How to Strip Furniture Using Oven Cleaner | ANTIQUE DRESSER MAKEOVER

- Опубліковано 22 лют 2022
- I woke up today with a mission. A mission to see if the rumors were true. Can you really strip wooden furniture using oven cleaner? I was SHOCKED by the results. I have been using citristrip & sand paper to strip wood for YEARS and this whole time I could have been using OVEN CLEANER. How to get the raw wood look has never been easier. Stripping furniture with all of those little grooves would have been incredibly tricky with the traditional sand paper and stripper products. This is the craziest DIY furniture hack I have ever tried and it paid off BIG TIME. I loved this trash to treasure transformation. Bring on furniture flipping in 2022! Definitely more stripping furniture with Easy Off Oven Cleaner to come!

I will never get used to watching you put direct water on wood lol 😵💫😵💫😵💫
Im also wondering about all that water on the wood?
Interesting! Never heard of using oven cleaner. Side note: thank you for not painting it. It physically hurts me to see antique wood painted over!
You are so silly. No one will buy it brown honey, you have to paint it to make the good money. You say it hurts you, but you won’t buy it from me brown, so shut up
The only issue is oven cleaner is horrible for the environment. I want to have pieces look this great but, I question if I'm okay using it with the toxicity issue?
Haha, the sound of your mom running away to not be in the video made me laugh. 😂 But seriously, thank you for sharing this! I actually don't mind sanding at least larger pieces (I guess I go into some kind of meditative state when I sand... 😄) but there are definitely times when I would prefer an alternative. Especially chairs I'm thinking, those always suck dealing with....
What a beautiful piece of furniture! Incredible detail… So happy to see that this worked for you!
Your videos are so encouraging…keep up the good work!!
That piece is GORGEOUS! Thank you for always sharing your discoveries.
Wow!!! That’s incredible! I love the raw wood look, too.
Thank you, Amanda. It’s great to see different perspectives on this process. I think it also depends on if the piece is painted or just has a varnish/polyurethanes topcoat as your piece had. Great channel! Love watching you 😊
OMG!!! That piece is gorgeous!!!😻😻😻
Crazy cool, love that natural look. I'm gonna do this when I find a piece of furniture I can't live without !
I LOVE this! Trying this out with an oak dining table right now, amazed at the result so far.
I love the raw look here. Thanks for this video!
Thanks Amanda, great video. I too have been reluctant to use oven cleaner to strip wood furniture. Now I will definitely try it!
I am in love with this piece!!!! ❤ You did an amazing job, I will keep an eye out for a similar piece to try this technique. Thank you for sharing.
Good to see you again! This is so interesting! Your results are fabulous! Like others I thank you for not painting this beautiful piece! The raw wood tone is gorgeous!
Omg! It is gorgeous. I love the depth in the details with the left behind stain. I’m definitely trying once the weather is warmer. I may use some wax to seal so it doesn’t dry out.
no freaking way. I can't believe that. my mind is totally blown!!! going to do this this weekend on my dining table. a-mazing!!!
WOW,I definitely will remember this!. The dresser is so pretty.
Mind Blown!!! That is a beautiful piece!!! I love your videos! You always make me laugh! Thank you!
I just tried this and was really pleased with the results, I think it works better with lighter finishes/lacquer. I did lightly sand my piece afterwards. It’s so pretty now. I think I will seal with Dixie Belle flat sealer. I will definitely do it again!
This gives me so much inspiration! I hate sanding wood so I’m definitely going to try this I hope it turns out as good as your piece did! 🤩
Beautiful Results!!!😍
Amazing thank you. I was nervous to try this but few much more prepared and up for it!
This piece turned out amazing! You've convinced me to give it a try!
Girl, you work so hard !! Glad this technique is workin for ya. And you said Kacha’s name perfectly 👍🏻🥰
i love the raw wood look so much and my new favorite thing is flat wood varnish !! it rocks!
Amazing transformation, thank you for the review and who knew.....oven cleaner wow
I love it, it came out amazing ❤
Most people love this oven cleaner hack . I think you have to be in a well ventilated space and odorless cleaner is the way to go ! I love your piece.
