in Miami. We weren't successful in finding a White Castle in Miami, so we went to our local Walgreens and picked up a 6-pack in the frozen section. Of the 175 locations Royal Castle had in their hay day, only 1 still exists, and we pay them a visit to see history in its' final stretch.
In this episode, Chef Terada pairs a couple of White Castle cheeseburgers katsu style with instant curry to easily make a meal you'll want to eat again soon! Give this a try at home and let us know how it was for you.

Thanks for mentioning me! :-D So sorry about the wild goose chase for White Castle. Guess Google returned information on a residential area named White Castle. :-( I did find out, albeit a little late, that the restaurant doesn't operate farther south than Nashville, Tenn. I never considered that or the fact that there would be other places with the same name. Live and learn I guess. What you did with those sliders was amazing! I'm going out and buying panko bread crumbs asap and trying that. I might not do the curry though. But the panko fried sliders really got my mouth watering. I'm glad you found the White Castle's at the store and hope you liked them as much as I do. Take care and see you next time!

Wow looks great. When I was growing up in the 50's we would go ice skating and then dad would pick up a couple of bags of these for a treat when we got home. At that time they were 12 ¢ each. The last time I saw a white castle store was in 1984 in New Jersey not far from St Joseph's Hospital in Patterson.

Once again, great video Hiro! Another great Katsu dish for us to try at home. I have been questioning something though.. I've seen you make all these dishes from pre-made stuff. I think you should do a home-made, everything from scratch dish. Something traditional or something like a hybrid. Doesn't matter what it is, but I would like for it to be something that's close to your heart. After all, cooking is an essential part of how we express emotion. Would love for you to consider this idea, it would mean so much to me. Thanks again~

Here in the NYC area, there are still plenty of White Castle restaurants. There used to be a competitor called White Tower, but they're long gone now. And the name "slider" for a small hamburger has become generic, but White Castle burgers were originally called that because they were so soft (because they were "steam-grilled" on a bed of onions) that you could swallow one whole and it would just _slide_ right down your throat.

I usually make my own curry from scratch at home. When I saw the grand mac katsu ramen I was excited to try it, but then I realized we dont have the grand mac (it's coming soon here in NM), and we don't have an asian market within a few hours for me to get good noodles. This, however, I could do now. Really interested in the sliders because they're much smaller and easier to handle with the breading and frying process, especially from frozen. Another winner, Hiroyuki-san!

It's right next to a huge flea market and a car wash that's constantly filled with gangbangers getting their rims cleaned. When me and my friends used to go there, it was a real hazardous expedition, but the sliders are so good it was always worth it.
