It really represents that self-hatred really well - the hatred from our older selves to the younger through bitterness and no longer being the appeal, and the younger to the older because the older you get you're disposable and not important, you're disgusting.
Demi didn't trade her spouse for a younger model. She didn't meet Ashton until three years after she broke up with Bruce. She also dealt with feeling insecure about her age while with Ashton (he would chase younger women). I don't see any hypocrisy on Demi's part.

30:38 I literally asked myself this question after rewatching the movie a second time! I think Elisabeth is the prime example of a celebrity that let fame get in their head at a young age, to the point where they lost all the meaningful connections they had with the people that were closest to them before they became famous! It really puts a lot more depth on why she is the way she is, and is always seeking and craving admiration from her fans because that's all she has left in her life! She has no friends and family who'll love her for who she is, because she pushed them all away! As far as they're considered, the people who know the REAL her know her as a narcissist who only cares about herself! Her beauty and fame plays a big part in gaining that attention and love from people, which is why she's so desperate for it because it's the closest thing she has to receive human affection.
It was directed by a woman. It is showing how men view women, the male gaze, and the pressure felt when aging. Demi looks stunning in this movie. I wish I looked that good now.
Educate me, how do women view men?? The female gaze.. From what i've seen women thirst for the like's of Chris Hemsworth way more than they do for Danny Devito..

@gazzisright7362 I don't think it's similar at all. The older and more distinguished men are sought after often. "Silver fox" "dad bod" etc. men aren't told to be sexy they must be young. Even in the film industry (although it's getting better now) you would rarely see a main protagonist woman who was older, but men were casted without much thought as to if people would be attracted to them in the role.

the fact that everything happens in the bathroom, being the place where you expose yourself the most and hiding the bodies there as if it were something shameful, is an incredible metaphor.
The last 30 minutes is what makes the whole movie make sense. It’s the inevitable end of Elisabeth’s behavior driven by need for an audience. Elisasue put the blood on the hands of audience literally.
I've observed that all the male commentators reacted similarly when it came to her invoking the 'Fred' aspect for validation, which is also true for men. When they feel their prime has passed, they often seek out those who valued them in their lives. Several men have attempted this with me, but I've moved on. Both men and women fail to recognize their similarities and differences. In the film, it wasn't just a woman taking The Substance; a man did as well. However, we only see Demi's perspective, influenced by Hollywood's celebrity-focused lens and standards. Everyone struggles with aging and seek validation or pursue youthfulness through plastic surgery and other means. Many people don't recognize that aging is a privilege, as not everyone makes it past 45. My mom passed away at 47, my older brother at 35, my cousin at 32, and a high school friend at 44. I'm content with my aging body and every gray hair because at 45, I'm living life to its fullest. Though my body may feel old, my mind remains youthful, and as long as my boyfriend continues to find me beautiful, even when I'm disheveled, I'm satisfied with that until the end. Thank you for being comical but also understanding the movie, not a lot of the male reactors got the movie so I usually just cut the views short, but I watched your 1:42:01 video.
I dont understand how can you both find so funny the scene at 1:02:35. Ok its just a movie, but still. I dont know man, maybe your laugh explains why we have the world we're living in.
Demi Moore was divorced when she met Ashton through Diddy. Ashton cheated and they divorced. Demi and Bruce remained friends all these years especially now that he has dementia. Tina turner met her younger partner in the 80s, got married in the early 2010s and 'they stayed together' untill the day she died. She had kidney disease and he even donated his kidney before her health further declined. Both women just happen to find love with younger men, that's all. Carrie was a 1976 movie about bullying, supernatural powers (telekinesis) and revenge and the original is the best in my opinion. I think the makers of The Substance did take notes from the bloody prom scene on stage and the chaos that followed.
So why does society make it a big deal when a man dates younger woman? It's not predatory or grooming, it's having preference and men should not be shamed for that

A lot of people reading this movie as a drug/plastic surgery metaphor and the another body thing really shows how limiting that read is. Not to mention how the Substance customer service sounds like an internet customer complaint. Whatever the question, the answer is pointing back to them not being technically responsible.
@@Kevin.Costner. there's alot to the movie. The biggest aspects that stuck out to me was obviously insane beauty standards and hurting your body in the long run trying to achieve short term pleasure, mother/daughter relationships (more subtle but Elizabeth litterally "gives birth" to Sue, Sue makes up the lie about having to take care of her mother every other week, the way Sue steals resources from Elizabeth, ect), I've even seen that this is about bipolar (the mania being Sue vs the depression that is Elizabeth)
Love the reaction! Not every reactor has to go deep and analyze every detail if it's not something they're really into. I love to see raw reactions because it's much more interesting to see how different types of people may have different views on one movie, which further proves why this is such a great movie. Plus, I think the jokes are entertaining, they help you stomach through the movie as it has such a heavy disturbing theme.
I LOVED the ending bc it made it so camp and I love that you think this movie is gonna have a typical dark psychological ending but they’re like nope full gore fest!
You don't need to be making jokes every two minutes it gets boring and it feels that you're not really paying attention to the movie you're seeing. Hope you can fix that thanks!
You have to realize they're watching the movie with a friend AND a chat of people making comments. It doesn't show on the video but they talk about the chat quite a few times. It's not the same experience as watching it by yourself.

