Amazing history around there. The barn looked like an abandoned church, such a wonderful building with the oak and stone. Thanks for showing this area.
That damage is repairable Sandy, remove existing paint, thin skim of filler over the small dent, rub down and a couple of coats of primer on the seat tube followed by a couple of coats of paint colour . Take the bike into your local automotive paint supplier/factor, they can scan the existing colour and make up an aerosol can for you. That's an easy repair, the important bit is the preparation part, plenty of UA-cam videos showing you the procedure. Enjoy the Dragon Rally (brave man!!) Look forward to seeing your Vlog - please make it a nice long one!!🙂
Lovely old Tithe barn there Sandy. Im sure there are some historians interested in your channel who can correct me if I'm wrong but I was told that the Tithes were collected and oversaw by the Shire Reef. Most Reefs were ruthless in their pursuit of the taxes owed to either church or Crown. A Reef being a wealthy landowner having livestock and cattle to his name and appointed by the Crown, obviously the Shire being the county. When America was settled that name followed them overseas and was given to the area peace keepers. Sheriff.
A little "battle scar" won't take away from the great memories and affection that you have for your beautiful old bike Sandy. It will just be another chapter in the journey that you have had with that wonderful machine, all is well. You have a new name for that old bike now, you might affectionately call it "Nick". That was a fantastic ride that you were on here. It was about as picturesque as one could ever hope for. Those sturdy and beautiful old buildings and fences that you passed were just absolutely amazing. As always, thank you so much for including us in your journeys my good friend. Enjoy your upcoming motorcycle rally, see you on the next one.
Thanks Terry there is a lot of real old history and buildings around these parts. Glad you enjoyed the ride, not sure I will call the bike "Nick" though. I've had this bike well over 40 years now:)
Hopefully, you can cosmetically, bring your bike back to it’s former glory. Another great video thanks. Hope you enjoy the dragon rally, did it regularly for ten or so years, until my mate (quite a few years my junior!) had enough of the elements. It’s worth every drop of rain, snow, sleet and frost. Have a great weekend👍
Thank you so much for sharing your family small town villages with a American viewer like myself. I truly treasure the English country side and the stone houses and fences. It blows my mind how a old church that is so painstakingly was built so long ago with such rich history be left abandon. As for the bike sandy sans it down and gave it primed then paint blended as you don’t want it to corrode in your weather there in England. Very nice old touring bike even down to the front pannier racks. Always remember that with the extra weight on the handle bars with the bag it will easily turn your handle bars and when that happens the bike rolls out and then falls. Good way to prevent this is to use a quick release strap on the down tube and front wheel. I used to tour and race for many years and worked in a bike shop. I worked for specialized bikes back in the day.
Hi Sandy, lovely scenes, thatched roofs, beautiful church & the snowdrops,a sight to see,as for the bike I understand how upset it makes you feel,I’ve done similar things over the years,I think a man of your skills could do a first class repair, but in the scheme of things of what’s going on in the world I know you will put it down to part of your adventures, atb Colin P.
Shame about the bike but just like people as you get older you pick up a few battle scars. That Tithe barn was amazing, a 1000 years old. Just imagine the generations that looked at the roof over the years. Thanks for taking us along for the ride.
Hi Sandy, don`t forget, your bicycle is a material item, the main thing is your ok. I look forward to your trip, it will be enjoyable to watch of that I am sure. Stay safe.🙏🙏
Hi Sandy, just checked the weather for you, light cloud and a gentle breeze saturday ,sunday , sunny intervals and a gentle breeze, both days cold, but hey, it is the dragon rally, good luck buddy, enjoy yourself, cant wait for the video.
Sorry to hear about your bike. It’s great if you can use your bike instead of your car.. I think you are trained already . Good luck with it. I love to see dogs reaction when you are gone ten minutes or two hours! It’s like they haven’t seen you all week. lol. Thanks for sharing. Tony.
Hi Sandy, I'm sorry to see the damage to your lovely bike, however, you are safe and well, and the bike was rideable, which is a bonus. Lovely to see the warm greeting from the dogs, they are little beauties. Stay safe, fond regards to you, your lovely wife and the dogs.
Once again my husband and I have really enjoyed watching you as you cycle round our local area. I cycled to Coleshill myself last week, to buy a cabbage..... We do admire you, and I wonder how many other people who have had a brain tumour would do this sort of thing.
