while working as a security officer, i was always fascinated by 'crime' and who is most likely to indulge in criminal acts. I remember asking shoplifters why they did it and trying to understand their motivations and value systems, and seeing if this played a part in why they chose to commit crime. i am now studying a criminology qualification this year.
Thank you for this, you've been very helpful! Sirens were hilarious in the end! Question: While you're writing the dissertation, are you given any homework during that time, or are you supposed to focus on the dissertation? And is it just one per year? Thanks
I keep seeing Criminal Justice / Criminology, I think they are different, are they./ Because criminology focuses on crime mainly and the theoretical perspectives but criminal justice looks at law, humanities , criminology etc. What do you plan to do career wise with a criminology major
@@elizabeth-7064 While criminal justice studies the law enforcement system and operations, criminology focuses on the sociological and psychological behaviors of criminals to determine why they commit crimes. While there is some overlap between parts of criminal justice and criminology, they are separate fields with distinct goals: Criminal justice focuses on the prevention, prosecution, and punishment for crime. Criminology studies the causes and effects of crime, socially and individually.
wow! I study criminal justice. We have something similar in common. They don't have criminology schools in Denver so I had to go with criminal justice. But yeah it's a research job, it's way cooler then a lawyer. People see lawyer it's way to common, but if they see criminal psychologist, or criminology on a resume they see an expert in the field of criminal study. Once i'm done with that I will try psychology though because its better then the forensics part of it, with dead bodies. Some people do it but you have to have a strong stomach for it. That wouldn't be my pick either. Maybe a victims advocate to start while i'm studying psychology in boulder. That would be an ultimate goal for me. ;) Keep studying it's a fun field. You get paid really good just to study motives and interview people in court. It's way cool because people are always eager to hear the research people found. More people should study it.
I've only touched on Criminology with a unit in my Forensic Science course at college. I enjoyed doing the unit, since it's only at level 3. But I definitely don't feel I could do it at university. I love my Chemistry/Biology more.
Yes. I myself is a Criminology student with an incredibly terrible study habbits. I have applied as an Officer at our CJS Program and results are terrible for me. I have failed 2 of my subjects and I tell you... this ain't an easy course. So here's a tip. Whatever course your taking, like Nursing or Education. You could still apply of being a Police officer after passing the board exam and have better ranks than a criminology student graduate.
I met a criminologist today! His names professor David Wilson, him and his team were talking about a book my grandad wrote on two girls who were killed, and they think the man who killed the two girls killed a lot more too!
So I'm a foreigner and I want to study it in England. Do you have any advice where are the best colleges? And what do they think about people from different countries? Cause I traveled a lot in high school for like exange programs and many times people judged foreigners cause they were strangers.
I am now doing criminology and criminal justice but I am afraid of this experience cos I done my diploma HE education and then go to this criminology I am worried about it but it's look like something interested working with police 😍
Bit late, but thanks for making this video. How are things tracking for you? I'm currently in an undergrad' double-degree of Criminology and Psychology, and trying to decide what to specialise in when I get to masters in 2020. I went into it being primarily interested in Psychology, but through the study, I've found I'm far more interested in Criminology. In saying that, 2nd and 3rd-Yr Psych' units look way more interesting (personality, psychopathology, etc). Time will tell... hopefully.
I know you posted this awhile ago but I guess I'm another person looking for advice. I will be entering my first year of post-secondary in the fall and I'm spending a year earning a Criminal and Social Justice Certificate at a college then transferring to a University for a Bachelors in Criminology. My question is can I work my way up to a detective with this path or should I get a Masters in order to do that?
I really want to study criminology but am worried about how much maths and biology are in the course as I tend to love more of the philosophy plus legal side. If I hate maths and don’t particularly enjoy biology do you reckon this will be a problem?
I want to understand what is criminology? Why do we commit a crime ? Is that related to our psychology ? Can where we live affect us? Can we inherit the crime ? I'm somebody who hates violence and any avoid all sort of harm. But the problem is that I live in society full of violence and crime, they're the rule pricesely the first one. I ask my self how can I avoid all the sort of violence that I see and I was its subject. Yes, I witnessed a lot of violence in the school and the problem that those who did those acts are now adults and they're more violente than they were. I think that crime is an addiction. There're people who can't stop from doing crimes as they're the ones who can't stop from eating and other addiction. Do you think that is related to addiction?
