Bret is the saddest story on this list. In a world where Chris Jericho and Billy Gunn are still active, it's heartbreaking seeing how many dream matches we missed at least up until 2014. It wasn't even a butterfly effect thing, nothing about his early retirement changed much of anything... he could've walked in any storyline in the following decade.
Honorable mentions: 1. Rikishi. He suffered an eardrum injury in March of 2001. He returned to Smackdown on May 3rd only to injure his shoulder seventeen days later in a match with William Regal. 2. Paige. She underwent neck surgery in 2016 and returned in November 2017 only to reinjure her neck a month later at a house show. This forced her into retirement which of course was short-lived as she would wrestle again in AEW.
How tightly wound do you have to be to tear *both* quads doing something seemingly as simple as enter a pro wrestling ring? Answer: I guess jacked up senior citizen 'tightly wound'...
From what I remember, he said that he told them to also fix his knees during the surgery as well. Afterwards, when he finally recovered, he said he felt so much better.
I remember in the match against rhea the crowd was DED SILENT and you could hear Tegan crying, sobbing and even audiblly praying to God and begging for the moment to not be real. It was Sooooo heart breaking 😢
This has got to be one the worst things that can happen to a wrestler. Imagine waiting months to recover from an injury and finally being cleared to return to the ring only to suffer another injury mere minutes after your return.
What I find interesting is people who are labelled "injury prone" and then subsequently lose their jobs as a result; Batista, on the other hand, was a good buddy of Triple H and therefore was given unlimited chances to recover and return 😁 Seamus, in his early days with the company, was considered very clumsy in the ring and was hurting a lot of people in the ring; he was Triple H's gym buddy at the time and convinced Vince to give him more time and more opportunities to hone his craft 😌 Triple H even went as far as to say "I'll work with him" to avoid Seamus working with (and hurting) anyone else 😎
I'll never forget Christian's ankle injury. He messed it up doing a simple baseball slide- Something he'd done, literally, hundreds of times before. No big bump. No crazy two-person spot. This was the first injury that really made me realize, 'Wow, sh!t can seriously go sideways ANY given moment.'
Poor Cora Jade as well. She just got back and got hurt again. She’s one of the nicest people and I hope her comeback after this will be even more successful.
He tore an acl in one knee, had it rebuilt with parts from a body donor. Came back after 12 months, and on his first match back tore the acl in the other knee. Out another 10 months i think. I know the first match was a singles match, because alex shelly was out with a broken collar bone. There was literally 2 years+ of no motor city machine guns.
Watching this video will make you appreciate The Miz even more and appreciate that promo on Talking Smack where he dressed down Daniel Bryan and told him that he (Miz) has NEVER been injured in his entire career because he wrestles SAFE. I appreciate Miz
It isn't immediately but didn't Batista also come back from injury, get booked in a ppv that was like 2 weeks away, win the title and then lost it the next night on Raw to I think Jericho because he had gotten injured again? That's what happens when you use those vitamins to get big - the muscle is weak and tears easily, explains why Big Dave was so injury prone.
@@urbaindelva7869 oh no, he was up and down in size a lot - he never shrunk like some guys but you can see changes. For someone who was usually the powerhouse in the match and didn't have to sell, he sure seems to get hurt a lot and a lot of tears and such.
Tegan Nox is someone who I'd love to be a fan of if she could just stay healthy, but I can't because she won't. She needs to stop using knee strikes like her "Shiniest Wizard" finisher and start adjusting based on her own capabilities. Like honestly, what's the definition of insanity? To me, it's continuing to work your own knees after you've torn and destroyed them on multiple occasions.
You forgot Jeff Hardy when he returned to WWE in 2018, he won the US title, lost it to Shinsuke Nakamura, randomly got in a feud with Randy Orton here he got his ear drilled and his skull fractured after a punt kick.
Dave Batista goes to my gym and has for years. Lives down the street from me, and his daughter went to my school when I was there. He is the largest man I have ever seen in person...and I have friends in the nfl.
Speaking of Mason Ryan, the new Gladiators reboot is pretty good (the last reboot was the show that got the careers of Mason Ryan and Nick Aldis started).
yeah early in Batista's career he got injured a lot. In 02 after he and Reverend D-Von slip in the summer Batista disappeared, the was announced for the WWE tag title tournament of that year teaming with D-Von only to suddenly be replaced by Ron Simmons which makes me think he was still injured. Batista would then pop up on Raw managed by Ric Flair in late November or December only to by February get injured along with Randy Orton in that infamous house against the Dudley's. But in the end life worked out for Dave.
