- USS CVN-78 Gerald R. Ford the American aircraft carrier, the lead ship of her class of United States Navy. This new generation ships will replace the old Nimitz class carriers as the flagships of the NAVY.
The ship is named after the 38th President of the United States, Gerald Ford, who served on the aircraft carrier during the World War II. USS Gerald R. Ford is the most complex and expensive ship ever built. In this video we will observe its advantages and features.

Thank you for actually voicing this video vs others who have a robot voice.
Mark I couldn't agree more. The reason a lot of those videos about military hardware have robot voices is because it sounds better than their Russian accents. UA-cam is full of bs videos comparing western and Russian military hardware
They do it for revenue and views as well I swear. Seems to just be 3 points to it... 1. Make a video 10+ minutes for add money, 2. Put on a free online robot voice over and 3. Copy+paste a military related news article pretty much word for word and don't do any research yourself.

Great video on the new CVN-78 Gerald Ford Aircraft Carrier!!
Nicely Done!!
What does CVN stand for?
What a magnificent ship! I look forward to more of your videos. Good to know there will be a new Enterprise in this class of carriers. You're right, it doesn't work without an Enterprise.
The US Navy has to have an Enterprise carrier! Glad to see it will.

Flight! I love your videos and really love this new one on the USS Gerald Ford. You are a great person.
I'm ex-RCN and served in the early 60s on the Atlantic. The HMCS Bonaventure was huge, 780 feet!
I should think the remark of 780 ft. being huge was tongue-in-cheek. The Bonaventure was originally HMS Powerful, a Majestic Class carrier commissioned way back in 1945, sold to the Canadian navy in 1957and renamed HMCS Bonaventure. It was decommissioned in 1970. She was Canada's last aircraft carrier.
I've heard the "reasons" as to why Canada and the UK don't have any nuclear powered vessels, and and I'm not convinced. (RIP, the stillborn Canada-class nuclear submarine). It's political bullshit, because both nations have the capabilities.
Thank you for your service. Semper Fi!!
The Nimitz carriers are nowhere near obsolete lol 😂
They should have laid down keels for at LEAST five more...not this turd!
As I understand it the Gerald R. Ford are not replacing the Nimitz-class aircraft carriers, but older supercarriers.
@@mwtrolle The first Ford class replaced the USS Enterprise, which was the only non Nimitz supercarrier in service until it was decommissioned some years ago. New Ford class carriers are to replace Nimitz class carriers as each one reaches the end of its 50 year service life.
the are only 5 Ford's ordered, if you take away the one that you say replaced Enterprise thats 4 and there are 10 Nimitz-class in service. But beside the the Nimitz's served CVN-65 Enterprise, CV-67 John F. Kennedy, the Kitty Hawk's and even to some extend the Forrestal's. The US Carrier number are at an all time low, as a result of the end of the cold war, but as tensions are at a raise both with Russia and China, Im pretty sure no Nimits-class will be redrawn any time soon.
@@mwtrolle There are still more planned. They're not going to put all of them on order just yet. It's possible they might cancel further plans and develop another class, but it's unlikely for the US to keep more Nimitz class carriers in service past their 50 year lifespans. The navy simply cannot afford it.
These videos are great and so informative without fluff.
True dat. No propaganda. No hyperbole. Just empirical info.
Well done. I served aboard USS Carl Vinson, CVN-70, and USS Abraham Lincoln, CVN-72, as well as one SSBN and two SSN's.
Cool....two REAL ships and two targets.
Then why don't you try to blow it and see what happen..you shit jealous brainless

A “flagship” is wherever the admiral of a fleet flies his flag.
That's the flagship of a Fleet. Not of the entire Navy.
For example: Bismarck was the Flagship of the Kriegsmarine as well as the Flagship of the Prinze Eugen-Bismarck Fleet.
Being Flagship of the Navy means that if this ship joins any fleet it will take over as Flagship.
@@thetrain47539 OK. The Ford is NOT the "flagship" of the US Navy. Indeed, though a carrier is the largest ship in a Carrier Strike Group (not a "fleet") the admiral normally resides on a cruiser, hence the cruiser is officially the flagship. A "fleet" in the US Navy tends to be an area of operation, not a group of ships.

In WW2, my ship, DD540 was very close to the Franklin and the Hancock when they were hit. It is an awful sight to see a major ship in distress, on fire, and exploding.
Wait, you were in WW2?!
My grandfather was on the DD-529 USS BUSH. His destroyer was hit by 3 kamakazis in Leyte Gulf in April 1945, between the stacks and was sunk. Many, many times I've tried to imagine what it must be like for a 20-something year old kid to go through that. - Thank you for your service.

