I can still hear alot of those in my band scan shortly ago. I need to setup a SW receiver in my Jeep to go along with my other radios, so I can listen on the go, and don't have to drag my PL-880 with me lol. Have a good day, man! 😎
If you do set it up in your Jeep, what antenna would you use? It would be an interesting project to see how good it would receive, would it pick up a lot of noise from the electrical system, how would it be mounted, etc. If you get it done, it would cool to see some pictures! Have a wonderful day!
@@SWLSignals23-hp6vp Thanks, man! Yeah, so that's the issue that plagues me lol. The antenna. If you check my channel videos out, I have a few on there with my Jeep that should show the equipment and radios inside. I do need to do an update video, however, since I have added a new radio and antenna. I already have a 102" whip at the rear left corner, and that's for my Connex CB. I didn't want to share that antenna with a receiver, just in case somehow I forget to disconnect before using my CB to Tx, or if someone else doesn't know and somehow keys it. So I would want to go with a separate antenna, and I have another 102" whip, spring, and mount that could be put on the rear right corner, but I almost feel like that would look ridiculous with dual whips. But, I decided that if I go that route, I would most likely keep that whip tied down military style, which I think in its own would look cool 😆 And also the issue of space to mount another radio. I'm running out of room! But I do plan to make something work eventually. If you don't mind, may I ask what you think about the dual whips idea with the SW one being tied down to point straight ahead over my roof when I'm not using it..?
@@SWLSignals23-hp6vp Also, as for the noise, luckily I don't get a lot of noise thru my other radios, but something low frequency I would prefer to not have the engine running when Rx'ing. But, I do like to listen on the go sometimes, and that's a bridge I'll have to cross when I get there. Hopefully, I can choke out a lot of noise if I end up with any. 🙂
I think the dual whips would look cool, I've seen them on some trucks here in FL. I would try using it straight up and tied down and see which way performs best. I heard of other SWLs that use loop antennas horizontally instead of vertically and have some interesting ideas. I'll take a look at your videos!
That is good, but like you said, at lower freqs the noise may be greater with the engine on. I have tried a couple of tests using my PL368 with the telescopic antenna and receive engine noise. Turning it off helped, but the signals weren't as good as I expected, possibly due to the metal surrounding me from the cab.
I am just a listener for now. I use to have a technician license back in the 90s, KD4URI was my call sign. I let it expire sadly, I may get it again, but I enjoy listening a lot more I think.

hello. very good video. What is the average life of the batteries?
I don't use it everyday, but I've gone at least 30 days with sporadic use and it was fine.
I stay on 7230
As a HAM or just a listener?