Chemical stripper tends to not damage the wood fibers as bad as oven cleaner..
I will try this. Thanks for the video. Loved the results on your piece. I just got a carbide steel scraper and man, it has changed my life! It is great for taking a finish off a flat surface. So satisfying and so quick and no goopy mess or fumes. All that aside, it would not work on a detail piece like yours, but you might want to give it a try on a less detailed piece.
Love your videos and dig your style! That was so cute with your Mom! And laughed during the end of your last video with the fashion show! 🤣
I m waiting until I can open my garage, but definitely ready to try the oven clean 🤗💕
I’ve seen a few of these videos. Yours has convinced me!
I’m trying!
I use a little brass brush to clean out the crooks and crevices and it works great. It doesn’t scratch the wood if you use it lightly and it definitely removes the left over finish left in those spots.
Game changer! Thanks Amanda!
Your face during the reveal 🤣 It looks great!
I've seen the Oven Cleaner headlines everywhere and was kinda horrified... but once I saw your experience I am a believer! My kitchen table may be up next. That dresser is gorgeous! Thanks for the video.
This is blowing my mind!
It came out so good!! For that random little spot maybe try watered down antiquing wax from waverly (sold at Walmart) to give it a light tint? Love watching your channel!
We had a wood table and chairs for about 20 years. It was stained a black with some brown undertones. The thing I do love about it, it has beautiful carving all the way around just under the table top as well as on the first, top piece across the chair backs. I knew that I would never be able to sand around all of those details. I have heard for a couple of years about using easy off but was afraid of destroying it. You video blew me away. I’m going to show this to my husband to see if we can get him onboard to try this. One time I convinced him to use Cristi strip wrapped with plastic wrap overnight but he left the piece where it would be in the Sun the following day and it dried like hard glue! We couldn’t even sand it off. Needless to say, he’s not thrilled about trying something again. Cross your fingers that I can do this experiment and be as successful and pleased as you were!
I have the same problem with sanding things and it prevents me from buying certain pieces. I’m so glad to see this option.
Wait….. what??? Oven cleaner?!?! I’m sooo trying this!! Thank you so much for sharing!! Your chest of drawers turned out beautiful!!
Amanda! I love your videos-I feel like I need to hear from you more though!! Love your style, your personality, and the way you edit your videos. So creative in all ways!!
Thank you so much Jeff! I’m working on getting more content out. I appreciate the compliments! ❤️
Amazing 🤩 thank you for the video!!!
Beautiful piece.
New to your channel. Went to the beginning to watch, just now commenting, this is really good to know.
Hi Amanda’s Mom! ☺️
I sanded my kitchen cabinets down to bare wood and applied Johnson’s Paste Wax to protect them from drying out. It doesn’t change the color or look of the wood at all. Also Minwax satin finish Polycrylic will protect the wood and leaves hardly any sheen at all, but I prefer the wax. That piece turned out wonderfully! Thanks for this tutorial!! ☺️
Wow Easy-E Off Thank You I'm going to Try that.
GIIRRRRLLLLL THIS. IS. INCREDIBLE!!
Thank you! I’m super impressed with how well this stuff worked!
That's totally amazing 😃
I’m gonna try this. I don’t strip furniture, I always paint, but i really like this option. TFS.
Oh MY GOSH! I love love love this! I hate stripping... I love it after the project is complete but not the actual act!! I cannot wait to try this!! Thank you! Thank you! Thank YOU! I will also tell the intake Porch as well! Also love the piece too! thank you, Paula
Interesting video! I’ve seen one other piece done with this technique but yours came out much better. For the key hole on the top drawer can you find a metal key hole escutcheon plate to put on there?
Awesome video
I saw this on Instagram and plan on trying it on two hard rock maple floor lamps. They’re up at our cottage and I was ready to re-donate them until I saw the oven spray method. Wish me luck!
I miss your blogs!, please do more!❤❤
Thank you Patti! Will do!
Yes, I saw the video with "Kacha," I believe it was. I will try on a vintage piece that has a dark stain on it to see how it works. I will definitely be outside due to strong chemicals. Thanks for sharing.