I think many people who have had a major illness become more motivated to make the most of things perhaps more so than if the illness had never occurred! I do have a few ongoing issue's but they won't hold me back:)
Shame about the damage to the bike, I hate when any of my stuff gets a knock. Anyway, lovely ride, you passed some stunning buildings and beautiful scenery and hats off to you for clocking the miles during winter.
It is a shame, but it is a tool, and has done you proud, and will continue to do so.. your weekend ahead sounds like a good one, hope Mr Solar Face smiles on you....
Nice ride today and sorry to see you got that ding in the top tube. Looking forward to seeing the trip on the Dragon. We have a road named that here too in Tennessee. It looks like your rallies are a little more adult minded than ours get here. After going to Daytona and seeing people making a public hazard of themselves, I have stayed with much smaller groups ever since.
WOW that barn Sandy , beautiful , and still standing the test of time . I feel your pain with the ding to your bike Sandy . I've just started getting back out on my SURLY , a present to myself for my 50th , she weighs about the same as a tank but i love being out on her . Fingers crossed you enjoy a pleasant tail wind on your upcoming cycle adventure . Stay well Sandy .
Beautiful ride through the country . Sorry for the damage inflicted on your trusty steed . I’ve noticed that when ever I park my bike especially when the front forks are loaded with gear , the bike has a mind of its own . I’ve installed some 1”x12” strips of velcro on the handlebar next to the brake levers . When I park I wrap them around brake levers . When I’m back under way they just dangle on the bars . There’s also a product called a deflopinater that keeps the front wheel pointed foward . I’ve enjoyed your adventures . Thank you from Tacoma Washington USA .✌️😎
Excellent Sandy , I wish I could get out on my Bicycle, but hopefully soon really enjoyed thta run you did Shame about the bike you are like me they become part of my,,, like my radios I hope to get my aerials back up soon. ... cheers for now Trig
Oh, the old Romany. Can I suggest you get some chemical metal or Milliput for the gouge and rub down with wet & dry papers and get down to Halfords if possible for a little tub of touch up paint. Loved the old barn. I'm a seasonal timber framer for Sessile Oak in Cumbria. I work there during the summer and come back to Spain for winter.
Sorry your bike got damaged however it would have been worse had it been carbon or aluminium..so many beautiful villages that you showed us....a really enjoyable video....looking forward to see your video of the cycleway....Best wishes
Enjoyed this latest vlog Sandy. As for the damage to crossbar on your bike. I would fill with a little metal filler, rub it down and spray with a similar grey metallic to match or contrast the crossbar to the rest of the frame. Easy job done. 😊👍
Not sure where the Dragon Rally is to be held this year. If you're in Betws y Coed our paths may cross and I'll buy you a brew or beer. Have a safe journey up here.
I know how you must feel about damaging your old bike after having damaged the forks of my 1990's Dawes Audax bike in a slow speed, freak accident a couple of years ago. I was heartbroken. I really enjoy your videos. That looks a beautiful part of the country. Keep them coming. Best wishes from Northumberland.
Always enjoy your videos Sandy, I've been subscribed for years, always humbled and fascinated by your knowledge, local history and unbounded enthusiasm to try new things. Sorry about the top tube damage, you might be able to get a small vinyl wrap to match your paint
Great video Sandy and good to see you getting the miles in. At least that damage is out of sight and hopefully out of mind now you’ve covered it. It’s always horrible when nice things take a knock like that, but I suppose if we worried too much we would be frightened to use them. I’ve discovered a bit of rust on one of my steel frames which I hadn’t noticed before. It’s really annoying when you take good care of something and things like that happen beyond our control. Hope you enjoy your motorcycle event.
Thankyou sandy that was lovely, that bike still looks great mate, you could get the dent pulled out but it's not realy worth it, just another little reminder of a great ride out.
That camera is a mouthful! Put a splint onto the dented tube Bro w a couple good clamps- better than new! On 2nd thought- JB weld would be best! Entropy- the Creation is running down my friend. How wonderful our transport will be, when Jesus we do see!
