This video is incredibly helpful!! This morning I was struggling with my horse breaking to the trot every time I half halted at the canter, and now I know it's because I had the timing all wrong. Love the mane tip! Thank you Amelia!
Wow A you are a fab teacher as you explain the small details in simple language and also cllearly demonstrate the very subtle ways to improve riding our beautiful horses - thank you
Love your riding & your positivity toward amateurs. This is so elementary, but I'd love a video on the full halt, when/how to ask without pulling, and how to get a balance halt on all 4 legs, from walk, trot & canter. Thank you
@@AmeliaNewcombDressage please!!! I’m struggling so much with that. Whenever I’m cantering and I want to do a downward transition to trot, my horse just collects the canter and I’m not able to bring it down to trot. What am I doing wrong?
I find your Dressage videos to be one of the best. Your explanations are broken down with guidelines to follow. Adjusting for each horse and riders needs. Thank you!
I'll never be doing this - I trail ride and don't own a horse but I'm trying to look like you on horse!!! Every now and then I do have some lessons and it does help, even on a trail horse!
This is brilliant !! Half halting when the mane’s up is game changing !! ( for me anyway....didn’t know that ! 😮) love your videos so much Amelia, you’re a wealth of information... so grateful you take the time to make/share these 🙏👏🏻🥰
Honestly I’ve watched so many videos on half halting and they all made it a lot more complicated than what it needed to be but ur video has been so so clear and straight to the point on what u need to do !!! Best video I’ve ever seen on half halting thanks so much!!💗
I love your videos Amelia, You explain things in a way the subject you're teaching on is easy to understand. Love the mane up analogy! I'll try it today
Super helpful because I have this issue with my horse. She use to be a Reiner so even if I quietly mutter the words “whoa” it goes from powerful canter to a standstill and if your not sitting back your going over her head lol. A smoother transition would be so nice!
This is a superb slice of help ! It was very clear and understandable, I'm having a problem with this, I shall try out your advice next training session, thank you so so much
Thank you!! Can't wait to play with this. I will definitely need lots of leg, I already know. But I love the mane reference because timing is everything.
Hello, first of all - thank you for your videos, they've been extremely helpful for me ♥ I have one question on this though and I hope it doesn't sound too stupid O:) but.. I understood half-halt as something that I should do, when I want to announce the horse that something is coming, some kind of a change (I interpreted it like for example I am doing transition, or I am changing tempo, or I am starting to do small circle etc.. ). But now I got confused when you demonstrated it at the end on the circle and you were doing half-halt on each stride. sorry for my english, I am not native
Half Halts have always been a guessing game for me. Thank you for your visual clue on the mane! You mentioned at one point in this video “use a little shoulder fore” if I heard you correctly. I don’t know that term, “Shoulder Fore” ? Four? Forward? Thanks for all your videos!
Reluctant going into a lope - trots faster many steps, throwing off my balance - then after finally loping a few strides, breaks into a fast trot again, requiring me to ask again. Ultimately, looks quite a mess.
Well, this did not work out too well for me this morning so my idea of watching the video 10 times did not work - I will watch it MORE times!! Someday I will get it! LOL
Staying in good rythm and balance. My horse is not tolerant of it so when I am off she stops or transitions back to a trot. In the long run riding a horse like her will pay but a lesson horse I bet would be faster to learn.
Finding a good rythm and balance... although my lovely mare is curently in rehabilitation, so we only trot and Walk at the moment. Thanks for a great video 😍🐴
Look forward to try on my guy I expect that I will need more leg and less seat and hand - he tends to break off if I collect by straightening myself...
Very useful tip, thank you, Amelia. Half halt when the hind leg is on the ground and the mane comes up, does it mean half halt on the FIRST beat of the canter?
Christine Richmond that’s what she means ☺️ but make sure he is responding. so if you use your inside leg, he needs to move off of it instead of leaning or bracing into it
This video is incredibly helpful!! This morning I was struggling with my horse breaking to the trot every time I half halted at the canter, and now I know it's because I had the timing all wrong. Love the mane tip! Thank you Amelia!
So glad this helped! Great job!
Halfhalt when the mane goes up 👍🏼 love that because everyone can coordinate that !
Not much help on a hogged horse!!! 😉

I never had any Idea just always felt it. Now I have the mechanical break down. Darn wear were 30 years ago!
Knowing to do the aid when the forehand is up very helpful.
Awww thank you so much for explaining the slight difference in between a hot and cold horse
You are so welcome!
Thank you so much..no one has ever explained it so well before
What a clear and organised way of teaching you have!

Wow, what a difference this has made to my 'pirouette canter'. Very well explained.
This is great! Love the mane reference! Thank you :)
The mane trick is great!!
Thanks for great tips, this is very useful for the canter work. :)
Will be very helpful for me especially for my OTTB, as well as your video of control of a hot horse.
This is the only video I've found that actually has helped me !
Hi Amelia. You are very knowledgeable. I just started riding and thanks to your videos I’ve learned a lot. Thanks

Amelia I absolutely adore your channel❣ Thank you so much for all your useful tips❣ I have improved my riding because of you❣
Great breakdown Amelia. Thanks. The tip of Mane UP is perfect.
Yay!!
Extremely helpful, love how you explain the canter half halt. Will try it next ride.
This is the only video I understand !! This is so clear ♥️
Thank you!
Perfect timing as I’m practice a test that has a long side canter with down transition in the corner in two weeks! Well give it a try tonight! 💞
Love your videos, Amelia, they're so helpful! Greets from Germany 🌞
I tried this today, and the difference was amazing! We even got a few strides with the canter being 'Up, I absolutely love your videos 😊

Yes - shoulder fore. Like shoulder-in but with less angle and no bend in the body.
Thank you
Super helpful🐴Thanks, Amelia💕
Realy awesome and great video thanks so much Amelia My dream is to atend teaching class by you.
I love your videos !!! You are an amazing rider and I love your videos !!! Your videos are really really helpful

Wow. Thank you for this!
Wouldn't the mane be going down to the side of the neck as the neck and forehand is coming up?
Very helpful, thank you!
Loved it.
What are you doing with leg? The upper inner thigh?
Thank u
This was a huge help! Also, love the shirts you wear - where can I find them?

Hello i just wanted to ask if you could make a video about how to do a simple change? Thank you
Good suggestion!!

Staying relaxed, breathing.

I have a horse show coming up and I need some advice about the canter 😅
Thank you from Kansas City.
How do you time the half halts when you are riding rising trot?
Fantastic really helped
Glad it helped!
Great 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Very useful tip, thank you, Amelia. Half halt when the hind leg is on the ground and the mane comes up, does it mean half halt on the FIRST beat of the canter?
How I do with the how to half halt at the canter
Love this 🤩🤩♥️

Equestrians who ride horses with a shaved mane: am i a joke to you?
haha this was SO useful! loved it xx
Don Carlos--So Beautiful!!😊❤️
When I make a small circle to slow down my horse tips to the inside. I feel like I’m riding a motorcycle on a bank.
Work on keeping him off of the inside leg and bending in the body
Amelia Newcomb Dressage I thought I was supposed to use my inside leg.
Christine Richmond that’s what she means ☺️ but make sure he is responding. so if you use your inside leg, he needs to move off of it instead of leaning or bracing into it
Ok I found this video 😅half halt
Good job!
