of course forcing someone to open the Lament Configuration wouldnt work .. as Pinhead said in Hellraiser II ... "it is not hands that call us, but desire"
"Explorers in the further regions of experience. Demons to some. Angels to others." Can we get a Hellraiser movie that actually holds true to what it is?
Do I remember the Summer of Hellraiser? Don’t you mean *solves Lament Configuration and summons Pinhead Decker Shado who yells in booming voice:* THE SUMMER OF HELLRAISER!?
"Explorers, in the further regions of experience. Demons to some, angels to others." Or as this movie has it: "Demons... we're just demons. Angels are around, but they're not cenobites"
I feel like there’s some decent ideas in here. The whole trial thing, with the auditor, the assesor , etc, could be really interesting in a better movie, and without the Hellraiser element. It’s kinda wasted here.
There's some ideas here, but since when does Hellraiser have anything to do with atoning for sins? One thing I will say is, at least this movie feels like some effort was put into it.
Unless you read the sequel in which they are demons Pinhead is called the hell priest and the whole plot is about stealing Lucifers armor so he can officially rule hell.
If I were to make this movie (with way more money skill and competent actors and set design), and I were forced to include an angel, I would take inspiration from the Old Testament and the more Eldrtich looking angel designs you can find online. Something beautiful, alien, terrifying, and not nice or friendly. Make them on the other side of the spectrum, everything bright and shiny but alien and unknowable. Instead of hedonism, the angels are the abandonment of all worldly emotions, vices and ideas, to ascend to a higher plane and no longer being human. But that's just how I see it. Angels in Hellraiser is a cool idea but this movie does it in the worst way.
Jose Sanchez Hmm.. This kinda reminds me of the tag line for the first Hellraiser film: "Demons to some, angels to others". Of course that line alluded to the fact that the Cenobites weren't demons in the traditional sense in the first film (as Decker explained in this review). But since the latter films in the franchise keep pushing the infernal, demonic angle, they could try combining the OT depiction of angels with the Cenobite "aesthetic", and basically have them be just like that tag line described them as.
@@Khenfu_Cake Basically, the other side of the same coin. Instead of beings mutilating themselves, to achieve another realm of pleasure, they're pretty much the epitome of steralization, almost completely devoid of any distinguishingly human features, alongside having a cold and emotionally dead sort of demeanour, whose comprehension of human nature in general is completely alien to them.
This movie was just boring and gross. The crime plot was extremely predictable. I was just waiting the whole movie for some cool cenobite lore to play out, but hardly any was on display. They’re making the same mistake that Transformers makes by focusing on the humans rather than the supernatural entities of the universe.
I was all for giving this film a chance, until they dragged good and evil into it. Did the writer not read the book or WATCH the original movie? The Hell Priest states it very clearly. Demons to some. Angels to others. They are not evil. They are beings of sensation. Grrrrrrr. Btw. Great review as always.
That's my main problem with this film, the fact they do the gross-out horror just to be completely edgy, no reason for the scenes to exist. Plus we just have Pinhead because we gotta tie this to Hellraiser when it makes no damn sense for the character to be there.
The first two were genius?? Uhh, they were awful. I mean, there was some good acting in the first one, but overall it was like a subpar Tales From The Darkside episode. I love the concept of the Cenobites and Pinhead, but that's the only good thing in the Hellraiser franchise. Definitely by far the worst modern horror Icon movie franchise. Doug Bradley as Pinhead is epic (what little we get)..but that's it.

@@gothoverheaven6239 The first film is superior in many ways, and closer to Barker's vision, but I still thought the second had a something going for it. I liked the fact that so much of it is set in Hell itself, we get some exploration there, and they tried to hint at some lore behind it. The idea of Hell as this infinite labyrinth, that seizes some humans to turns them into cenobites, is not bad either. There are some unsettling and brutal moments. One scene outside of Hell that sticks with me is where the sadistic doctor character uses the mattress to summon Julia - the way he goes about doing it, tricking a mentally ill man who thinks he has bugs under his skin, is extremely horrific. In some ways the attempt to explore Hell (although the execution is far from perfect) makes me like the second film more than the first, even though objectively I recognise that the first film is better in terms of story and acting. This movie: Saw + The Collector/The Collection + Se7en = Hellraiser: Judgement. Also: Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth is the code of Hammurabi. Though it does have mentionings in the bible.
