- The performance figures, specification and price don't sound like they come from the same car...and certainly not a Kia ! The new Stinger is a game changer for Kia. Mega sporty looks, stunning performance from a 3.3L Twin Turbo V6 producing 365bhp and all for less than £41,000 ! Oh, and don't forget the 7 year 100,000 mile warranty !
So where is the catch ? Well thanks to Kia Portsmouth and Kia UK I got the opportunity to put this new super saloon through it's paces and boy is it impressive. The big question is could it be a match for the big German brands like BMW, Audi and Mercedes ?

Fantastic review as always Peter. I actually had one of these this week as a hire car for 24h (the 2l GT line car) and I could not believe how good it was. With the 2l engine the traction is very secure and the ride / handling balance was as good as in my v10 m6 I owned 10 years ago (and that was very, very good). My only niggle was that in the GT line spec the kit level was superb, save for the halogen lights which was a little annoying. Having said this I have resolved I will buy one because the value proposition for £32k is outstanding and the refinement levels I observed were superb. On another note we need to get you to over 100k subscribers because your reviews are so good for the ordinary enthusiastic motorist - most motoring journalists are constantly driving metal that we can never even dream of driving and their perceptions are calibrated accordingly and not relevant to us. You always provide realistic down to earth reviews that relate to how actually interact with cars as our only vehicle to perform a multitude of tasks. Bravo and please don’t change your approach!

Thanks Peter, great review. What a fantastic car, and I would definitely have one over the dreary Bimmers, Mercs and Audi's you see everywhere. That yellow one in the showroom is mega cool and I love the red leather seats in the one you drove. It has a great name too!! :) Some people are worried about depreciation on this car, but it would be worth buying a brand new one and keeping for at least 7 years whilst the warranty is still in force.
Lots of people are saying it will have high depreciation yet I don't know a BMW owner that hasn't been clobbered by that. Even if it lost half it's value in the first 3 years that will be less financially than an M3 !

Good video! I have the same car for a year now, but with diesel engine and when i put the sport mode on its a wery happy car! Had Audis2 before, 320 hp! When i was young i had -71 Dodge Challenger! :)

Very impressive Peter. I’ll admit to being a bit of a brand snob, but, wow, Kia really are putting the effort in. Tests impressive and I think they deserve the succession sure they’ll get.

Great vid. Thanks. I don't know the var at all, currently in an Sportbreak, but I am thinking of practicality. Is it a hatchback and do the seats fold. Having that with the performance and no RS4 price tag would be interesting.
Great review. How about a review on the top spec 2 litre turbo model? Just about every review seems to be the 3.3 litre model. The 2 litre is what I'd buy myself. I have no qualms about the KIA badge.

Bought a GT-2 AWD 3.3L last April - having lusted after one since 2017 after a testdrive (but couldn't settle on price). In 57 years it's only the second vehicle I've owned that I always turn around to look back at after I've parked it. I get comments, compliments and questions from people quite often...it's a head-turner. Love the performance and styling - has all the tech and toys. One aspect that no reviewer ever mentions is the insurance. Our insurance company didn't jack our insurance premiums like they would on a MustangGT or other two-door performance sports car - since it's considered a 4-door 'grand touring' model. I was pleasantly surprised - anticipating a heftly premium increase. So Kia slid this one past the insurance rip-off artists. Great review (albeit a few years old).

Looks a lot of fun and a great effort. I’ve noticed recently the Koreans are really getting their act together - there’s Hyundai with the i30 N which is getting great reviews as a Golf GTi alternative. The approach is admirable too - very little is optional unlike the German brands in particular, who certainly know how to tempt buyers and charge accordingly. I guess resale value and fuel consumption may be the only question marks if you can see beyond the badge. Actually this could be seen as a positive. Good review as always Peter, so another thumbs up from me!