Salute Mr Jaddy540! You served when we needed you. i get a glimpse of the scars you may have as my dad shared a lot of his with me.. My dad was with the VF-11 Sundowners on his second tour to Guadalcanal on the USS Hornet CV-12 at San Bernardino Strait on 26 October 1944, helping you and your shipmates against the Japanese. Dad is not around anymore he served on thru Korea with VF-111 Sundowners with tours there. He could have served into Vietnam but he told me he did not want to chance a third war and retired in 1964. Stellar content my dude!
Great job with the video!
A flag ship is any U.S. Navy ship with an Admiral aboard! Not the lead ship of a new class of ship! So says a retired Navy Chif Petty Officer!
Flagship, are used in many contends and often like the best of a "products"
www.quora.com/In-technology-what-is-the-exact-meaning-of-flagship
Will say these carriers are clearly the as good as they get!
@@mwtrolle In the US Navy, only the Admiral ranks get their own "flag" - thus, flagship. Some navies have a rank between Captain and Rear Admiral called "Commodore" (USN used to have it but does not anymore.) This rank also gets a flag, and a ship in such a navy with a Commodore aboard can also be a flagship. In joint operations, a Commodore is held as equivalent to the USN Rear Admiral Lower Half (RDML O-7.)
In addition, there is no flagship for the entire US Fleet. There are flagships for each of the Fleets of the Navy, as well as for Combined Task Forces. If there is an operation where there is more than one ship with an Admiral aboard, only one of the ships is flagship for that operation, and other ships with an Admiral aboard are not referred to as a flagship even though they will fly the appropriate flag for that Admiral.

Fantastic video, thank you.
Trust me brother this chanel is going to be very big....you have great content...just a few things I want to mention that may help you...
1.Try add some catchy lines in your thumb nail...for example for this ship you could have just written BIGGEST AND MOST POWERFUL SHIP EVER MADE.
2.There is a sector where most defence channel lack is regular upload...obviously this kind of great content can not be made that frequently...but there is solution to this, you know in international community there is lack of Defence News Reports...jist like keemstar you can upload daily defence news or may be in two days...you can take example of DEFENCE SQUAD,they have over a million subs but only problem with them is there regional and hindi speakig(indian) chanel. You can take this idea to global level with english and news from all over the world like mew develpments, conflict ,new pacts related to milliyary.
Otherwise you have got everything to make this channel big.
Glad a clear non-robotic voice

'nimitz class are obsolete'....
Erm, the 2nd to 11th most powerful surface warships afloat in the world are the 10 Nimitz class carriers.....
yes, great big targets..
iceblue1969 I’m sure the U.S. Navy is aware of that and thought of every situation against their weapon. The Ford is no Yamato.
Obsolete doesn't mean useless. They're obsolete because they're still using steam catapults, have less-efficient nuclear powered engine and have no laser defense technology. EVERY other country in the world would kill to have just one of them....
obsolete also means less efficient, the Nimitz were designed for a nuclear exchange. the corridors from weapons lockers to aircraft were alot of weird twists and turns making moving bombs and missiles difficult, ford class is making that a lot easier for the crew. Also, Nimitz class barely as the electricity for the modern day electronics systems, Ford class as of today barely uses 30% of the electricity generated, they have a huge buffer for all the potential tech in the future.
while yes Nimitz are still amazingly powerful ships still, they are showing their age and were only designed for 50years pushing them past that would start risking material issues and possible stress fractures. Then again the ford may have put in too many new shiny things..seeing as its still at Newport News ship building and from what I hear (I work on cvn 79), lots of issues still being addressed on it lol and then they're almost done with the JFK and thats gonna have its own issues lol
Not every country, where should Switzerland or Austria put them? ;)
Great video! Subbed.