The entire problem with this series is the title "Hellraiser." Because of that title, everyone assumes the Cenobites are demons. They are extradimensional beings obsessed with the extremes of sensation. There's not supposed to be any question of morality here, they aren't evil, they aren't malicious, they are just extremists looking to recruit others. That's why the doctor in Hellraiser 2 was such an effective villain, because unlike the others, he WAS evil.
I mean, ‘recruiting’ in the vaguest sense, it’s not like the Cenobites stick a note on the Lament Configuration, perfectly detailing what it does. When they have someone they don’t let them go, it’s not like a guy says “Oh I’m terribly sorry I’m just not into this” and they go “Alright sure, sorry about that”. I’d still say that’s evil, also ‘Extremes Of Sensation’, do you know what that means? Their are definitely some evil Cenobites.
Y'know, around the time the Surgeon showed up and started hacking away, I realized what was the problem with most Hellraiser movies now a days... They are effectively all Horror/Gross Out/Gore Spectacles with absolutely no substance. Great review as always! But I'd like to say that there is a reason this film played out the way it did. I won't get into it here but if anyone is interested check out the SUPER indepth interview that Mr. H Reviews did with Gary Tunnicliffe and Paul Taylor explaining all the studio meddling that went on and Gary run through his 'Directors Cut'. The interview is FOUR hours long and cut into four parts. It's absolutely worth a listen. Part 1 ua-cam.com/video/MEj9a13FMJ0/v-deo.html
Only reason they made this movie was that the time limit was coming when the rights of Hellraiser would go back to Clive Barker ... so lets input Pinhead in some random movie .
"What bullshit Mr. H tries to come up with"? This isn't 'fan theory' or conjecture ...It's an interview with Gary Tunnicliffe. I'm pretty sure the man knows what he's talking about. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Judgement was great. I'm just saying there are legitimate reasons it wasn't 'better than ok'. At least it didn't start with a script for something completely different and shoehorn Hellraiser into it, like the other recent films.... as some people seem to think they did.
I'd also recommend checking out the interviews Midnight's Edge did with Tunnicliffe where they discuss not only the film and the behind the scenes drama, but the Hellraiser franchise in general, with which Tunnicliffe has been involved since the 3rd film, doing the makeup effects and more or less becoming Doug Bradley's personal on-set assistant and buddy, and the erosion of his relationship with Doug Bradley due to Revelations and Judgement: ua-cam.com/video/IIN5WO5UQrI/v-deo.html There's about 5 1/2 hours worth of material in that playlist.
What I hate about number two (just saying because it's my favorite) is that we never see or hear from leviathan again. He is given such a throne in terms of hell and control over the cenobites. And now the connections of angels to him is also unexplored
I feel like they were writing the script for this movie, reached the half way point and thought this movie might not sell, so they stamped the hellraiser name on it slapped pin head on the story and said “ WE HAVE DONE IT AGAIN!”
I really believe that if the Hell Priest was banished to earth, he would have relished the opportunity to explore pain and suffering in the world of flesh and not cried like a little bitch about it
This reminds me of a story that ran in the Judge Dredd Megazine called 'Blood of Satanus' by Pat Mills and John Hicklenton. Dredd goes after a judge killer who has escaped to another dimension resembling hell (that's dedication for ya!) inhabited by demon like beings called 'bloodprints'. I won't spoil the outcome, but they put Dredd on trial for his numerous violent shenanigans. Sadly, John Hicklenton died not long after completing the artwork and it's both beautiful, repellent, familiar and macabre. Check it out...

Honestly...I don’t understand how the assessor and jury can “judge” the findings of a serial child molester and murderer and be perfectly fine but the sins of the crazed zealot serial killer was too much for them?? Am I missing something here??
