How to Build a Modern Shoe Bench {With ONE 2x10 Board!}

  • My friend, Lindi, from Love, Create, Celebrate asked me to join in on her "Scraps Made Modern" series and challenged me to create something modern from what I had in my scrap pile.
    While I have tons of cut offs, I also had this one leftover 2x10x8 board that I had purchased for a project, but ended up not using. So TECHNICALLY, it may not have been "scrap wood," it was a leftover piece I had no use for.
    So I turned that one board into this simple modern shoe bench perfect for an entryway. It was so fun getting creative and trying to make the most of this single board. Check out how I did it in this video and head over to grab the full plans here:

    And check out the other 2x10x8 project I built here (it's a fun bar cart project!):

    Then head over to Love Create Celebrate's Scraps Made Modern project video here:

    I decided that this would be the perfect first woodworking project for me. You made it look so easy, so I thought I would give it a shot. While I had to use more than 1 board, I finally finished it today! Thanks for your inspiring video. 😃

    Nice job as always! Great use of a single piece of wood. I like that you decided to paint the base black too. Keep up the good work!

    I have watched a few of your videos. Great projects. Good flow. When you drop a bead of glue and just, seemingly effortlessly, drive a pocket hole screw in perfectly, it just seems like magic! Meanwhile I am creating jigs and clamping like crazy to achieve the same result.

    By having the top rest on the crossmembers, all weight on the bench is concentrated on four screws. It should be fine since people’s feet are on the floor and it’s a one person bench. Pointing that out for those who might use the same design for larger projects - like my wife that wants one now. Thanks a lot... 😺

    Great idea! You should do a series on single board projects! That would be awesome!