Just bought one. Got a "facelift" nearly new version with a flat screen MMI. After two drives I was hooked. For the options you get, the engine, your talking at least £15K less. But more than that, the quality of everything was such a good surprise. Even the MMI screen was nice to touch and very responsive. Everything feels as good as the germans. Add the RWD drive fun, I'm itching to get the paperwork done and take my red beauty home. It was a total shocker. I'm going top have to swap litres of alcohol for petrol though......worth it.
Also, considering this is a 3.3ltr V6 there is STILL room in the engine bay.
I didn't know there was a facelfit ?
@@UnderWarranty TBO calling it a facelift is overdoing it. I think all they changed was the screen.
@@invisiblekid99 Ah yeah i just seen pics now, much better screen. Seems on auto trader some 2019 versions have the old screen. Must bee late 2019 when they was added. Buying second hand is the way to go with these cars.

Great review Pete. Other mainstream OEM’s should take note of Kia’s approach to warranty length and std options fitted. This seems good value but would I change to one from my current cars. Not yet I’m afraid but if they keep building cars like this who knows!!!!!!
Keeping everything standard is one of the ways they are able to manage the price. It's cheaper to give everyone everything than let people choose. Spoken as an ex Manufacturing Systems Engineer ;-)

Nice!!!! drivers motor i grew on rear wheel drive front wheel was just comin out but they were rot boxes at that time but yeah an Awesome car for the big boys to play out in love the style and all that leather and the seats look just right and KIA have just hit that class market at a very afordable price tag i also think its going to take a big lump of the high performance market over the next few years.
I do like theses. Would get rid of that silver trim for me . Shame you didn't get the yellow one to test. Only ever seen the Red ones on test. Also one of the best names for a car 👍
All the launch cars seem to be in that red. I'd have it in yellow too !
Kia employed senior Audi designer and BMW M Sport guy and it shows. Great looking car.
Great review Peter . Big issue as mentioned is when you are at the golf club or pub and you are with your 3 German prestige car owners and you slap a Kia keyring on the bar. This wouldnt bother me but im not your target market.

Nice review. I just bought one in Ghost Grey, my favorite color of the bunch. Had it now for 1 week in Canada spec so its AWD but puts 80% to rear when in sport. Have winter wheels on right now, which look nice in black spoke but can't wait to throw on the summer wheels, staggered profiles and light it up a bit more soon. More traction than you can believe with the AWD and grip in winter driving (some ice here and there) but every once in a while you throw the back end out for fun when desired. This car lives up to the hype, I researched many months and no need to spend extra 30K CAD for some premium brand. This out performs those in any case. Love the car. Just got to say anyone that is looking for something in this range, test one, you'll probably own it. Cheers!

Hi Peter, I do think this is a great care for £40k as long as your not a badge snob and just not able stretch yourself into an Audi, BMW, Mercedes, but I cant fault this car for the price the seats and dash looks just great. When you talk about brand look at skoda in the 80's and look at them now the is so many on the road but they are not cheap you can tell VW build the car so I agree with you people need to be a bit more open minded and don,t pass up the opportunity to test drive this car. well as ever Peter a great video and Best Wishes Alan B
Hi Alan. I said exactly the same thing in response to someone else's comment about the brand. Skoda used to be the but of many jokes but know they are seen as a quality brand. Kia aren't too far from that !
Not sure it is only for people who cannot afford an Audi, Merc or BMW. I can afford those cars and went with the Stinger. Until you get to the special end of those brands, purely my opinion, but they make some of the most overrated cars on the road. Had an Alfa Giulia before this, and again none of the German brands could match the way that it drove. It’s a subjective point which cars we all prefer, but I am not alone in thinking that Audi, Merc and BMW are still selling cars based upon a perception of quality built up from years of making quality reliable cars. This has greatly slipped. They give virtually no kit (so can reduce price slightly so people don’t feel like getting ripped off - then you add it back on because you need options if don’t want a car full of awful looking dummy buttons) and polish over the underlying reliability issues with some nice interior materials. Incredible that people fall for this rather than stop buying them until they put the same effort into reliability as Japan and Korea. I have bought Audi and Merc in the past, but unless something significant changes I will never again.
Great job on your review! I cross-shopped an Audi A5 Sprortback and an Infiniti Q50; test drove the Stinger GT three times... then bought the Stinger GT2 AWD 3 days ago. You could have spent more time talking about the true gran turismo aspects of the car, but that's quibbling. Of all of the reviews I've seen, this review is the most reflective of my thoughts and experiences with the car. It DOES compare favorably to those BMW's, Audi's and Mercedes in it's class. For the quality, comfort, power and handling of this car (not to mention the piece of mind of the warranty), this car is probably the steal of the decade.
Always hard to get the balance right but really glad I was on point with my other comments. They are very impressive cars and I think the secret is, drive one before you criticise them !!