One good idea to come out of the crappier entries in the franchise was the configuration being incorporated into a video game. Still has the same functions but it now comes in the format that people might pay attention to. Even if that particular entry was a confusing mess.
He shouldnt have been able to take out any kind of angel. Especialy not an arch angel of such incredible power and ability. Thats just my own head canon so it doesnt matter. I actually enjoyed the movie.
You have spared me the agony of watching this trash myself, good sir. Consequent to this selfless act of public service, mister Shado, you've earned yourself a new subscriber. ☺️
i believe at the end, only pinhead was punished for being the leader and directly opposing the angel; the other cenobytes weren't banished and allowed to continue doing business.

funny fact: most of the secuels are unrelated movies that got pinhead scenes added to them in order to make them secuels :-) so yeah thats why they are disjointed mess all around
It seems this movie completely ignored the whole idea of cenobites in the original, people see them as demons, but they aren't. Hell, even the tagline for the first film uses the line: "demon to some, angel to others". The fact this movie uses an angel (in the most cliched way possible...) is an insult to Clive Barker. Great review though, Decker!
I hope that Decker Shado will soon review the Warlock movie series and if possible the movie I Come in Peace or the underrated Rutger Hauer movie Split Second
I have a theory Pinhead from revelations is a different character from Judgment and Doug Bradley’s version. Cenobite designs aren’t exclusive to each one, how many Chatterers have we gone through? Also in revelations pinhead makes a new cenobite in his own design. Also in the end of this movie pinhead becomes human and he looks nothing like Elliot Spencer in hellbound or hell on earth. So different actor different pinhead (I might be wishfully thinking but still)
Honestly if they would remove the hellraiser stuff and actually make it about the percepter and let us see everything all kills and so on this movie would most likely be kinda good i’d love to watch it
I think the best way to explain this is The Auditor isnt a cenobite but a worker of hell and cenobites are gods so the workers of hell are in charge of the judgement and the cenobites being the gods of hell make sure that the process is going according to plan Im a big fan im sorry if I came off rude
A. I don't mind gross out horror, except Hellraiser (usually) tried to set up a solid base of BODY HORROR B. WHEN THE HORROR IS MAKING ORIGINAL HELLRAISER LOOK CLASSY MAYBE YOU SHOULD RETHINK YOUR MOVIE
I find it funny how you tell us the names of all of these unknown actors in all your videos. Not a bad thing, just interesting considering we're like "who?".
Not only was this not originally a Hellraiser movie it was actually a script Tuncliffe tried to get crowdfunded and was penned to be a spiritual successor to Se7en... Bit too obvious lol.
Great review Decker. I was also bothered by the change of the cenobites becoming basically devils who punish sins. Since when? And also the lore always worked on the principle that you open the box the cenobites come, but now they are always out? How? Why? Also using magic I guess to hypnotize their victims and then put them on trial that ends with their death with no torture. If you look on the work of Gary or listen to some podcast he was on, he seem to be a fucking Hack, putting him in the main role no less, degrading Pinhead and erasing him from the story so the Auditor can became the new lead. That is supported by this evidence: on UA-cam you can find his trailer for Judgement - a horror film like no other (teaser), used to start his kickstarter in 2013 to make the movie (which failed of course). Then, when it once again was time to make a Hellraiser movie, so that Dimension does not lose the rights, he just repurposed his scrip by inserting Pinhead and removing him later from the story completely. Well Revelations was a worse movie, but at least it stole from better Hellraiser movies, so it was a better Helraiser movie (the scale is : NO, and HELL NO!) Also I think the 2009 movie Necromentia was the primary inspiration for style a some figures like the butcher, because who knows an obscure indie horror right?
of course forcing someone to open the Lament Configuration wouldnt work .. as Pinhead said in Hellraiser II ... "it is not hands that call us, but desire"

iwrestledabear1s finally someone else who gets it.
