as a filipino, I love my life here in the Philippines. I can easily talk to my nieghbors, the sense of community is so alive here. I am just 30 minutes away from Manila. But what people are saying that only the people in the province are nice, is not true. City dwellers are also nice and friendly.
I could easily go to the US to work as a nurse since I am a license nurse, an English teacher to Koreans, so my I can easily pass the requirements. But I chose to live here mainly because of the people here.
The only problem I have is that it's too hot here, especially nowadays. El Nino has definitely exacerbated the heat level here. It was not as hot as before, but this weather phenomenon is crazy.

i guess the reason why (in places like NY, fir example) ppl are at each other's throats when it comes to money all the time, is because of the insanely high cost of living there. you have no choice bur to hustle, otherwise, you're gonna have lots of problems that can easily snowball and can cause you to drown in debt and become depressed and homeless, especially with the current situation if NY right now. it's ugly.

I want to address a misconception about Filipinos being intimidated by foreigners. While some individuals may feel intimidated, it is not the majority, especially among those living in urban areas. Filipinos are known for being shy and respectful, often demonstrating this by allowing foreigners to go ahead of them in various situations. This behavior is indicative of the hospitable nature of Filipinos. Let me provide an example to illustrate this point: there have been instances where Filipinos have offered their food to others who have not eaten, despite knowing that it may be the only meal left for their family. This act of generosity and kindness does not align with the idea of intimidation.
I recall a personal experience in the Philippines where a friend and I decided to step back and let a group of foreigners enter the elevator before us. This gesture was not because we were intimidated or unable to communicate in English, but rather it reflected our cultural inclination to show politeness and respect by allowing others to go first. This behavior is deeply ingrained in the Filipino way of life and is not indicative of intimidation towards foreigners.

I was once a salaryman working in SM City Manila for about 4 years with minimum salary (can't save enough extra money for emergency funds or house building projects though😅).
Now I'm living in an Island province where less populated to most Islands in Philippines. My location is 300meters away from the seashore and the topography of the land where my small house built is kinda good for Agriculture. My total owned lot area that i Inherited from my Uncle is 3000sqm only. I'm planting different kinds of veges, root crops, fruits, etc etc and also do have some native chicken and ducks--- a bit self sufficient lifestyle.
I always go fishing everyday or setting mud crabs trap (1-3 hours only), excess hunted fishes and mud crabs will be sold to small fish market which is less 1km away from my Home. The money that I get from fishing and mud crabs are already "Net money or Extra money"😊.
Cause most of the time I get my foods from my Humble Garden, Blessed Seashore. I sometimes buy rice, also some goods or foods outside if only I'm craving of something and I do have a week-end food cheat day😅.
I'm a lazy cow now compare to my life before when I was still a salaryman, but the good thing is that I can eat healthy foods, having a healthy environment, stress free life (No Bosses), gaining more some extra or net money.
I only gain around 14k-20k php a month with my lazy routine lifestyle😢. And my total Expenses a month is 3k-5kphp (5k if there is some special occasion like birthday etc etc.)
Within the 3kphp my internet and electricity is already included, and about drinking water is I do have a manual water hand pump that can produce a drinkable clean water.
I always do share some foods to some of my neighbors.
    I didn't regret I quit my Job😂.
It's the same with you guys, we don't really need to exactly follow the path where most people in our society are lining with, we just need to follow what's best or suits for own lifestyle that we are dreaming of. The lifestyle that gives peace and contentment to our mind and soul. And I'm sure this is where I belong😊.

It's about saving money for rainy days. Good while you're young & healthy. Bad when you're retired & don't have money for your healthcare. As you aged, frequent checkups with the doctor to monitor the status of their health and detect any problems. Major surgery is a reality when your old which will cost you over a million Pesos.

Artificial language barrier used in the video is a good term

I live in Mindanao. I renew my visa when necessary

The fact about the Philippines is that you can enter an area which looks like a poor neighborhood and still feel safe

How many people would feel comfortable walking through a poor like area where they are originally from?

However, some of our kababayans can be double standard! Mas mabait sa iba kesa sa kapwa Pinoy. In my observation having lived here in the U.S. for most of my life…it’s the crab mentality that seems hard to change. Within Filipino groups and gatherings you will still find some inggitera, tsismosa, at mga mahilig sa intriga. Para bang ayaw nilang may ibang Pinoy na nakakaangat sa buhay. Sana iyan ang mawala sa ating kultura. Just be happy for others in their success.

This interview is very refreshing. Covers a lot about living here. Good job and nice to see you in Manila. Most PH life videos are quite astonishing to me when foreigners claim one can live like a king here for US$2000/month. One cannot even rent a house - and I don’t mean not a condo unit in BGC - in a nice neighborhood fit for a king with such a budget. I’m a local, by the way.
Regarding the “nosebleed” when speaking in English, most Filipinos are not raised bilingual (English/Filipino) hence they have to translate first in their heads before speaking. Only those raised bilingual (or some who refuse to speak the local language hence English only) do not have to translate and speak it naturally with good grammar, intonation and vocabulary.

Only two things drive me nuts about the Philippines. You would figure that the driving would be one of them, but it is not. You get used to it, take your time and use your horn to let the motorcycles know when you are passing them. Honking your horn, softly, is not considered rude. The two things are: lack of toilet paper/clean bathrooms in public and the litering. ALWAYS carry a roll of toilet paper with you when you are out in public. The cities and Brgy's clean before a festival, but people are OK with randomly throwing their trash on the ground. It is a shame because everywhere you look, you see beauty and beautiful people.

Me and my 3 other siblings experienced only being able eat 2 meals a day when we were younger. My widowed mom had difficulty feeding us all.
I was only 11 when I started carrying big buckets of fishes at 4:00 AM and then selling toothbrush and scotch bright from 5:00AM till 6:00AM. Life was so difficult, but I wouldn’t say I was miserable.
Majority of the 25% Filipinos considered as poor have the same thing to say. Life is difficult, but they always find a time to laugh and smile. 😉