I got some footage off it. The footage of me in the car at the beginning were taken with it. Sadly the actual footage of it falling off was corrupted otherwise I would have put it in the film ;-)

And yet even in 2019 I’ve yet to see one OTR in the UK. If I had the money I would buy one but I really think Kia should advertise this great car more.

I've got one and only seen one other getting fuel at Costco, and what would have been a great moment was ruined by the fact I saw it was the diesel version. Blurgh, yawn, why bother in a car like this?
When they arrived here in the US, stopped by the KIA dealer, sales people were woefully uninformed, insisted I could not get the GT2 version in RWD (which was wrong). Disappointed that interior colors were very limited. Rearward visibility was hampered by fastback roofline and smallish window.
Don't want the $9 K worth of electronic trickery which raise the sticker to $52 K US (GT2 AWD). Car is larger/heavier than I would like, waiting to see what the Genesis G70 has to offer.

Hello Pete, Really enjoyed your video that was a great review i really like this car, I noticed it had Red Interior Trim with a Red Exterior Paint which they say at Kia Dealers here in Australia is a Unavailable combination, so my question is Was That a Special Order or can that be Speced in the UK like that.

This is one of the standard uk configurations John. Most of the launch units came in this spec.

A great review Pete and a car that seems hard to dislike! But being a great car doesn’t mean it will fly out the showroom!
I would still be terrified of the depreciation! Is one to watch but not dip your toe in for a few years!
Saying that Kia warranties are transferable and I suspect when the 3 and 4 year old used models hit the market with their remaining warranty they could be a absolute bargain!
I also see Kia are following the latest trends (which I totally hate) of naming lesser models GT’s
I think Car manufactures really discredit their own sports models with ST line, Msport, Amg, and others covered in badges with nice wheels and a extra spoiler!
Maybe it’s me out of date but as a example a 1.0 focus shouldn’t have a ST badge anywhere near it! 😡👍🏻
Mate...I totally agree with you on the badging thing ! I am pretty sure it was Audi that started it with S Line. It devalues the premium trim models :-(

Nice video Peter. Looks like you get a lot of bang for your buck and of course the warranty is I have to say class leading . Contender against the likes of Audi and BMW, maybe sometime in the future, but lets face it with a lot of people its all about the badge.
Yep, that will be this cars biggest challenge. It drives as well as any BMW or Merc !
...just change out all those badges for the OEM Korean Stinger badges...check them all out on UA-cam...including the stunning maserati inspired 14-inch stinger chrome script logo across the rear trunk, along with the KDM version E stinger badges...
I drove a Kia Rio and hated it... but this could change my mind. Looks great, goes great.

Great review. There's no doubt that it's a stunning and well equipped car but I just couldn't see me totally loving the interior ie materials/quality but as you said theres a brand snobbery and I admit I am just as guilty of it but there just something about the Stinger!!!