I share your passion for keeping your tools/toys in good mechanical and cosmetic shape. This video was an enjoyable ride through your countryside. I appreciate your connections to the area. Thanks
Your bike is brilliant and is great with or without the cover . It’s such a better way to be out than in your awful motorcycle- they are so bad for our world but what is good for our world are your fab videos the ones closest to nature and especially seeing the dogs - keep going Sandy
Mr. Wiltshire Man: sorry to see the damage to the top tube on your bicycle. I guess you could say the fix to your top tube would be a two fold fix 1. it hides the damage. 2. with the foam and zip ties there and your foot ever slipped off the pedal I suppose it may relieve the pain somewhat. LOL. about the eye issue have you tried ski googles when cold weather riding. Great videos keeping them coming!
You really are the best Sandy, you make a simple bike ride into a fantastically interesting video. So sorry for your lovely old bikes damage, always seems to be the things we treasure the most that get damaged doesn't it. Wish I could get to the rally this weekend but alas I'm working Saturday, anyway have a great time and hopefully you can share some of the day with us via UA-cam 😊
Gutted for you, a moment's lapse in concentration leaves a painful reminder. My bikes have suffered similar damage. I simply smeared a little grease on the wound then wrapped in insulation tape. Might be unsightly to some but it's covered. Nice little ride, and that barn was huge. Good luck on your latest adventure 👍
Lovely video Sandy . When you’re doing that ride I saw Gillingham on the route . If you’re looking for repairs, refreshment or any other help send a message 👍
I feel your pain Sandy, just a split second and wham, then so many hours after to curse and regret! A similar thing happened to my Himalayan. Parked on the side stand on a slight camber at a petrol station forecourt, the wind caught the bike and it fell away from me, ripped my hand up as I tried to prevent it toppling and couldn't. It put a dirty great dent in the tank where it struck the thick support pillar holding the canopy up. I was not amused!
Hi Sandy, lovely video as always. Best of luck on your latest challenge. If it fit’s in with your schedule, The Horseshoe Inn at Ebbesbourne Wake is worth a visit. Quaint family run pub. Closed Mon, Tue. If not, I’m sure you’ll find some great stops.
I have the same bar bag but found that it made the bike far too liable to falling over like that so I took it off and rely purely on my panniers now. Lovely ride out Sandy. JBJ ...-.-
Haaha JBJ Rupert. I think the bar bag is handy but I also believe it caused the bike to fall over. From now on I'm just going to lay it on the left hand side.
nice shot coming up to the wall, she must have come down hard on that corner to dent the tube, same weather here cold but sunny, great conditions for photos, cold on the face though, I too went out yesterday to a snow drop place to get a picture.Don't come a cropper with the dental go pro mount attached;)
As I found out, your off road riding skills on a motorcycle will come in handy when entering and exiting the camp site although the weather has been dry for a week or more so it might not be to bad but it depends where it is. Good luck.
What a lovely ride, Sandy. That Tithe barn was absolutely gorgeous. Shame about the bike damage, but I was thinking battle damage just before you called it a war wound. You still have the choice as to whether or not to cover it with a decal. Up to you my friend. Best of luck with the training & the ride. Looking forward to watching it👍
Sandy, I have been waiting anxiously for a new video. You are the only person I know who really shows the beauty of the area I come from - Wiltshire- best county in the U.K. by far IMHO. On another note, I stupidly moved away from Upper Stratton in November. Missed the area ever since. BUT , as of 10th March I’m moving back - found a place not far from the Kingsdown. So happy days again. Brilliant video as always Sandy. See around Stratton or at the Dockle someday.
Beautiful day for a ride out Sandy , I looked at one of the mouth mounts but having a couple of crowned teeth my luck I would bust them 😂😂 a sticker would of hid the damage lol I normally drop and scratch brand new bikes . The trip looks decent you have planned , so I will look forward to that 👍 I have a few in the pipeline myself but work gets in the way … atb Dave
Argos cycles in Bristol will repair your bike no problem at all. Thanks for the videos. I’m a proper “moonraker” (born in Devizes) and now living in Devon but come back to Wiltshire as much as possible to ride audax events. Lovely one two weeks ago from Ashton Keynes up to Whitley area.
Sorry your lovely bicycle is damaged Sandy. I did a slightly worse thing to my 1987 Dawes Galaxy and as the top tube was actually bent, I stripped it and sent the frame off to a frame builder. I still have the bike but sadly not the time to ride it!