This reaction was hilarious! You guys gained a new sub! Now for the film, it’s one of my favorite releases this year. Pure insanity and beautifully shot! I was cracking up at you saying she looked like something out of resident evil and Lisa Trevor came to my mind instantly. 😂
Would love to see a sequel with a man. That storage room had a lot of numbers, and we quickly got a glimpse of a man with the same issues, but it would be cool to see a deep dive in a sequel. Gay men also suffer a lot from beauty standards, not by society but among themselves. The community isn't as inclusive as they make people believe, so a sequel addressing that would be nice, or have a straight couple use the substance together and tackle the relationship angle.
I enjoyed ya’lls reaction a lot!!! You gotta give Montro Elisue props for thuggin it out! LOL It’s of another consciousness from Elisabeth and Sue so that probably explains the determination and not understanding that folks don’t wanna see all dat lol. Sad is that Montro was the only one of them really willing to own up to the original identity/ matrix. I loved this movie. Gross AF though. But beautiful aesthetics, great satire and a poignant commentary of society’s general discard of aging women and the self hate that comes along with it.
Are you guys going to react to more horror/thriller movies? If so, I would like to suggest Fresh (2022) with Sebastian Stan and Daisy Edgar-Jones, Ma (2019) with Octavia Spencer and Nightcrawler (2014) with Jake Gyllenhaal.

The third thing I don’t hear a lot talking about is in the end. We’ve all seen it. The older talent getting work done trying to regain and that work not looking great. The monster at the very end? That’s what that is and that’s what makes the end so sad … in the reaction
1) I don't get why Elizabeth does this because she doesn't seem to experience this as a jumping of bodies but instead as just being replaced for a week or more at a time. At best she seems to exchange some scarce short term memories. 2) You guys mentioned the colors reminding you of Barbie but I kept remembering the hotel in The Shining
For your first point that is because that isn't the point of the moive. She ends up hating who she is more than anything else. She forgets that they are one. The young body we see is still Elisabeth, the behavior change is her breakdown into further self hate. Sue is like a game avatar. She isn't satisfied she starts to see it as being replaced.
I liked your reactions, intelligent and funny. I think some of the people with negative comments have things in their past that make this movie extremely personal, so just take it stride 😊

I love Horror. I love it so much how to categorize the horror that I love body horror , cosmic horror, psychological horror, religious horror.. all of it all… This movie was perfect, gross, gooey, great animatronics and It also made me angry. It’s a take on what people will do to stay youthful. Botox? BBL? Full body lifts?
Same, the part that he is saying that he will never take it (The Substance) is so repetitive i was like "ok dude you will never take it can you stop?" Lol 😂
I still don't get how they were both fully-thinking people later, when the two versions of her were fighting to the death. The whole thing with switching between bodies was she was moving her individual consciousness back and forth between them. They can't both simultaneously be conscious! This seems like lazy writing to me. They're disregarding the rules they've established, what little sense this story had. By the way, I just read the synopsis in the notes of this video and I think they're probably describing a totally different movie.
@@BattleAngelFan99 How is it lazy writing? It's surreal, and doesn't give you a definitive answer, but it's obvious that there was one of two implications: either they were ALWAYS two separate people, or they BECAME two separate people. In either case, it's clearly a metaphor for how we abuse ourselves for failing to live up to the impossibly high beauty standards of society.
I watch a lot of reactions with this movie and they think they are different people 😅 and well i think they are not. I think they are one, Sue is part of Elisabeth so its also her but younger, not her younger self but a younger version of herself (2 of them but same kind of mind). Elisabeth loved herself so much (the proof is the huge pic in her wall) til she wasnt because someone pointed out about her age. The scene Sue killing Elisabeth is a metaphor of hating her ownself and doesnt want to be eliminated in the industry (just like Elisabeth taking the substance to bring a version of herself). I think Sue is more evil and mean because she is younger a variation that must be also with Elisabeth on her prime age
The two versions fighting is symbolism of her self hate. They aren't supposed to both be conscious it was a glitch, they were both still one person. The Elis in Sue's body saw it as her opportunity to be free and it consumed her.
i knew the self hate was real when NEITHER one was really gentle or considerate of the other body when it was unconscious for 7 days. they don’t even give each other a blanket or a pillow it was so sad 😭😭

