This Conan FCBD issue has me hyped for the Black Stone story. It’s great that they are using this event to let other Robert E. Howard characters shine. Oh and Brissa lives!!! Thanks @StygianDogs
one thing we need to remember is all of Howard's stories or the Howardverse is apart/connected/set within HP Lovecraft's cthulhu mythos, its a shared universe.
As a REH fan, seeing those other characters gave me chills. I hope Titan can give us an El Borak story in one of the Savage Sword issues, love to see an artist render the back alleys of Kabul and the hills and crags of Afghanistan in black & white art.
Excellent review. So happy to see Haunter of the Ring referenced here, it's one of my favorite Howard stories. Loved this issue and looking forward to seeing what Zub and crew have in store for us. There was lots of good stuff available for FCBD< and I got a bunch, and while I was super excited for Flash Gordon, Jonny Quest and Gatchaman, this was the book I was most looking forward to and it did not disappoint.
Really cool that el borak is going to be in the event he’s probably one of the coolest Robert e Howard characters that a lot of people don’t know about.
@@StygianDogs hes in a couple of great adventure short stories set in Central Asia random house out a great paperback called el borak and other desert adventurers which collect most of his stories.
@@StygianDogs They're really good. Highly recommended. Check out the Del Rey collection. And you're right, El Borak would be an excellent movie. Part Indiana Jones, part Lawrence of Arabia, part Clint Eastwood's Man-With-No-Name
I too was able to get this issue along with Jonny Quest, Star Wars, Street Fighter and Hellboy/ Stranger Things. I’m looking forward to this new story arc, love to see the other Robert Howard character get their own books or movies, Solomon Kane has his. Love your channel.
Thanks Dog Brother! 👍⚔️ I appreciate that. I haven't really had a chance to look at any of the books yet. Doing so now! Digging the vibe of Jonny Quest. A lot to choose from...hard to pick. I usually go with one of my my kids so we can get a good selection.🤣 But I was solo this year.
Conan's stories are not supposed to these big sprawling epics, they're short contained stories. A long arc like this is antithetical to pulp characters and pulp fiction on principle.
@@hyperguyver2 I'm hoping that year 2 - after this year's reintroduction and property building - embraces this. It's why Zub's Savage Sword story was so excellent. ⚔️
@@StygianDogsI cannot disagree with you there. I'm hoping year two brings it back to an almost episodic nature that pulp is known for, but with this arc being added in SS#4 that means we have another 4 issues of The monthly title and how many others concerning this same plot line duing year 2. It honestly gives me Clone Saga vibes...
Look at all of this public domain goodness that people are totally free to use in their own creative endeavours, in spite of the swedish IP hoarder attempting to hold Robert E. Howards stuff hostage by way of trademark law.
I was able to snag a copy of this issue! I missed picking up last years, so I made sure to get one. Cool setup story for what’s to come. I’m wondering if the interior artist for this FCBD issue will be illustrating the Black Stone Event later this year.
Well, I guess that fully remains to be seen. But I'm guessing things (his end of things anyway) will be finished at the end of the current arc. But you never know! ⚔️
Haven't had a chance to read anything but Conan yet. Hoping for some good reads. Disappointing to hear about Flash Gordon...I'll have to see what I think. ⚔️
That last thing I want from a Conan story is yet another Multiverse. That gimmick is played out! As good as these other characters probably are, I don’t want them in my Hyborian Age lore.
I imagine that Zub will play it similar to what he did in 'Serpent War'...where the characters don't necessarily meet up in a common age. More that the sorcery will serve as a nexus - and their independent quests will revolve around that.

Has any other writer ever put all of REH’s characters in one storyline before? This is going to be EPIC.
The closest has got to be Jim Zub's 'Serpent War'. It's a bold move for Heroic Signatures...but I'm here for it. ⚔️
I too am excited about a Howard-verse
Good times! Just opened the Del Rey 'El Borak' collection. Pretty excited for that!

@jacobayers2391 I recall a similar name at the end Darkhorse’s King Conan run (2016?)…Not too sure. Any relation?

Kickin' it old skool!
Great review as always SD! Looks like good times ahead for REH fans! I can't help but shake a Cthulhu vibe off the Battle Black Stone story ark?

The Savage Sword of Conan 4 terá arte de Jonas Scharf?
No...various artists. Maybe Scharf? But he'll definitely feature in Issue #1-4 of 'Battle of the Black Stone'. Thanks Dog Brother! ⚔️

The first Saturday of May! ⚔️
And also...thank you very much! ⚔️🙏
Yo BRISSA’s alive!!!
W00t! I'm happy about this. I think they could do a lot with her.
Is Battle of the blackstone set after issue 10?
It would seem to be set after Issue 12...as such, I'm very curious to see how Zub resolves things in a meaningful way. 👍⚔️
Thank you for the reply I'm glad I never skipped ahead I've only just received issue 10. Loving the series so far
I'm just gonna be happy when this Black Stone Arc will be over, it is starting to wear out it's welcome
It's been a fun ride but I can't disagree. And it puts issue 12 in a tough position...it better rock, or it'll all be for naught.