I don't know why but recently I've been really interested in crimiology and was asking all my friends if they want to go to uni and what they want to study but i'm only in year 8 and i still have MANY years left 😂
Hi I'm currently waiting for my application to university of Liverpool in criminology. Coming from an engineering background, do you think it's a good idea to try criminology? I have an interest in becoming a fbi or csi somewhere along the lines and will this program teach me to become one?
Doing a degree is quite a big decision so it's probably a big change between engineering and criminology (not that I want to put you off!). I would say that if you are interested in the fbi/csi then forensic science might be more suited to that than criminology, it might depend on what areas you want to focus on, but I would suggest researching into it and looking into fbi/csi jobs to see what qualifications, experience etc. it requires as that might give you an idea as to what degree to do. I hope that makes sense :)

Im currently studying criminology and I just wanted to know what you'd go into, as in a career choice, if you aren't interested in social work, probation or any of the rest? please reply
Raheem Bilal you can literally go into anything, a lot of companies want people with different degrees to create a diverse atmosphere, so don’t fear if you don’t like the jobs that are related to your course !
Joselyn Marquez Ramirez it depends on what you do. Going to any university no matter what you intend to make your bachelors/majors degree on, the first two years you will have to take required courses such as the basic math, science, language arts, history etc. and then the last two years will be spent focusing solely on your career path and degree's courses, and while there's a bit of math in everything, unless you intend to pursue a career in criminology that is specifically focused on the mathematical aspects of crime, then you will pretty much have to do little to no math in criminology courses.
Joselyn Marquez Ramirez you will need it for quantitative research methods. Some form of statistics for social sciences are mandatory at most universities.
I'm 16 and want to become a police detective so I'm either going to study Phycology or criminology can someone give me some input and tell me what's the best route if you know
From the course that I did, I would say criminology would be better suited for a police detective role, it includes a focus on police but there are also psychology modules, however forensic studies could also be a option.
Good evening ma'am I have question for you to answer. Bcoz my teacher asking me that what do you think is the reason why we conduct special crime investigation?

Hiya I’m really considering a Criminology degree in the future . What A-levels did you take or which key ones would you recommend in order for me to be able to take criminology in the future?
hey i'm not sure if you're going to see this comment but i'm currently at my first year of A level, i'm studying history and sociology. so i was wondering if i study criminology in university can i get job linking with being a prosecutor?

Hey just wondering what did you end up picking? I'm split between forensics and criminology. I'm starting chemistry this semester to see if I can handle it but if not I'm just going to criminology.
Any pointers for an a level student beginning a criminology course in Warwick the following month..? Also how are the lessons structured? And type of laptop? Small zenbook sufficient, or larger more powerful laptop required.. All help appreciated, Extremely nervous!!!!
The first thing I would say is don't worry about it! University is very different from school or college. I presume lectures are probably slightly different at each uni but I had 4 lectures a week which were 3 hours long, although most didn't last the full 3 hours. There's also a range of lectures which includes the entire class or seminars which are usually much smaller groups, it depends on the university/course. Any laptop is fine I wouldn't say any laptop is better for uni, as long as you're able to do your work on it or whatever and you're able to take it to class then there's no issue. In my class the majority of people wrote notes by hand however some used laptops or tablets, so it's just personal preference. My lecturers posted the lecture/seminar slides online so taking word-for-word detailed notes wasn't hugely necessary. You'll get the chance to give more opinions and be more involved compared to school/college but it's definitely not so formal. Just remember that everyone there is in exactly the same position as you so if you go there being positive, friendly and interested then that's great. It's something that takes a bit of getting used to but uni is definitely the kind of experience that you should make the most of. Hopefully that might help! Good luck! :)
do you need an a level in law to study criminology at university? my dream is to become a detective but i went through a really hard time last year and wasn’t able to study law at a level. i study english language, literature and ict and i really want to study criminology after sixth form. please can someone let me know as soon as possible :)
i'm doing my GCSE's in 2 months and then i would like to study History, English Language and Sociology for A level. After that I'm thinking of studying criminology at university but i don't want to end up working as part of police. Any suggestions on any other potential jobs criminology could land me? Thank you so much!
