Welcome to the SWLSignals channel. This channel would feature what I am hearing on the shortwave bands from my own radios and web SDRs. I will showcase shortwave broadcasts from other countries, utilities, number stations, digital, CW, FAX, and other decodes. There are several signals out there, lets discover!
Below are some links to sites I use while scanning the bands and listening to help identify what I am hearing.

Good signal! Congrats on the 1K subscribers!
@@57sw-DX1 thank you!
Would have been a fairer test if you had swapped antennas on both radios as the MLA-30+ has the advantage over the wire..
@stephenwright8103 thank you. Next time, I will remember that. Thanks again!
Stephen is right you'll have to do it again that was a waste of time
In hindsight, I realize that Stephen makes a good point. A better test would have been what he described. I don't think it was a waste of time though (for me at least) since I was able to learn how to do a better test! Thank you Stephen.
I've enjoyed using my Radio Shack DX-398 (identical to the ATS-909) for many years; it's a fine portable receiver. The confirmation beep drives me nuts, however. I know there's a way to disable it, but I'm not about to tear into the radio. 🙂
The beep doesn't bother me, but even if it did, I too would not try to modify it. It works and I am happy. I am not good with servicing electronics.
Both awesome but ats909 for the win
@@qutube100 yep, i think so too.

Hi, where did you find the info concerning the frequency and the time of transition? Please. Have a nice day.
I use a website called: priyom.org/ it has information on the active number stations of today, schedules and frequencies for each station.
Very good signals especially 13755. RNZ has great content. During the summer months 17675 kHz booms strong here at night on the east coast. Enjoy their morning weather and traffic report as I was going to bed.
@@57sw-DX1 yep good stuff. Thank you for watching and commenting.
Reading the description, it works on a battery. I hope that the part that needs the battery sits inside the house because it's winter here in Illinois. Brrrr.
@KarlWitsman I saw that too. And that was a question for me. I wouldn't want it to be in that small box where the loop attaches. If it was mounted high, you would have to climb or take it down to change. I would hope it would be in the bias-t box.
I've been listening to Radio New Zealand on 13.755 this morning at 11. am it was there mid night here in the UK on SDR++ with the MLA 30+ it was coming in really strong for about hour and a half I made a rotator for the MLA using a TV antenna motor so can fine tune weak stations plus I use a 10 metre long wire some times, In the afternoon I can pick up New Zealand on 7390 for a few hours but reception is down but still listenable enjoy your videos...
@@stephenwright8103 thank you for watching and commenting about this video. During the summer here in Florida I used to listen the Radio New Zealand in the mornings. I could get not get them in the evening. I was surprised they had such a good signal on the higher frequencies. I've always enjoyed their broadcasts.
@@SWLSignals23-hp6vp Hi at this moment listening to New Zealand on 7390 again readable if you pin your ears back lol I listen to New Zealand on my Roberts I stream 3L a nice sounding quality Radio do you listen on line?
No I don't listen online. I have no objections to it, I just don't.
Nice catch!
@@KarlWitsman thank you.
If you dont mind me asking, which of your MLA-30+'s tend to get better reception? The one that is higher, or lower? Thanks
The lower one. It surprised the heck out of me. I always heard that height was better, but maybe not for a loop antenna. I tried both on my SDR and the one at 3 ft has a lower noise floor, and seemed to bring in more signals. Here is a link to a video showing both antennas outside. ua-cam.com/video/AkKYzi6FpAQ/v-deo.html

Good to here the BBC is still out there. I used to listen to Cuba a lot, I don't think its on the air anymore.
I heard a station tonight on 6000kHz - eibispace.de frequency list showed it as Radio Habana Cuba, it was in Spanish, but not very good of a signal. I know they had damage to their transmitters during the last two hurricanes, but maybe they are working on getting back on the air.

I'm using SDR++ what size monitor do you recommend thanks...
@stephenwright8103 i would say at minimum of 27 inches. I'm not sure how many screens that software has, but a 27 should do nicely
@stephenwright8103 for perspective, my laptop is a 17 inch.
@@SWLSignals23-hp6vp Thanks for the reply I've got a new 15 inch hp laptop but felt a monitor of 24 or 27 inch would make viewing a lot better I'm going for the BenQ GW2790E 27 Inch you have made up my mind lol enjoy your videos cheers...
Excellent choice. If you get it, let me know how the noise is when you turn on the monitor. I have a lot of noise when I have my two monitors on that I use for work. Do you prefer SDRConsole or SDRUno?
@plls5 SDRConsole, but SDRUno is pretty good. I've been watching some videos on how to better use SDRUno since I didn't know about a lot of it's features and operation.
Cool stuff, I have no idea what it us, but as a network tech this sounds lovely. What is this demonstrating? What are you running?
@benincyprus i am using a Tecsun PL990X radio. It receives shortwave, longwave, medium wave (AM), and FM signals. What I am showing is a shortwave digital signal. After I posted this video, i found out this in the shortwave station WRMI. They were using a digital signal to transmit their broadcast called Radio Gram. The sounds were what is known as SSTV (slow scan TV), sending images over the air. They normally broadcast voice. I hope that provides an answer.
@SWLSignals23-hp6vp Thank you. The sounds reminded me of old weather satellite receivers.