A common time for athletes (and bodybuilders like pro wrestlers) to get injured is right after they take a break: they are hyped up and try to go 100% immediately right after getting back, when they haven't built back up to their old 100%.
AND, he kept wrestling AFTER the fact as well, not following the doctors advices, AND, wrestled in a hardcore match against TERRY FUNK, of all people. Bret screwed Bret in the end.
I recently hurt my wrist pulling the garbage can to house, hit a bump and it just twisted it weird. Thought nothing of it but it kept me from working out for almost 3 months. Injuries suck
It's not Nashes fault, that he got injured so often. That's a problem many freakishliy tall people have. It's a miracle, how the Taker and Big Slow could do this job for so long. I don't know abaut Paul, but Taker had knee troubles, and Khali moved like a Zombie in his later years.
Big Show/Paul Wight surely developed knee issues, as he clearly changed the way he normally would deliver the Chokeslam. During his time in WCW and his early days in the WWF he would land on his knee, but over time he stopped doing that and would started to deliver it more like Undertaker or Kane.
Top Flight must have a witch's curse cast upon them because every time one of them comes back from injury and they get another run going, the other brother gets injured in some horrific manner. I think they've had 5 injuries between them in 3 years?
I'm a little sketchy on the timing, was this list put out before, after, or around the same time as the Punk/Cody match (his first major match coming back to WWE), only to tear his tricep again (was it the same one he previously injured, or was it the *other* one this time?)
Bruh. Goldberg is just a fcking injury machine and HADNT EVEN TRAINED TO BE A PROFESSIONAL WRESTLER. Like he couldn’t even wrestle which is his why his matches always ended quickly
6:36- Yeah, besides the issues with injuries I’m pretty sure his career was starting to smell like a dead fish after he joined the NOD (his biggest rivals in WWF)! The injuries just made it come faster, and made it more official
Batista was sooo roided out, for a part of his career, he only wrestled 6 months at a time. The other six months he was rehabbing some sort of torn muscle.
I love how every time Bret Hart is mentioned in these kinds of lists, they only mention the kick. Never the botched figure four on the ring post where he cracked his skull against that, or the fact that one of those matches he had afterwards was a _fucking hardcore match against Terry Funk._ Or, if they do, it's a throw away comment. Fucking unreal. But sure, blame the green guy who shouldn't have been put in that match to begin with.
"It probably wasn't the best idea to book Bret in a no DQ match with Terry Funk straight after a concussion"; yes, because WCW cared about that kind of stuff (!) 😆
I'm kinda tired to hear that Bret's career was ended by "a single kick to the head" when: 1) that wasn't the only concussion he suffered in that match (Stevie Richards speculates that he got his first concussion a few moments earlier), and 2) he had that hardcore match with Terry "I Started Doing Moonsaults Aged 50 And Went To Wrestle Deathmatches In Japan" Funk, which can't have helped his cerebral health.
Tegan Nox and Dakota Kai were known as Team Kick, which is ironic cause every time they kick they hurt something in their legs. I love DK too shes 1 of my faves, really sucks to see. Chris Sabin has had 3 ACL tears too, 2 being back to back. Why wasn't that on this list? CHRIS SABIN LITERALLY MISSED A YEAR FROM AN ACL TEAR, WRESTLED ZIMA ION, AND RE TORE IT IN HIS FIRST MATCH BACK. THIS SHOULD BE LIKE #1 LOL
Stop saying Goldberg gave Hart the concussion when it is obvious from watching the Starrcade match that Bret gave himself the concussion by botching a figure four around the ring posts earlier in the match, smashing the back of his head on the ground really hard and being visibly concussed from then on. Bret was in a very bad way long before the superkick. It was never Goldberg's fault.
Bret Hart being injured basically made HBK the blueprint for kids today & is the main reason why the Young Bucks style is preferred to MJF. MJF will always make more money, but the Punks, FTRs, & others of the world are in the minority. There arent enough of them to carry a company into a new era of 1980s-2002. We are going to be stuck with A LOT of trash for a long time because of that.
4:48 you can tell why nash had so much leg problems: dude simply didn't train his legs, only upper body. having to carry his huge weight, the untrained legs gave up
His one knee was already shot before he even got into wrestling due to an injury that ended his basketball career. Not much he could do when his legs were already fucked before he stepped in the ring for the first time.
Ahmed Johnson’s last injury in WWF was caused by Ron Simmons as a receipt for hurting him several months earlier. Yeah. Farooq worked him over worse than Perry Saturn treated the jobbers 😂