Nice job Ped, excellent music by the way! For me, errr no, I will go and have a look at them. Bur it's not quiet there, the exhaust is too quiet for the power and that will put off petrol heads. The 7 year 100k warranty is excellent though. Maybe a different colour. Just had a look at their website and they do some other colours which I think will suit it better. But I would imagine on a PCP vs an S4 or C43AMG then it will be cheaper. Good for you getting the rear end out as well!
I'd go for the yellow ! I have no idea what the residual value would be as that would effect the PCP monthlies. This car would be amazing at donuts !!!
Just seen one in Yellow on my way back, made me look twice! It looked mint to be honest....
The Stinger is a fantastic car. One problem is pricing though, KIA prices don't appear to have the huge margins of European premium cars and discounts are smaller. The result is that although the Stinger is great value based on SRP the actual price may be higher than German rivals which are more expensive on paper. I got £12,500 off the price of my Audi A6 for example.

So, back again. As always excellent review Peter, I “get it”. Has lots of bells & whistles, drives well (once you get used to it), not overwhelmed by the styling, those mirror caps - yuk. Nice quality interior surfaces, the “usual” plastic dash that seems to be the downfall across the brand. Personally, I wouldn’t see myself as being a first owner, it’ll be interesting to see how much depreciation by the end of year one. The big German brands have a pedigree that’s been earned over many years. Maybe this will be KIA’s game changer, hard to say. Finally, not a fan of the name Stinger, as for the alphabet badge ? I could probably live with that, but to be honest I’ve done that once before (changed from BMW/MINI) & regretted it afterwards. Oops, nearly forgot, sorry you lost your camera.

Hi Geof. I think this cars biggest problem is the brand. If you were able to do a blind drive test (LOL - that would be funny !) I think you would struggle to tell the difference between this and a BMW ;-)
What a great looking car!
My real concern on this car would be its residual value, but with the amazing warranty on hand maybe you would be inclined to keep it, I don't know, tough choice, this car for life or a second hand Audi every two years? I do know the camera going all kamikaze made you forget to mention the TC going in to off mode on Splus hence the little edit, I really enjoyed this one, big thumbs up from me and Kia I suspect

It's amazing how so many people harp on about how it will depreciate as if no other manufacturer suffers the same fate. Even for the slower depreciating manufacturers residuals of 40%+ at 3 years old are incredibly rare, so what difference does it make it you lose it on a BMW, Mercedes, Audi, VW or anything else.......If it's a good car, it's a good car!
The limiting factor may be that they've priced it just over the £40k threshold which seems stupid nowadays for the sake of an extra £500 on a car that will be sold in such limited numbers in this particular spec. Bet it won't be long until that's revised in the UK!!

It makes me laugh when the blinkered fanboys come out extolling the virtues of the so called "prestige" or "reliable" brands as well , claiming that Kia (and Hyundai) put such long warranties on their products because "they need to as they're unreliable", rather than the actual fact that they are that confident in their products!
No manufacturer of anything wants warranty claims, they cost money and eat into profits, so it's better to make a decent product to start with!
I'm new to your channel but like the fact you will do a fair review and criticise things you find, and on some fairly regular and affordable machinery.

It looks and sounds like a really good car, it's a shame the exhaust wasn't a bit more louder, I am old school, I would like a CD player in the in-car entertainment.

I understand the badge hasn't got the snob value, but the build quality Kia/Hyundai have, you would have to think about it. Lets look at the other end of the scale, Alfa or Kia over 5 years?

Thanks for sharing mate. I would say though, from the footage the rear "blind spot" area will be a right sod to get any info on (C-pillar and roof-line just kill the visibility). Would have to rely on Blind Spot Monitoring (which I think is a gaffe - just turn your bloody head!). Important for me as I drive like an ass and cut people off that go too slow :P.

