I do love the fact that the Cenobites genuinely seem to think that they're bringing their victims to heaven and are genuinely confused when people DON'T want to be eternally tortured
Psychological studies of torture victims have shown that continuous physical and mental torture can reach a point where neuroplasticity changes the interpretation of negative stimulus into positive stimulus. Pain into pleasure. Pleasure as intense as the pain they should be experiencing. This phenomena is well documented throughout history. The Inquisition claimed that those who began to feel pleasure from the torture were suffering from demonic possession. So Cenobites are not really lying when they say they will bring you to a new highs. It just might take a while of being tortured before you cum... around.
Cenobites only offers pain and pleasure to whoever opens willingly the Charmand box, they only knows that if you wanted tí solve the puzzle box you are calling for them*
@@ericallen789 That's not what he was saying lol, he means cenobites think they are taking there victims to a place that they think would be considered heaven.
@Rechordian ok. imma slow it down a bit, just for you there is NO DEVIL (or SATAN) in these stories have you seen Hellraiser 2? when they went to "hell"? was it fire and brimstone? NO. if anything,it was the exact opposite also, Cenobites are NOT DEMONS the original stories have nothing to do with the Christian idea of hell
The fact that the chatterer is randomly wearing the bridal veil near the end makes me so happy. Like he found it and was like "oh that's cute," puts it on and resumes chasing Kirsty.
I really love this movie.i like how the cenobytes are in the background, making them even more scary. the shot of pinhead popping you behind Kristy saying "we have such sights to show you" really freaks me out.
Right?!! Decker is a natural at this. Great reviews and he never goes halfway. He is a pro and I am waiting for him to make the big leagues. He deserves it!
I do love how the low budget meant the locations used give the film an atmosphere and style like no other movie made at the time. Every room and design has a look that gives me the creeps, no idea why, but they make me uneasy.
Decker, you are the best reviewer who does these kinds of reviews, bar none, and not only that, but you've been that for almost a decade; the whole time! Truly one of my favorites, across all genres!
Thank you for watching all of the Hellraiser movies. I knew after number 5 Inferno that the franchise was going downhill. Now I know I didn't miss anything and I got to get reacquainted with Pinhead again. :)
I've seen people complain that the puzzle box is apparently too easy to solve, in the movies. But think about this for a second. If it was too difficult for the kind of morons you usually get in horror movies to solve, how are the Cenobites supposed to land any good victims? Maybe its supposed to be deceptively easy to trick idiots into solving it?
Last Thursday was the *6* year anniversary of when you uploaded "Hellraiser Review". 🤓 EDIT- 2:18 P.M.: *finishes episode 23 minutes later* The gore effects still look good in 2020. If only I can say the same about the special effects! 😅
Hellraiser officially turns 35! Still one of my favorite horror movies by Clive Barker, his directorial debut No idea it was based on a novella An eerie memorable score by Christopher Young, Doug Bradley does wonders playing the villainous Pinhead, and I love Ashley Laurence as Kirsty Expert makeup and gore effects too along the lines of David Cronenberg Explores the horrific boundaries between pleasure and pain Clumsily plotting aside it plays almost like a fever dream thanks to the editing It's also analyzes our collective fascination with and need for the pleasure of sex being tethered to either harrowing pain or new bodily discoveries one would think up while on an acid trip The film still has divided critics over time but it's the only good installment next to Hellraiser II All the other sequels have failed to match it I'm so glad I discovered the movie thanks to that Boogeyman compilation VHS Thankful another film is on its way to Hulu, I'm hoping it's good especially since Pinhead will be female this time
At the dinner scene, 4:41, I kinda like the part where Kristi's boyfriend seems to make her smile.💑 As the L8 gr8 Robin Williams said in "Aladdin", 'A woman appreciates a man who can make her laugh!'😀
I always thought she picked up the men in an airport, travellers, that way they wouldnt be noticed as being missing for a few hours, and its a place where so many people are moving so it would be hard to track anyone down, if it was an airport that solves the brightness, and how she is dressed in "business" attire
5:00 rats are actually incredibly clean animals even in the wild! They like to groom themselves meticulously. The same can’t be said for well fed though
I really don't get why its even called a puzzle box because in the 100 odd movies nobody can't open the thing. Its just a box of demons or a Pandora's box not much of a puzzle
Decker, would you believe I had an art show with Clive Barker in 1997. It was a group show with his black and white children's illustrations... I even read at the time he was talking with Disney about having a theme area based off this work in the park!!! nightmares for your children anyone? Great review.
What kinda sound you looking for in some original credit's music? I have music making software and I dabble a bit, so I am sure I could come up with something if you really wanted me to try. I mean would you prefer something like rock, or electronic, or trance or dubsteb, I dunno... Just thought I'd ask. I'm not the best but my most recent stuff I have made (mainly in an electronic sorta sound to it) is under Adversity's Fire. I've also made some softer stuff in the past under a different name but I intend to rework it with my newer and better sounding software.
LadySorrowIshana Depending on the movie, I'd like the music to match pretty well with the subject matter. Nothing lyrical mind you, but just the feelings and the like.I've been working with Ichabod Todd for the credits music of my latest reviews, but it is hard to get the variety I'd like. (optimally, I'd want a new tune for every review, but that's not a realistic expectation.)
I think i posted this before but i think julia went to an airport bar. light, and people coming and going, and if one person vanishes you wouldnt know until they got to the other airport, then the men all look like salesmen, thats my theory of the lightbar
I loved Decker Shado quote in this review of Hellraiser 1987 film "Frank is Julia's Beloved Jackass!"=most accurate description of him as only a Jackass meddles or solves "The Lament Configuration"
that starbucks statement is true mainly because of this story. There used to be a confession stand at this Target which is a part of my nearby mall. until last year the stand is replaced by a starbucks stand when there is literally a starbucks story in that same damn street
I watched this movie the first time last night. I kept staring at the guy who played Larry, thinking, "I know this guy...where the hell is he from?" Took me an entire day to realize he plays Garak, the Cardassian tailor from "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" (actor's name is Andrew Robinson). Pretty weird.
AFTER she wed Larry. The wedding gown being there to have sex on is not all that shocking or hard to locate. After the wedding, gowns are frequently cleaned and placed in a preserving box. The tone in Julia's voice of we're b "very happy." As viewers we kind of got a hint of when Larry was more interested in saying "Her mother's DEAD." Daddy is more interested in mentioning "her mother's dead" then backing a creepy mover off his daughter. Also just as believable that Frank never actually showed at the wedding. So, he matches any photos she's seen, and early pubescent Kirsty isn't home, so she seems to have been married to Larry long enough to understand that the widower is going to always love his dead wife way more than her. That was just what I always I perceived when I first saw it just before seeing part 2 in it's cinematic release. Like your reviews
Awesome review Decker, reallly looking forward to the summer of Hellraiser. I've seen all 9 Hellraiser movies so I have my personal favorites, looking forward to seeing how they differ. Oh and can't wait to hear what you think of Revelations XD its horrible.
Cool review/synopsis. Re. Transmutations, Barker also hated the poorly-made film "Rawhead Rex" with a passion, which was an additional factor in him taking the helm in Hellraiser.
Yeah, judging from what I've seen in this movie, I don't really get why women like Julia have the hots for douche bags like Frank. I mean, if Larry really does love her, that has to be real, right? And Frank? Well, I'm pretty sure there's no real love in his heart, and, of course, I don't like what I have seen in him in this movie.😦