It played out this way because it's shit. I don't care what bullshit mr.h tries to come up with this time. The movie is shit and that's that.
I'd also recommend checking out the interviews Midnight's Edge did with Tunnicliffe where they discuss not only the film and the behind the scenes drama, but the Hellraiser franchise in general, with which Tunnicliffe has been involved since the 3rd film, doing the makeup effects and more or less becoming Doug Bradley's personal on-set assistant and buddy, and the erosion of his relationship with Doug Bradley due to Revelations and Judgement: ua-cam.com/video/IIN5WO5UQrI/v-deo.html
There's about 5 1/2 hours worth of material in that playlist.
I like to think the got the postman version of Tim Robbins from Jacobs ladder to deliver in this movie
It's sad that's basically what's been happening since, what, the fifth Hellraiser movie?
CountessChuchoteur yes
That's pretty much what all the films do after the 4th film just add the, Cenobites in it to sell it as a Hellraiser film
Actually, this is the first movie since the fourth that was written as a Hellraiser film from the beginning.
"Drmons to some, angels to others!" The maker of this only heard the first word of that.
I listen to you from northern Ireland UK love your reviews Decker Shado keep them coming
It is important to note that The Auditor is NOT a cenobite. Tunnicliffe states this in his interviews.
10:42 you get the same scream from spiderman 2000 where green goblin is dressed as a woman in a burning building to get spidy
I really believe that if the Hell Priest was banished to earth, he would have relished the opportunity to explore pain and suffering in the world of flesh and not cried like a little bitch about it
The dog survived the same way Luke survived. The Perceptor likely saved the dog's life. 🤭
SO HAPPY DECKER IS COVERING THIS!
Atleast the Auditor is the smart side of what pinhead once was
This literally got posted the day I binged the Summer of Hellraiser series. Great timing!
The "butcher" reminded me a lot of the "Siam" enemies from Silent hill...
Alberto Mariano da Silva Bittencourt funnily enough there was also a Silent Hill monster called The Butcher...not sure which one is worse
Yeah. From Silent Hill Origins if I'm not mistaken, right?
Yep, thats the one.
I was thinking Matt Helms from the game "No More Heroes 2" who wears a bizarre mask like that too.
@@striderreborn1467 Mask is basically the same.
I just finished watching your reviews on the hellraiser when you post this
when you have time on your schedule could you review wrong turn? (only the first two matter the rest are watchable crap, apart from the abomination that is wrong turn six!)
george johnson you must be new here. He gets funnier with the shitty sequels. Watch the Summer of Pumpkinhead 😉
oh I'm anything but new, in fact I'm a long time fan, and I've already watched the summer of pumpkin head (four times).
✊ respect. I started during the Summer of Freddy Vs. Jason
hey that was one of my favorites too! particularly the review of Friday the 13th part lll with all the pointless 3d shit going on.
george johnson i recently rewatched the second one.... henry rollins is the man!
It really is a shame that a concept as unique and awesome as the Cenobites has been wasted on inept filmmaking over and over.
Review Saw
Please.
Make more Warframe videos.
Sean no longer being an alcololic, is like my father cut down on his drinking.. He got down to two glasses a night...the first one and the last one....
What was the original title of this film. It wasn't originally supposed to be a Hellraiser film if I'm not mistaken
Nope this was made by the guy who director the movie before. So he already made a hellraiser movie. He made this script 100% as a hellraiser
Mr Dek can I just say! “You are by the far my favourite youtuber! You made me smile through some of my lowest times and my best.. and I always watch you back catalogue of brilliant videos. Like I shot him 6 times! Thanks for everything DS you are a true gent and gifted guy, I hope you all the best in life and be the most successful person on here ☺️☹️
Please review Deep Rising
AyJay fuck yes. I love that movie
5:17 your right Decker that is a lewd under arm on the butcher thank you for smiley facing it
Seriously though probably best performance from a director/writer
I'm honestly excited for your review, if you plan it, of the new reboot of Hellraiser, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks for enduring these less than stellar sequels 👍🏻👍🏻
Honestly...I don’t understand how the assessor and jury can “judge” the findings of a serial child molester and murderer and be perfectly fine but the sins of the crazed zealot serial killer was too much for them?? Am I missing something here??
