    Nicely done. I just picked up the starter box and I'm just learning so this is helpful. Your paint work looks great too. I'm finding painting the figures time consuming...fun...but time consuming. Well done video!

      Thanks for the comment and support, it’s much appreciated 👍🏻 yea, the painting is a bit daunting - I managed it in batches with breaks in between to paint other things to break it up. I think my first practice game was with 4 regiments a side and that worked ok to start off with. Best of luck with it

    number of stands = stamina of unit is a method i use in 6mm scale.. easy to spot on tabletop and still looks great

    I do normal size as 3 stands but two at the front and one behind when in line. Large units still 3 stands but all in one line

    • @Roll-Some-Dice
      @Roll-Some-Dice  Рік тому

      I can see how that would work. Nice one 👍🏻

    You presented that very nicely. You had a steady, clear cadence of speech and it was easy to follow. However, it is a shame that I disagreed with pretty much everything you said. You don't want to see a dissertation on what was wrong but the following pretty much underlines it.
    You point to column of march being better than an attack column with no benefits to the attack column and the column of march being marginally wider? Well by my calculations, any attack column which is two bases wide and can fire is infinitely better than a column of march that can not attack a defensive line. Further if you have four bases in an attack column you get two shots not one, or if you have the lead frontage as two bases you get two shots. Even worse, the column of march is susceptible to flanking fire and has the smallest impact point if it makes it to the enemy line.
    So I get it. Personal preference is key in any game you want to play and enjoy as long as your opponent is happy to comply. Seems to me though that the epic scale was produced to present larger formation actions and on a 6 x 4 table, that is much more possible.

      Hi Carl and thanks for your feedback. The command and morale bonuses for being in assault column set out in the Black Powder core rules are not applied in ACW games (Warlord Games rules not mine!) and you do only get one shooting dice, so for me, it’s not as useful compared to say using it in Napoleonic games, but I’m certainly an advocate of using whatever works for you, your set up and preferences. I do also acknowledge that you can be vulnerable in March column, so I tend to use it sparingly! but appreciate you taking the time to comment 😎

    Very nice channel on epic ACW, explains well the reasons for 3 bases. Also the first I've seen to discuss the cavalry. How do you base the dismounted cavalry? As per Warlord or do you thin them out a bit as well?

      Thanks for the comment Matthew, much appreciated. I talk about the dismounted Cavalry in this video ua-cam.com/video/02OdwHdJjHk/v-deo.html but, I basically use 6 models per base - I had the metal ones which were in pairs, so three pairs per base. Hope that helps

    I just "caved in" and decided to go for a Confederate army. Was looking on tips on organizing, basing etc. and came across your video. Giving a standard regiment only 3 stands sounds reasonable and sensible, but don't you end up with quite a few "unused" stands? May I ask what you did with those?

    • @Roll-Some-Dice
      @Roll-Some-Dice  Рік тому

      Hey there and thanks for commenting. Simple answer, you end up with left over stands and bases. I don’t mind as over time I will purchase some command stands and then build some more regiments etc. I guess it depends how you feel about that etc . Best of luck with your project 👍🏻👍🏻

      Thanks Markuz, not sure yet as I’ve got a large 28mm Napoleonic collection and still got more to do for the Epic American Civil War - perhaps later in the year as I am enjoying playing at this smaller scale