It is an actual job, along with Forensic Psychology and Criminal psychology (these are two jobs extremely similar to criminology) however getting jobs in places with the degree can be extremely hard for eg the uk doesn’t really offer jobs pertaining to criminology and criminal psychology so your best bet is the Us
Ruth A Thankyou so much this really helped me out a lot. I’m struggling atm to figure out where and when to study criminology. I’m from England but really want to have a career in Criminology so as you said I may look for it in the US
Ruth A i would absolutely love to get into criminal psychology or maybe something like crime scene investigation as those sorts of things are really interesting to me but of course as you said England isn’t necessarily the best place to do that so I will probably have to start looking into possibly studying in a country better suited to what I want to do, but I guess the money aspect will be the most challenging thing about that as I would need to find a place that would cover a student loan for overseas university fees which is difficult in itself😂and yeah I do like England too but it’s a lot harder to appreciate when you are from here as everything is just normal to you
I’m 14 and will take my gcse in 2 years I am thinking about what to do and criminology appeals to me and I would love to study it. What would I take for my gcse if I wanted to do this ?
I find it interesting when you say the Innocence Project is not to prove the person's innocence but rather to find if there is a miscarriage of justice. Sounds more like people trying to get a convicted criminal released by maneuvering through a legal loophole. If they are truly innocent then release them, but if they did the crime they should do the time.
I'm in high school but very interested in studying criminology. I was wondering what kind of career options they give you or if they give classes for a specific career?
I've personally found the suggested career options to be fairly limited, I would say it's best to do your own research and see what kind of jobs/careers are out there. The suggested career options are usually police, probation, social work, prisons but there are so many other options out there. It's quite surprising what jobs/career paths exist, it just takes some effort finding it, for example looking at job websites or researching into companies. During school, college and uni I never received classes about specific careers, it's normally more that we have to research the information ourselves, although at college/uni there were more talks/events about careers. But that's all my own personal experience, it could be different for others. I would definitely suggest doing some research and thinking outside of the box as you might be surprised as to what career/job could interest you :)
Hi. I'd like to study criminology but not sure if I'd like it. Are there any mini courses online or taster courses on criminology before I do a degree?
so, I completed a bachelor's degree in sociology and psychology and am currently attending law school. Although I was very interested in law the first month of university, I started getting very bored and uncertain about whether I wanted to complete a degree in law, and whether I would learn to love law in the long run. Since I already have my degree in sociology and have enjoyed the few crime classes that I took, I was wondering if I should quit law school and do an MA in criminology. I feel bad for turning down LAW SCHOOL but I'm also not that much into it anymore. What do you think, what should i do?
sorry for the really late response! I would say your decision should be based upon your potential career choice. Technically it's 'easier' to become a lawyer if you already have a law degree than if you don't - if you had a sociology/criminology degree and wanted to become a lawyer then I think you have to do a conversion course which means more money & work before being able to become a lawyer. Also the contents of a criminology MA and a law degree is quite different so again it depends on what interests you more. I understand getting into law school is a massive achievement and it can't be an easy decision to make, and obviously changing degree would cost more money and time, but I think overall it depends on where you want to go in the future and what interests you the most. Good luck :)
As long as you have the grade that's needed for the postgraduate then yes. Other postgraduate degrees might need to have specific undergraduate degrees though.
late comment but I didn't require the grades as expected but still have another year to gain them but did you do any work experience? anything outwith school that helped when applying to uni to study criminology?
If you have another year to get the grades you need then who's to say you won't get them, grades can change a lot within a year so if you focus on achieving what you want/need then that's the best. I did some work experience at a law court; I would say it helps when applying to uni in that it shows you have interest, and that you've actually gone out and got 'experience' in that field rather than just learning from a book (if that makes sense), and it will look good on your UCAS form/CV. I'm not 100% sure if having work experience means you're more likely to be offered a place or not, it might do but I presume it depends on the uni, however I'm not sure so I may not be correct, but having work experience definitely isn't a bad thing. I hope that might help! Good luck! :)
Hello. I want to study sociology and criminology at uni but I'm unsure because there aren't many jobs? Are you currently employed due to your degree? And how long has it been since you graduated
Don't let the prospect of there not being many jobs put you off studying a degree, especially if you study sociology and criminology I would expect that gives you a wider/broader option of jobs. I don't feel like I can comment on how many jobs there are but I think you would be able to find some form of job related to your degree. I think when you first come out of uni and into employment it's good to remember that you're not necessarily going straight into a lifelong career at a high level (if that makes sense), even with a degree you may still have to stay with a slightly more 'basic' job to build experience. The job that I have is within the Criminal Justice System so my degree is being used but the job could be obtained without a degree, but I'm using the job as a starting point to gain experience so my degree will be useful in the future. I actually only graduated last week, although I finished uni in May. The job hunting process is not always easy, it can take quite a long time if you want a job linked to the degree as those jobs may not come around so often, also some jobs in the Criminal Justice System may have long processes of background checks. Sorry for writing an essay! I hope that might help you :)

nuria hussain criminology can open many doors for careers often paired with another course it depends on the college for what subjects (mine doesn’t have any set subjects needed just a certain amount of points)
thank you so much for posting this. 💕
Hi it's been 1 year since you have uploaded this video so can you tell me what you do now like what job you do and how is it
I'll see
Hola World In her new Q&A video she discussed what job she is currently doing. If you’re still not sure you can check her new video out; but she’s currently doing Office Administration/Office Work. She talks about the fact that she’s been working in this job for three years.
