Dude, seriously. Did you hear that he had more than that in floor installation footage?! Like, he filmed an entire 11 hour day for some reason, plus whatever else. It took an insane amount of time to chop that down to something watchable. I hope he learned something 😅
@DeadDodgeGarage I had no idea, but that's hilarious. I was joking because he tends to do much longer videos and figured a 6,000 mile road trip would be quite the saga. He's about to go full Peter Jackson and put out his version of Lord of the Rings. I'm here for it.
I hope that rusted cowl doesn't turn into water injection on his trip. Colin did such a nice job on the floor repair and carpet.I hate to see it get worse. Just got my Awesome Dead Dodge Garage Hat. You know, just supportin. Good luck Colin, B-Safe!!!
Looking at that hollow steering wheel crossbar for 6K miles would literally 'drive' me insane. I say take and fashion from his favorite cereal box a cardboard piece that could pop into place where that cavernous well exists in your face, mile after mile. Have a great time Colin, nice vlog as always Jamie, there's no one else like you here and that makes you special. ❤ 🎉
A prayer for Colins trip .... oh Lord deliver him from the hands of every enemy and lurking foe, from robbers and wild beasts on his journey, and from all kinds of calamities that may come to and afflict him, and bestow blessing upon all his actions. Grant him grace, kindness, and mercy and in your eyes and in the eyes of all who behold him, and bestow a bountiful kindness upon him. And may his machine run steadfast and true throughout his travels. AMEN
As a new subscriber, I certainly have enjoyed discovering/watching your older videos. Good job! As for driving with the burrito, I used to say "If you can't downshift a manual, while going around a corner, while sipping a beer, you shouldn't get a license!!" Of course this was when I was working in Florida, in the 1980's, when drinking a beer while driving was allowed. Times have changed. 😁
Im impressed. I turned bottom side upward and crooked just to see behind the fuel gauge in my satelite. Couldnt even touch it. Wasnt worth the crick so i installed aftermarket.
I had so much fun trying to get the gauges working on 64 Dodge. I have them all working, except the Amp gauge, I have no idea why that one isn't working and I've given up caring. I can tell it has oil pressure, fuel and isn't over heating.
How very Gen X of you , Jamie Having the physical dexterity to Consume food AND drive a Manual transmission successfully Not too mention Contorting yourself like a Human gumby figure Under that dashboard With a full gut , is impressive That Plymouth Fury is Coming out great ❤ #PlymouthinaPlymouth
If there's no physical damage to the guts of the clock, you can borrow my method. Remove Clock from housing exposing it's inner workings. Flush the inner workings liberally in brake clean. Allow to dry. Spray the inner workings with a light oil, WD-40 works fine. Clean the contact point on the automatic winder. Test. If there's no damage to the clock mechanism, chances are it's just gummed up. Clean it, oil it and 60% of the time, it will come back to life every time.
My classic Mopar fuel gauge broke a long time ago, I think I can call a 1984 Ram B350 a classic now. Previous owner got rid of the wiring harness to the fuel tank and I built a custom cluster with no fuel gauge so I use the trip odometer. I am pretty sure that Fury could make several 6,000 mile road trips.
I have to say I'm in complete agreement with you on 'diesel fumes' being totally yucky, as in nauseous. I'll go farther to say often inconsiderate operators of such vehicles are thoughtless as to their rudeness when they leave the engine running with the exhaust gassing nearby cigarette smoking peeps 😮 that don't need the added toxins wafting into the mix from said nasty habit.😅
Ooh, almost first! Also my 66 Coronet does have a working fuel gauge. It mainly took a good used gauge, cleaning connections, a new instrument voltage regulator and better grounding. Like, everything. Now when I fill up, it reads full! And gas leaks everywhere. More new stuff needed, and modern lock rings suck. Oh yes, also resoldered the circuit board and gave it a dedicated ground wire.
Haaahaha. Crap. Yeah, stick with the old lock ring. Repros are terrible. Our ‘66 Coronet has a working fuel gauge for a while if I wiggle the connections on the back of it.
Now if you was being fancy, Jamie... you could have stuck a switch under the dash that toggled between sensor feeds to the gauge. Probably moot though since he has the aftermarket gauge set.
I really love that car. I just don’t know why he didn’t clean the chrome basil ring around the shifter boot before he put it on the new rug. just a thought.
Hmmmmmmm.....salsa dispenser idea. You know those soap dispensers with the sensor that works when you put your hand underneath? I'm sure you can see where I'm going with this.