I enjoyed the history segment.
Thank you for the plain information. What a ship she is. And indeed for the human voice - Nice.
I forsee the Carrier remaining the king of the seas for many years to come.
Till a shooting war
there have been discussion about a few battleships with all the new defense system. During WW2, 1 battleship was able to defend 2 carrier or even more light carrier. For a joint operation of multiple fleet, 1 battleship in the middle of them would help create an impenetrable shield.
Well, at least until diversity and inclusiveness training makes them Queens of the seas.
I think the U.S. learned how powerful aircraft carriers while fighting in the Pacific Theatre, not Pearl Harbor.
Japan focused on destroying americas battleships. They waited till the aircraft carriers were out of port to make it easier to destroy the BBs and cause carriers were considered little more than a accessory to the fleets. Americas sudden lack of BBs made them rethink their strategy and instead focus on carriers.
I like your content...very well put together, well-written, well researched. I subscribed. As long as you keep your personal biases and politics out of your videos, you WILL be a success on youtube I believe :) There is nothing worse than when I watch some other person's vid and you can tell right away that they are either a Russian fanboy or an American fanboy or Euro fanboy, I don't wanna hear spin, I am interested in the equipment and historical significance, that's ALL! And of the videos I've watched of yours I have not seen obvious bias :)
Amazing
Probably destroyers, subs or some similar ships will outdated carriers, with guided rocket systems aircraft may be used less.
Probably true in the near future, since even stealth aircraft are getting vulnerable to advanced AA defense systems, most notably S500s which its main purpose is defending against hypersonic cruise missiles, and even jamming aircraft. Even an F-117 Nighthawk was brought down by a cold war era ADS at the time when ECM systems are fairly advanced are difficult to penetrate. Plus there are hypersonic anti-ship missiles that even supercarriers may not always be immune to even with advanced early warning systems and a fully armed strike group. And who knows its the future we're talking about, it's not long before laser weapons will become too advanced that even orbital satellites will eventually be weaponized and used for orbital bombardments that can just easily split a supercarrier in half with a powerful sci-fi looking laser strike, but we got a treaty preventing that. For now.
In addition, carriers and their air wing are mainly used in CAS ops, go in fast, drop some bombs, get out. They don't usually spearhead the battle nor do they take the front lines so air support or use of aircraft won't be that much obsolete even from 50 years from now since air superiority is most important and a major turning point of battles.
Logistics will never be outdated and thats what ACC are for. You wanna be in a war or at least take control of it. You have to be able to project your power.
just imagine if the world, but military superpowers in particular, would spend that money on healthcare, scientific research and education of its citizens
Humans are emotional, they always fight
It would be a huge waste of money. Look at the disaster that is subsidized medicine in countries like Canada and in the EU; wait times are so long people die before they can be treated, the care is sub-par, and citizens are taxed 50% of their income to pay for someone else's medical coverage, medical coverage that they themselves may never use.
More government regulation is never the solution.
Or how about some gay pride parades and sex change operations for those claiming the opposite sex (since there are only two genders), how many LGBT celebrations could we have with all those billions of dollars?
We spend more on healthcare and education than any country in the world.
An excellent presentation, thanks 😃👌👌👌👏👏👏👏
Very well done and well spoken
Very impressive undertaking. The planning and effort it takes to make one of these ships is breathtaking for me. It's amazing what we humans can accomplish.
But, I wonder if they are really worth the expense. A worthy adversary can overcome these ships by flying hundreds of drones against them in suicide missions , or just releasing many missiles at the same time, multiplying the number of targets.
Having 0 carriers does not sound right. But, so many are really required? I think there is a lot of pork barrel politics going on here.
Take a look at a carrier task force. Many ships out there that have only one function. Protect the aircraft carrier. What country has hundreds of drones or that many missiles that a task force could defend against?
just hack in with a virus, blind them lol, nice ship tho, could of feed their homeless with that bundle
Wait!!! where is the "hello aviators" ???
Awesome super carrier
Very interesting and well done .
The flying component of a carrier is called an air *wing* , not an air *force* .
7:22 and 9:36 he did get it right. When did he mess up?
Though fun fact, one American CV's air wing is larger than the majority of any countries air force lol.
A “flagship” is any ship where the commander of a fleet resides.
Yeah, if an admiral is operating from a minesweeper then that minesweeper becomes the flagship!
If the admiral is on a tuna boat then that is the flagship.
As long as he has "transferred the flag" a phrase meaning to transfer operational control, otherwise the command remains the original ship. It would be awkward in an emergency if in Señor Grande's citation the tuna boat automatically became the flagship. I don't think tuna boats are equipped with a CIC, except maybe a sonar to find tuna.
Was on USS Enterprise CVN-65 from 92-96. Half that time was in the yards. I still wouldn't trade it for anything. I miss those days.
Thanks. Very interesting
no other nation can compete with Nimitz
this guy "its obsolete"
lol cool vid tho
Just wait & see..Nimitz is nothing
Ford is junk. This thing just stays tied to the pier. When it does go out to sea, it gets tugged back. What a piece of expensive shit. The Bush(CVN-77) is where its at. I spent a year on board and I was amazed at what they could do when they pulled out all the tricks on the old Nimitz design. Nimitz is dependable, cost effective, not really fast, but thats ok.
