  • Easy Off Oven Cleaner furniture stripping hack! Does it really work? Hmmmmm. YES most of the time. Today I'm sharing why it's NOT working though. I alway promise to share the good and the bad with you guys. Afterall, you can't win em all right?
    Full disclosure; Easy off Oven Cleaner does work like magic! That being said, it won't work on ALL wood surfaces. Then again, neither does any other paint stripper.

    It’s nice to see a video where the poster work through how a technique may or may not work and why. So many videos are just sped up versions of success stories without any background or possible pitfalls. Gonna follow you and see your work. Thanks!!

    Thank you for sharing. As someone getting ready to strip my first of furniture I now have better expectations of what can happen rather than being scared that I’ve ruined a piece of furniture if it doesn’t come out like the perfect video. I’m more excited to try now. I also will be working with mahogany and have been nervous about ruining the furniture.

    Thanx for posting this video. You gave me insight and info I didn’t get from other oven cleaner stripping video’s. Keep up the good work.

    I was able to keep some furniture of the home I rent, and one of those pieces is a TV stand that has kinda the same finish as your table. Now that I was able to buy some of my own stuff the TV stand doesn't really match. I will definitely give it a try though.

    I’m just guessing, but I bet that piece of furniture is covered in lacquer as the finish. That being the case, you need to wipe it down with lacquer thinner first, otherwise it will take tons of oven cleaner to cut it completely.

    I just finished my FOURTH coat of traditional strippers on a small mahogany table. Two of Citristrip (worthless) and two of Klean Strip (better but super stinky). The finish is still not gone and I even left a coat on overnight sealed in Saran. I've spent over $30 on strippers. I'm going to try this in the morning.

    I use it, should have covered in saran wrap for 1 hour to prevent it from drying.

    So it's ok to spray such a large surface at once?

  • @chattykathie7129
    @chattykathie7129 2 роки тому +1

    My can didnt to say shake. Maybe that’s why mine didn’t foam and it didn’t spray very well.

    Please keep me posted on what works because I'm trying to find the best method for this type wood.

    Do you once oven cleaner applied if covered with saran wrap it'd work better?

    • @RepurposeandUpcycle
      @RepurposeandUpcycle  2 роки тому

      The oven cleaner isn't intended to "sit" on the surface for hours, so I'm not sure.

      @@RepurposeandUpcycle You're correct, it's intended to break down the outer polymer bonds and thus making the scraping and subsequent sanding much easier. If it is left on too long it can begin to allow the stain and the cleaner to soak in further and ruin the piece you were hoping to salvage/upcycle. I think in this case there was some insane varnish/lacquer put on by a factory that was far too thick/tough for this method of stripping.

    So if the furniture has lacquer I guess I could light sand the top?

    pretty sure oven cleaner is used on painted furniture to remove paint not stained and lacquered pieces?

      oven cleaner will strip the layers off, not necessarily just paint.

    You definitely didn’t do this right. You didn’t saturate it Neely enough. It should be completely covered in a thick layer of white.

    I'm on plan... R... trying to get the caked on grease and varnish off these nasty ass cabinets in this filthy condo I just rented. I've tried TSP, Dawn, Baking Soda/Vinegar, Heat Gun, 3 brands of degreaser, Wheel/Tire cleaner... ugh. I hate this. I cannot even get to the painting step, because I don't know how to clean this filth.

    I would have on a respirator, thin mask you have on is not enough to protect your lungs, and it sends a bad message just saying. And I would have a drop cloth down.