I bought a $20 fix on Fleabay for my 66 Dodge. It worked. An SS (solid state) voltage regulator/step down (5.5 volts). An easy job. But yeah, this works too.
Yeah, that’s what’s in there powering the gauges - although it is 5v. They actually have nice plug in solid state replacements for the factory limiter available these days too.
It lays it on the ground and briefly on the inside of the quarter panels 😅 Nothing a hammer couldn't take care of. Anyway, I've been trying to be gentle to the fresh diff chunk and the new tires pre trip.
The "alternate" fuel gauge is cool - maybe "C' can stand for "Critical' and "H" can stand for "Happy". Now what would be equally cool is to use the fuel gauge for temp - "E" for "Excellent" and "F" for "FIRE!". About that cowl rust...maybe a temporary fix is some silicone on the outside to seal it up at least for awhile?
Haha. Nice. Can’t access that from the outside unfortunately. The outer cowl / intake area will have to come off to access it correctly. It’s already been halfass patched together once before. Back in the 80s or something. I’m sure he will want to fix it right eventually.
I all but begged him *not* to cut his hair before we left. I much prefer the "young Robert Plant" look to the "surly skinhead" look, and there never seems to be anything in between...
Jamie, I have several 64's and honestly, I have never seen one that DOESN'T have a cowl issue on the driver's side. Well, my Dad's is still gorgeous,,, but it's been garaged almost exclusively since new.😊 I'm not on any social media but, what Plymouth is yer Brother going to? Indiana by chance?
We did not make it to Indiana (although Indianapolis area was an outside possibility for eclipse viewing). We did notice an amusing number of Plymouths along the way to *the* Plymouth. If we had realized how many there were, we might have arranged things so that we hit as many of them as possible. Next time!
I always use the later 90s Magnum flex plate with the balancing weight. The one hole has to be oval’d to accomodate the offset bolt on the converter, but I’m fairly sure they are the same bolt circle otherwise. There was a larger circle used in some classic applications, but pretty sure 904 and later Magnum are the same.
Been without a gas gauge for 10 years lol. Bought a used one 5 years ago, put it in and POOF. It just kept going up to full, then nothing. Is there an aftermarket option that hooks up to a Mopar sending unit?
That’s a bad gauge voltage limiter. When they stick closed, they feed full 12v to the gauges and let the smoke out. But yes, there are compatible gauges. You’re looking for the 10-73ohm resistance range.
My first long ish trip in my 1984 B350 RV ended with a flat bed. Distributor broke, the springy retainer clip for the pickup coil broke into pieces. Lucky for me they don’t sell just the clip so I put in a remanufactured distributor, again. Lesson learned, Amazon distributors are not very good. Other lesson learned, falling off a flat bed truck and landing on your back and head hurts, and causes some injuries.
Well, our trip didn't *end* with a flat bed. There was one involved at one point, but I guess we're Energizer bunnies--we just (eventually) kept going! And at least nobody fell off the flat bed.
Still a sad fact of the Mopar aftermarket - nobody, I mean *nobody* , makes a decent/accurate sending unit for the 68-70 b-bodies. There's tons of them out there - and they're all junk.
All you would have had to have done was to go and ohm out the gas gauge under the dash if the little wire was broken it would have not have any resistance to it and you could have pulled the dash open the cluster to get to the little wire on the gauge and fixed it
I am well aware of how an ohm meter works, but by using the 5v voltage input and the power probe to check for that input on the other side of the gauge, I have checked for and confirmed a break with the same tool I use to check the key power feed, the limiter feed, the circuit board traces, connections through the nuts to the gauges, and the integrity of the fuel sending unit circuit. Using that tool, I found and fixed four or five different small problems - which led me to the big one. I strongly suspect that when we get into the gauge, we will find it’s melted and horrible. But we’ll see. If it’s fixable, great. If not, it will be replaced - which was the plan from the jump.
I can't wait to see his 12 hour director's cut of his road trip video.

There was a gas can in the trunk. However, there was apparently no gas in it. Were we doing it wrong? *lol*

Right. A single pole double throw two position toggle would accomplish that. But judging by the alligator clip wire, I was not being fancy 😅

I still haven't cleaned the glass on the new side mirror, either 😅. Priorities! They're all in the wrong order.
Might a 12V power outlet be a good idea to power cell phones, GPS, or maybe a 12V tire pump?

Rusted cowls are boot washer and thats a special option. Doesnt the tank sending unit do 70 30 ohms to work with the gauge?
It’s 10-73 ohms I believe, supposed to be compatible with ford.
