@@AstroBackyard Thanks Trevor, but I love how you can wrap up projects in a single day and the results like this are excellent (not to mention a lot more fun). You've got me thinking.
Both of y'alls have different circumstances, needs, and imaging habits, but you both also continuously wow me with the results. As long as you had fun, I say it's worth it. That's just my two cents, though.
Hey Trevor! Love the channel! Another great video! (as usual) looking forward to some clear summer nights in the future but for now... Seattle stays cloudy.
Hey Trevor, the Dec Autoguiding North/South/Off/Auto setting is on your graph adjustments on the far right. You want to change that to 'Auto' there. I think you knew this but it's easy to forget all these settings! The best idea is to create a new profile in PHD2 one for each setup, this way you can customize each different equipment settings. Great video and nice Cave Nebula!
I just picked up the Orion CC6 and can’t wait to buy a decent GEM. So far it’s pretty dedicated, opticaly to astronomy. You are trully an excellent guide. I gave a quick review on Orion as ” Cat Woman”. Clear skies.

Hey trevor. What do you think of this setup? The purpose is to have most portable astrophotography setup, no laptops, minimum weight and relatively cheap. Tripod: SW Star Adventurer Pro OTA: SW Evostar 72ED (2kg) Imaging Camera: ZWO ASI 294MC Pro (0.41 kg) Guidescope: ZWO mini guidescope (0.25 kg) Guide camera: ZWO ASI120MM mini (0.06 kg) All cables to ZWO ASIAIR (1kg) Counterweight (1kg) Total payload: 4.72 KG The total cost would be around $2K or less.
Love your videos! I'm learning a lot on how to out my equipment to work! One small request though... Please turn up the voice channel a bit. The music (nice choices, btw) is sometimes overwhelming in my earbuds when I get the voice levels up to where I can hear then...
Hi Trevor! Quick question-Does the dew heater not cause thermal currents across the optics and thus cause distortions to incoming light you are trying to photograph/video ? Like the same phenomenon that causes us to need to cool down Primary Mirror before use ? I'm a newbie so plz forgive me if i sound stupid. Great channel btw! Keep up the amazing work! Wes ( Liverpool, UK )
If your dec is adjusting a lot, it's usually from having your mount not level. I did the same thing and didn't even realize it until I set up on some soft ground and got off kilter throughout the evening. Loving your vids.
Nice video. After you take a picture, do you process it or is that what you see through your telescope whit all those beautiful colors? Also, what kind of a telescope did you use for this picture? Thanks.😏😏😏🙂🙂
Hello. I see you use a Pole Master camera and it is not permanently fixed to your mount. Do you think it's reasonnable to use one Pole Master with 2 mounts ? (I consider using it on both my actual EQ6R Pro and a Star Adventurer in a near future)
Thanks Trevor, I feel slightly less dumb now. I was out with my (new to me) EQ5 Pro at the weekend on M101 and lost over an hour's worth of data due to that same dec setting in PHD2. Good to know I'm not the only one to do this 🙈 Great image there too, love it 😍
Great pic. How did you manage 4 minute subs from your back yard without blowing everything out. What is your gain. Are you using those quad narrow band filters. Sorry for all the dumb questions. Just trying figure things out. Thanks
ok I have watched this channel for months now (6?) and have learned a lot I hope. Just ordered everything down to the laptop based on your setups. I joined an astronomy club. I won't have any excuses. Still waiting on the mount though a cem40 due 4 to 6 more weeks. I do have one item left, a filter but my skies are a bit better at level 4 and if facing south its the gulf of mexico so good skies that way (I live on the coast). Nope, never did that one either. But one time I spent an hour trying to figure out why I couldn't get the PHD2 cam working, then finally realized the lens cap was on the guide scope. We all live and learn :).
Yeah and the Starlink Sh!tshow is going to freaking mess the skies up for everyone into astrophotography unless they spot making so dam reflective. Nice video, as always, respect.
Great videos. Love to get into doing this. Is this scope you use good for all round use or just for imaging. Looking at purchasing a scope for both. Wound this be good for planetary observation and also imaging those? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Awesome shot, Trevor! I'd love to know what you think of the STC filter vs the Triad filters. I'm thinking about going cooled OSC with one of those filters instead of the mono route. Moving from a modded 5DmkII.
I assume that though you move around in your yard, you probably set up in just a few places. Do you have something to mark the positions of your tripod legs? I'm not sure of the best technique but have considered placing small (inches) concrete pads one for each leg then you are pretty close to lined up from the start.
Hey, man! Love the videos! I think if you put the clip at about 8:49 as an intro at the begining or something, you could help viewer retention a lot with new viewers. Keep being awesome!

@English comment passing by I accidentally found myself getting into deep space photography with a tripod and a mirrorless camera. You can do an impressive amount of photography with a Skyguider/Skywatcher tracker and a long photo lens. I bought a cheap 80mm refractor, a Meade adventure scope, and built my own wooden tripod. I'm in $300 for the tracker, $80 for the scope, $100 for some decent eyepieces, and I already had the woodworking skills and a mirrorless camera. Yeah, I get a lot of chromatic aberration, but I've had so much fun, learned so much and am teaching everyone around me. Get yourself a Skywatcher and watch the skies open up!

I leave my scope outside to acclimatise for a couple of hours before use, and I can honestly say I've had no problems with dew. I use Reflectors though. Is this something that really only affects refractors? Brilliant channel by the way, really loving the stuff you put up and cover.

Glad you got the DEC resolved. Great Cave & clear skies, Trevor!
Excellent shot, Trevor. And you only needed 3 hours and 40 minutes. I went over 26 hours on this target last year. I need to stop doing that, lol.
I think the 26 hours worked out pretty well for you Mr. APOD! I should should be taking notes if I ever want the honor myself:) love your shot buddy.