I am so glad someone has finally hit the goopiness of strippers head on. I thought it was just me with all the love you hear! I really like the bit of old finish in the fine work coming thru - this is great!
I worried about how it would dry out the wood. I would oil this piece several times. Let it drink its fill.
This is great! I love the piece. For the top keyhole issue, I wonder if you put an antique key in there and hung a beautiful ribbon from it, if that would just cover the area, instead of having to fix it. Just an idea. Thanks for posting this.
What an interesting idea. I’ll have to try that as well. 😁
So interesting. Thanks for sharing.
She only did 15 mins I believe. I was nervous for you...buy it did wonderful! Love it!!
That was awesome 👍
Uh oh🤣 hey Ma👋…awesome!
🤣🤣🤣🤣 you are so freaking funny.
& yes, I’ve used this technique... works well, but I still had to sand it down.
I’m working on another piece right now that I’ll have do some light sanding too after the stripping process 🙄 hate sanding!
Oh my, is it that simple? Thanks for the heads up. This is a game changer for sure. Add safety goggles to that equipment line up. Splash back when scrubbing with a brush does happen.
Excellent job,, I really liked the look. Do you know if even cleaner would work on painted furniture?
Hi! Subscribed❤️ Lu-huved this video. Do you seal the piece after done?🤷♀️
My mind is blown!
Mind blown!
I did see someone on Utube do this. I thought it was amazing.
Loved it.i will be using that for now on.thank you.💖🧡👍👍👍👊awesome🎶
Amazing!!!! OMG oodness!!! Thank you for sharing this!!! .👍❤🇺🇲
Thank you for watching!
What in the McGyver is this!!!??? How have I not heard of oven cleaner being used for this!!!?? ThAnK YOU!!!!!
Oh I LOVE the hardware 😂
love the idea! does this work on stripping paint off furniture also?
Aamazing!
Awesome!!!!!!!!
Did it kill the grass where the water runoff is?
Results depend on what the finish is on your piece. Looks like your piece had shellac on it, it would be a different result if the finish was polyurethane.
Sorry if I missed this but was 1 can of the oven cleaner enough to do this piece? Thank You. It’s beautiful by the way. Love the look. Going to try this method myself 😁
You really do need to do this outside even if your using low odour cleaner,
I would love to see it wiped down with a natural oil. Dry looking furniture isn’t my thing so I refinish with baby oil. But wow the oven cleaner is rad.
So I tried this method after watching your video, it felt like more work than sanding! :/ I'm not sure where I went wrong but it didin't get everything off even though I did everything I could. So I will still have to sand once it dries
Applause!!!
Wondering if it needs to be warm outside or could you do this in cold weather?
I'm glad you're leaving it as is and that odd spot maybe put a small ornate piece there just a suggestion
I never heard you could do this either. Is it possible to take the top drawer and put it on the bottom spot. May not be as noticeable?
We never liked sanding because it just didn't work. The residue always seemed to gum up the paper on finer grits or leave scratches that were tough to get out if you used coarser grit
I think this works great for pieces not easily sanded or is the horrible golden orange wood color.
To clean the oven the can says warm the oven to 200 and I tried todo it outside in 10 degrees freezing weather it didn’t work as well as it could.
Wait till you see what it does on painted things😁it's anazing
FYI my favorite Virginia UTube’r. I use the brush attachment for my drill for all scrubbing. Cost effective kit from Amazon. Save the human 😂. I ignored the oven cleaning hack till now. Michigander from ole Virginie. Elizabeth
Ooh, good point! *makes mental note to remember * 🙂
How many cans did you end up using for this piece?
I wonder if it will work on painted furniture??
Does this work on painted surfaces.
Tried this today on a bench that I wanted to restain and it did NOT work for me. I've had this bench for a little over 2 years and it was partially sanded, but had areas that were harder to sand, thus why I decided to try the oven cleaner. May just put the bench to the road for free, for someone else to pick up and finish themselves.
How many can of oven cleaner did u use
Did the oven cleaner damage the lawn when it drained into it...