Well yeah there are a couple I really like, but I've known about them for a long time. I think the newest person on there I have enjoyed was The Horror Guru and Count Jackula
My drama teacher was the original female Cenonobite in the first Hellraiser. She's Clive Barker's cousin.
That sounds freaking amazing!!
That’s awesome
Aw wow I was disappointed that she didnt get to do hellbound. Grace kirby I think she was called
Fucking awesome
Did you ever ask her how she reacted the first time her cousin asked her to put on a bunch of S&M gear to be in his movie?

The homeless dude is a protector version of the Cenobites their purpose is to protect gateways to hell( graphic novel info)
It's not hell
That’s not Rob Zombie? 😳
They are called Eremites
I never understood how Frank’s voice changed when he was wearing Larry’s skin.
I do love how the low budget meant the locations used give the film an atmosphere and style like no other movie made at the time. Every room and design has a look that gives me the creeps, no idea why, but they make me uneasy.
20:21 Christy getting mandible claw from cenobite...wonder if this was Mick Foley's inspiration, as he wore a very similar glove (before socko)
Ohhh interesting take 🤔
Damn I love Pinhead’s lines throughout pretty much the entire hellraiser series
"Hellraiser" is one of my all-time favorite films.
"Oh no tears, please. It's a waste of good suffering."
Ashley Laurence is quite the stunner these days! Wow!
The subtitles on this vid called you Becca shadow....lol

Explores the horrific boundaries between pleasure and pain
Clumsily plotting aside it plays almost like a fever dream thanks to the editing
It's also analyzes our collective fascination with and need for the pleasure of sex being tethered to either harrowing pain or new bodily discoveries one would think up while on an acid trip
The film still has divided critics over time but it's the only good installment next to Hellraiser II