Check these out used. They drop a shed load of money in the first 6 months and are then even more of a bargain !
Liked it. I've had my GT1 since last March. Although some have complained about "rattles" and other extraneous noises in their cars (the great majority of which are rectified), mainly the sunroof and hatch, mine is just as tight as when I drove it away from the dealership. 16:53 "It's a competent car, they're well made, they're well put together; there's no rattles and stuff in here, it feels really solid..." Yep. :thumbsup:

Great review as always, very good value for the performance and the warranty is excellent but the Killed In Action badge is the achilles heel. Out of interest Ped would you give up your Audi S4 for one? 🤔

Yea I agree. I LOVE the car... But I hate how cheap the badge looks. And i'm not a badge whore by any means but this car deserves a better looking kia badge. The K badge is cool but that genesis badge is money.
Constantine Joseph I fully agree. I have no problems with Kias or Hyundais. I had a first gen genesis when it was rocking a Hyundai badge. I meant that I literally hate the way the Kia badge looks in general not the company. It just looks like it's for cheaper made cars.
In Korea, all Stingers have no "KIA" badge. They are replaced with E and and large Stinger logo at the back. You can easily buy those badges and replace the KIA ones. Simple. Badge whores have nothing to complain about anymore
This car deserves a more premium looking badge like how Hyundai was doing the genesis before it fully launched the genesis brand.
Value for money is insane on this car. I'm not sure about design, but maybe that's a good thing. Something that is completely different to germans. However I still would buy Giulia QV.

Another excellent review. What other cars would rival this that are not the German norm and could you review them? I know Lexus have the ISF but I'm thinking more budget. Seems maybe a niche!

AWD option is available in Europe why not in UK?
I think it is due to the fact we have the steering wheel on the right and that interferes with the AWD system, but I've not had that confirmed !

The exterior of the Kia is very reminiscent of the current Ford Mondeo, which isn't a bad thing, to be honest. The interior... Mercedes...'ish? Especially with that gear lever!!
All for £41k and a warranty that shames 99% of other manufacturers! Well done to Kia.
One thing you mentioned. You were driving on "fairly dry roads" yet you were still sliding the back out in Sport+. Hmmm... I'm like you. Shame Kia's not made this with 4 wheel drive! Then it would make a good car, great*? Just maybe....?

The annoying thing is they have made a four wheel drive version BUT it's not going to be available in the UK !
The awd version is sold in other countries and I believe Canada in specific only gets the awd version. Its a shame that kia doesnt let other countries special order what model they want. But there are features that we (US) Don't get like the flat bottom wheel and technology features.

It’s just under £10,000 more than the Subaru WRX STI you had a few weeks ago. If it was your hard earned cash, would you surrender that extra money to have this car over the Subaru?
Probably as it is a much more modern feeling car with a better cabin and all the driver aids you can think of. And it's more powerful and quicker !!
I really like it. I’m not sure I should admit that though! I don’t think I could get my head around buying a ‘KIA’ regardless of how good it is though. One big bugbear would be that horrible plastic covering the airbag on the steering wheel, knowing how much effort they have put in elsewhere.
Another moan... I saw it at Geneva Motor show and liked it. As soon as I got back I registered my interest at Bristol KIA and Weston Super Mare KIA hoping at least one of them would contact me to tell me it’s in! Not heard from either. Even turned up in my BMW M4 to the dealership to prove I wasn’t a time waster. Hey ho... went off the idea and you know what I bought instead...
Brad Vanquish The centre of the steering wheel is the only bad bit really. Feels horrible when you press the horn, baffled why they didn’t change that, especially after two years of production as nobody likes it!
I did put my hand in my pocket though and bought one 2 weeks ago and love it! I can see past that, and is a great comfortable fast car.

I feel your pain, my mavic pro got drowned to death & my sony FDR-X3000 got run over by a car, hazards of filming stuff I guess.
What happened to you Mavic ? Did it go into water ?! I flew mine into a tree after less than a week !
I hit an overhanging tree while filming waterskiing and the mavic was submerged in fresh water for 10 mins and ruined, DJI said its a write off, as did quad copters, I spent a week drying it but to no avail. I should have bought the DJI insurance. My new one is insured !!