Hey !! Greetings from Costa Rica . I've just watch your video and i like it . I'm studying criminology in my country and for me it's pretty interesting . Take care . bye !! ))
while working as a security officer, i was always fascinated by 'crime' and who is most likely to indulge in criminal acts. I remember asking shoplifters why they did it and trying to understand their motivations and value systems, and seeing if this played a part in why they chose to commit crime. i am now studying a criminology qualification this year.
How's it going so far?
You should do a video of your day and the classes. Im so interested!
my thing is, I would love to study criminology but what careers can you do? that doesn't require you to be a police officer (detective)?
I want to study criminology because I find it so interesting but I also want to be a lawyer... I don't know what to do
SAME!!!! I don't know what path to choose.):
You can do a joint honours degree in Law and Criminology
I didn't pick law because of civil law either! Criminal law yes, civil law WHAT A BORE!
Great video! This really helped thanks 😊
Thank you for this Eden
Thank you for this, you've been very helpful! Sirens were hilarious in the end! Question: While you're writing the dissertation, are you given any homework during that time, or are you supposed to focus on the dissertation? And is it just one per year? Thanks
The University of Winchester is actually where I'm thinking of going for my Criminology degree! What do/did you think of it?
Your so pretty😍 and I love your glasses💖
Thanks you
Wow,I bet I'll be more attentive if your my criminology professor
Check out east london university. Its very diverse and friendly .they also allow you to study some courses long distance.
@@jemma709 Cool. Thanks :)
@Veleada Thank you :)
I am now doing criminology and criminal justice but I am afraid of this experience cos I done my diploma HE education and then go to this criminology I am worried about it but it's look like something interested working with police 😍
At my Uni, Criminology is only offered as a minor, but it is still worth studying.
Thanks for this video really helpful indeed 👍
Very helpful thank you!!
Thank you for your video, its very helpful.
Time will tell... hopefully.
thanks for sharing your experience

hi I am 18 and I'm from Malaysia. I love criminology, I'd like to ask what are the alevels subject I have to take to pursue degree in criminology.
Great video! btw which Alevels did u study?
Please do a video on profiling or cyber crime or your experience or practicals doing them
I know you posted this awhile ago but I guess I'm another person looking for advice. I will be entering my first year of post-secondary in the fall and I'm spending a year earning a Criminal and Social Justice Certificate at a college then transferring to a University for a Bachelors in Criminology. My question is can I work my way up to a detective with this path or should I get a Masters in order to do that?
Just decided I am taking up criminology and forensics and see what aspect fascinates me, I want to do what I love, and find a way to get paid for it
I did crime and deviance in sociology at gcse and I might be doing criminology when I go uni. I don’t know yet🤷🏻♀️
Ellie Basworth did sociology at a level and loved the crime and deviance section so I’m doing it at uni now
great i loved your all data just wanna know about what kinda theory u will suggest for the inocent project
I really want to study criminology but am worried about how much maths and biology are in the course as I tend to love more of the philosophy plus legal side. If I hate maths and don’t particularly enjoy biology do you reckon this will be a problem?
Following
did i just watch this because my crush wants to be a criminologist? yes
THANK YOUU❤
Eden's Paradise one more question, what are the job prospects of doing criminology? Beside the one that I listed since its leaning more towards science
nice poster!
how many years of study in criminology?
the college that i got accepted into only has criminal justice and doesnt have criminology... so im waiting for the other college that i applied to to accept me bc it actually has criminology
Very helpful thank you x
Is there any difference between criminal justice major and a criminology major? I want to become a cop and want to know which one I should major in when I go to college.. my dream college has criminology but not criminal justice
You look like Taylor swift 😍
i want to study criminology (+ a bit of psychology) at uni so i could hopefully work at the NCA as a crime analyst but boi...are criminology courses mainly about policing ?? i ain’t finna be running around in a police uniform anytime soon which is why im kind of doubting whether i should study criminology or nah🙃 + what uni do you go to?x
orphicual
Im interested as well
Im currently studying criminology and I just wanted to know what you'd go into, as in a career choice, if you aren't interested in social work, probation or any of the rest? please reply
Raheem Bilal you can literally go into anything, a lot of companies want people with different degrees to create a diverse atmosphere, so don’t fear if you don’t like the jobs that are related to your course !