Are you going to review Halloween series for the 40th anniversary of the franchise for this summer?
The actor who played Pinhead did a pretty good job filling in for Doug Bradley.
I just finished the summer of hellraiser and this was uploaded right after, when I saw that I was just like: NANI?!
Yay more hellraiser!!! Also need to do neon maniacs and the subspecies series
Oh and review saw pls
You have spared me the agony of watching this trash myself, good sir. Consequent to this selfless act of public service, mister Shado, you've earned yourself a new subscriber. ☺️
I honestly thought that that rape scene in the movie The Girl with the Dragon heart tattoo was way worse than anything that's ever been in Hellraiser
i believe at the end, only pinhead was punished for being the leader and directly opposing the angel; the other cenobytes weren't banished and allowed to continue doing business.
Review saw
Yes, saw.
No, he has to review the Critters franchise first.
Hey guess what??
2020: *Summer of Saw*
Decker, I love your videos man.
the dog was like and i thought they smelled bad on the outside
If he's a surgeon, shouldn't he use a scalpel? or a bonesaw? or literally any surgical tools whatsoever?
Great review and thanks for expanding my horizons on horror films because of your recommendation I bought Night of the Creeps and Killer Klownz from Outer Space on DVD.....Now if we can just have you finish off the Hatchet series.
funny fact: most of the secuels are unrelated movies that got pinhead scenes added to them in order to make them secuels :-) so yeah thats why they are disjointed mess all around
Deader and deadworld being good examples.
Ahh! Judgement Review! My favourite type of reviews!
It's the 10th movie and Auditor is not a cenobite
So, Decker... Would you open the Lament Configuration?
I know I would, but only if I get to keep my skin.
He would if it erased this movie.
don't worry, theres just gonna be a lot of cutting
EBTKS Gaming Nah I like not dying.
He already did I bet. i mean have you seen some fo the stuff he has to watch, Pinhead really knows how to mess with him.
9:16 Ever scene the tales from the dark side movie?
I hope that Decker Shado will soon review the Warlock movie series and if possible the movie I Come in Peace or the underrated Rutger Hauer movie Split Second
It's so crazy that I thought the younger brother was in their late 20's..while thinking the older brother was in their late 40's. Boy was I off!
Decker thanks for doing the review the way you did it, I can handle allot of things, but Gross-out stuff is one of those things I can't
Alex Olinkiewicz same especially ones that are only doing it for the schock value/factor
Alex Olinkiewicz you need to review jp fallen kingdom
I always found gross out horror to be as cheap as unearned jump scares. Gimme that old time psychological horror.
Hellraiser is gross out horror since the first one lol
man up pussyboy
I have a theory
Pinhead from revelations is a different character from Judgment and Doug Bradley’s version. So different actor different pinhead (I might be wishfully thinking but still)
Honestly if they would remove the hellraiser stuff and actually make it about the percepter and let us see everything all kills and so on this movie would most likely be kinda good i’d love to watch it
Hey brother, love your videos, keep up the great work!
I think the best way to explain this is
The Auditor isnt a cenobite but a worker of hell and cenobites are gods
so the workers of hell are in charge of the judgement
and the cenobites being the gods of hell make sure that the process is going according to plan
Im a big fan im sorry if I came off rude
so.... angels, God's warriors, run around in stripper heels and low cut tops. I missed that part in the Bible!
A. I don't mind gross out horror, except Hellraiser (usually) tried to set up a solid base of BODY HORROR
Well Revelations was a worse movie, but at least it stole from better Hellraiser movies, so it was a better Helraiser movie (the scale is : NO, and HELL NO!)
Also I think the 2009 movie Necromentia was the primary inspiration for style a some figures like the butcher, because who knows an obscure indie horror right?
5:41 Where the fuck did they get a black Gp-5? I've been looking for one of those for ages.