This is a big year for Demi Moore. Definitely making a comeback. She has this film and she is in a new TV Series created by Taylor Sheridan called Landman that also stars Billy Bob Thornton and Jon Hamm. Landman starts Nov. 17th on Paramount +.
Spinal fluid, ya’ll. The fluid that came from the spine? It’s spinal fluid. & sweetheart on the right, it should go w/o saying but, men have it too lol. The male version would be the same.
I was almost thinking she could have wore like a mask or something when she first started falling apart and just told them that she was having an extreme allergic reaction but still wanted to make an appearance and made it quick and brief
Finally, something to watch for Saturday movie night.
damn shed rather live off another body by watching not even a body swap and slowly eat away inside than appreciate and enjoy, Reminds me a bit of the internet 😯 maybe theres another metaphor im missing
I can also see that too. Too much of it can destroy. The internet can destroy us mentally.
Not since "Dead Alive" have I seen so much blood. Y'all gotta check out a movie called "Society" similar body horror
During one of the most dramatic moments in the movie y’all had to hit us with the “look at you Quasi” 😂😂 that part had me dying
AT LAST WHEN SHE STARTED EMBRACING HER FLAWS. SHE WAS REGARDED A MONSTER
The way you pronounced the directors name reminded me of that key and Peele sketch where Keegan Michael Key is pronouncing all of the students names wrong lol
7:03 'I forgot how sudden that was'.....Isn't this a First Watch Reaction?
''YEs, tHaT'S riGht.'' 🤣🤣🤣 the level of sass in this scene
this movie deserves every possible award that exists
Who is this fool on the right so talkative and annoying
The message: “Take care of yourself”
😚
What a movie. Demi Moore deserves to win an Oscar as Best Actress!
4:25 Uh, he's kind of peeing on the audience in this scene. :D
Getting ready? do you know what you're getting ready for? It's the last days. Didn't they tell you? Dogs rule the world. And only dogs will be here. Have a good night.
This movie is top 20 films released this year period.
1:14:50 You're reaction XD
1:14:57 Like that Lmafo
watched this alone the night of the election to distract myself & boy did it work lmao wanted to see what others thought & so enjoyed your reactions ~ will definitely be watching more of your content 🤭
The third thing I don’t hear a lot talking about is in the end. We’ve all seen it. The older talent getting work done trying to regain and that work not looking great. The monster at the very end? That’s what that is and that’s what makes the end so sad … in the reaction
the director is a woman
54:52 💀💀💀💀😂😂😂😂 Yes that’s right
@brandonrobinson529 ? i'm just correcting them bc they think the director is a man
@@tgabz apologies yes it is a woman who directed and wrote this movie
This was like twilight zone to the extreme level in my personal opinion.
"she officially blew out her own back" im high af readin this 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 im fuckin dead 😂😂😂😂💀
Your comments are sad
The Fast X hat guy is so me i loved it 😂
You guys have had me crying with laughter for over an hour :D
This movie reminded me of stars now like Selena Gomez and her documentary my mind and me
Love your reactions!!
you guys laughing the whole movie was sad
Yup. Men
@@kittylemeu1373 I'm a woman and I laughed at this movie 😂
@456loveluck the whole movie tho? If so, well, women can be stupid and sexist to women too
@@kittylemeu1373 calling them sexist after saying “yup, men” 😂
@UrbanMatts oh nooo🥺
Beauty is pain.
Their reaction for the rest of the film after 1:14:56 🙂↔️✋🏾🙂↔️✋🏾
Love your reactions brother! The comments are funny fr! Subscribed!!
Brother they do not have smart phones in the 80s
hahahaha I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thought of Gremlins
The logo is the split egg yolks.
Can you imagine if a man had made this film in this day and age? Jesus, haha..
medical personnel still uses pagers!
Yall are so wrong for playing the dozens on Elisabeth! lol
I liked your reactions, intelligent and funny. I think some of the people with negative comments have things in their past that make this movie extremely personal, so just take it stride 😊
A LOT of sensitive and triggered people in the comments, agreed.
Are you both full of gadgets in your home? I'm laughing hard when both of you see a flashdrive and completely think its from 80s 😂😂😭😭. Companies in my country still use flashdrive for important files and hospitals still use pagers 😅
1:02:37 “ooh noooo” 💀💀💀💀😂😂😂😂
I love Horror. I love it so much how to categorize the horror that I love body horror , cosmic horror, psychological horror, religious horror.. all of it all… This movie was perfect, gross, gooey, great animatronics and It also made me angry. It’s a take on what people will do to stay youthful. Botox? BBL? Full body lifts?
Alien from Alien Romulus looks more normal than "Elisasue"
"Everything is juicy" 🤣☠️
1:22:34 just spraying them all up!! 💀💀💀💀💀😂😂😂😂😂
is it necessary for the guy on the right to make jokes every 6 seconds? That's so cringe
Same, the part that he is saying that he will never take it (The Substance) is so repetitive i was like "ok dude you will never take it can you stop?" Lol 😂
it’s a reaction video, let the guy react 😭
@@burnerr well he's not fitted in reaction then, he is ann0¥ing
Yeah he's annoying, can't continue watching
@@cjcaday3812 ”not fitted in reaction” aka ”only reactors who react exactly the way I want them to are fit to be reactors” lol
6:32 I think it was The Seventh Sign.
1:01:48 naw, that’s the Hunchback of Notre DAMN!!!! look…
By the way, I just read the synopsis in the notes of this video and I think they're probably describing a totally different movie.
i think the termination severed the connection they had