Georgia Salvin 🤔🤔
I have a huge question and I hope you see his comment....Do you need math in criminology? I am horrible at math
Blueuniverse 67 what kind of math?
Liv Peters thanks I understand I bit more now
Joselyn Marquez Ramirez statistics.
I'm 16 and want to become a police detective so I'm either going to study Phycology or criminology can someone give me some input and tell me what's the best route if you know
***** Thank you so much, ill definitely consider your input :)
From the course that I did, I would say criminology would be better suited for a police detective role, it includes a focus on police but there are also psychology modules, however forensic studies could also be a option.
do criminal investigation at uclan or bradford
Good evening ma'am I have question for you to answer. Bcoz my teacher asking me that what do you think is the reason why we conduct special crime investigation?
Hey I’ve just done my GCSEs and I’m going to college but I’m wondering what courses to do I want to do biology, psychology, and sociology or law I’m more interested in sociology but I’m not sure if I should choose law as I also want to do criminology at uni. And if I chose sociology instead of law would it be a bad decision as I defo want to do criminology. It would be great if u can help me out.❤️
ASHA speak to a career advisor x
I really want to learn about criminology x
what subjects should I be good at for being a detective? please i really want to be one in the future, but im not good in math and things like that, so what subjects should i give more attention?
Im interested in being in the law enforcement im looking at criminology, lawyers and policing.. im doing my research on criminology currently. What is it they really do tho?
Hiya I’m really considering a Criminology degree in the future . What A-levels did you take or which key ones would you recommend in order for me to be able to take criminology in the future?
hey i'm not sure if you're going to see this comment but i'm currently at my first year of A level, i'm studying history and sociology. so i was wondering if i study criminology in university can i get job linking with being a prosecutor?
Do you know what jobs you can get with a criminology course as I am in the process of finalising my a level choices I have picked geography biology psychology and am unsure of what other option to pick so I am looking for degrees that could help me choose I am thinking of forensics but I feel it it's too science full of me, so I am unsure xx
Hey just wondering what did you end up picking? I'm split between forensics and criminology. I'm starting chemistry this semester to see if I can handle it but if not I'm just going to criminology.
Thank you 😊
Any pointers for an a level student beginning a criminology course in Warwick the following month..?
So I have always wondered this: is being a criminologist an actual job? Or are there careers similar to it?
It is an actual job, along with Forensic Psychology and Criminal psychology (these are two jobs extremely similar to criminology) however getting jobs in places with the degree can be extremely hard for eg the uk doesn’t really offer jobs pertaining to criminology and criminal psychology so your best bet is the Us
Ruth A Thankyou so much this really helped me out a lot. I’m struggling atm to figure out where and when to study criminology. I’m from England but really want to have a career in Criminology so as you said I may look for it in the US
Ruth A i would absolutely love to get into criminal psychology or maybe something like crime scene investigation as those sorts of things are really interesting to me but of course as you said England isn’t necessarily the best place to do that so I will probably have to start looking into possibly studying in a country better suited to what I want to do, but I guess the money aspect will be the most challenging thing about that as I would need to find a place that would cover a student loan for overseas university fees which is difficult in itself😂and yeah I do like England too but it’s a lot harder to appreciate when you are from here as everything is just normal to you
So what job are you interested in with this course?
Should you know about a subject first before doing criminology?
I’m gonna be doing a BCs (Hons) in policing & criminology
Can you become a detective with a criminology degree?
eamonn kiely Yes, it’s one of the best degrees to have if you want to be a detective
dogs r thats good because i always wanted to become a detective and im starting college as a criminology major in the fall
so, I completed a bachelor's degree in sociology and psychology and am currently attending law school.
Mam, I've completed my under graduate in "Management studies". Now, can i study criminology as my post graduate ?
So i really wanna be a criminal profilier. Do u think i should major in criminolgy and minor in psychology? Or major in psychology and minor in forensics? Theres not much info about profiling, so i wanted to get ur opinion. Thanks :)
¿Isn't criminology part of the subjects of studie for law?
Yes, it is. Im currently studying a bachelor of law and criminology is one of the units.
while studying, will you experience some tortures in PE or somethings like being in army 😅 just asking because I'm afraid and not physically fit. pls reply