Hi chap ... you could possibly tidy up that top tube with a bit of car body filler ...something like P38 and then see if you can match the paint as best you can .... just a thought 🙂
Unless the dent has sharp corners, the only damage is to the looks. A bit of clear nail varnish, Humbrol paint or - if you're really bothered - some filler, and it should be fine.
@@WiltshireMan I dinged the top tube on my bike some years ago, l filled the dents with Metal Epoxy putty, it sands back perfectly, and is as hard as nails.
Hi, Nice video. Shame about the bike but we have all done it, one way or another. I think its just part of life. Some one once wisely said to me, its not what you have done but how you cope with it. And i think you coped very well. Lovely old Bike.
Sandy Great video as usual, Coleshill as you said was a top secret special forces camp "during the war" the guys were trained to hide underground, camp out and they was tasked if we was invaded to destroy the infrastructure, swap road signs around (although most was already removed) and the ultimate task was to remove the Prime Minister to prevent him being captured by the enemy. The selected solders would have to report to Highworth post office and then would be collected by an army van shut in the back and driven about 30 miles on a 4 mile distance to the next village. Next fact about Coleshill one of the early Beetles managers lived there (I used to do his cars). and fun fact the pub in little Coxwell it was owned/run by Liverpool footballer/Match of the day commutator Mark Lorro Lawrenson (and used to do his cars). And love the barn Ive never been in it despite living most of my life 20 mins away.
Hi Tim, your right about the Highworth post office and Mrs Stranks, I know all about it and have also been in some of the underground bunkers. Also knew about the Beetles connection and where they stayed. My brother runs a small local taxi chauffer service aand used to regularly pick up George Martin and his wife
The barn was amazing! You should look for Charlie from Rest Day Rider UA-cam channel at the Dragon Rally . I think she is from the Wiltshire area ,and rides a black Himi.
Great Vid as always Sandy. You live in a beautiful part of the country, so thanks for sharing your rides out. I have a bar bag which is great but I do find it makes the front end less stable especially when pushing the bike with one hand on the saddle, I now have a semi ridged top bag for my rear rack that works a teat, just a thought mate. The tithe barn is amazing and such a large one as well, I enjoyed seeing around the inside and the way the 12th century carpenters put that together, probably without a single nail being used, certainly in the main structure. I'm looking forward to the cornucopia of videos coming up, as always keep safe. ATB Big Dave Scotland
Get yourself a kickstand Sandy there cheap and lightweight and eliminate the need to prop your bike up against things . They also help when loading panniers Rockbros do a good one thats also adjustable for lean angle .
Real shame about the top bar, but with a littlle bit of filler, elbow grease and spray paint, it could be as good as it was. Gorgeous day to be out and about, anyway, and the countryside is starting to wake up nicely. Hope you enjoy the Dragon Rally and maybe a couple of pints of Brains or Cwrw Eryri (Snowdania Ale).
Hi Sandy was hoping to catch up at the Dragon however bad luck for me. The Himalayan packed up on Thursday on my way to Wales. Had to get it recovered so its no go for me first time its let me down. Gutted as planned 4 days in Wales, Ride safe mate catch up soon
You should have a very enjoyable Dragon Rally this year Sandy, weather is looking ideal. My first was in torrential rain on a little air-cooled dt125 I borrowed of a mate.
@@WiltshireMan glad you enjoyed it. The rev limiter crew always feel the need to make themselves heard. I've got a couple of early Dragon Rally badges that were left to me, they reside on my Dragon hat with mine, 89 was my first.
A pity about the frame dent. Reynolds 531 tubing is lightweight and springy but thin walled and easily dented. I would recommend getting a chainstay fitted kickstand as they are very practical.
How long has the Dragon been going on we did it once when god was a lad. Some clown kept us up all night reinflating his daft tent with a spark plug adapter in his goldwing. Great rally but for that oh the pub was a long walk. Have fun.
Wonderful way to get around and see things you don't see at 30 mph. Perfect.
1950 wasn't 70 years ago..... oh hold on.... blimey I am getting old .... great vid as ever Sandy.
Looks like a lovely pub Charles, I just went on their website:)
Keep them coming, always enjoyable vids bud
Hey sandy, it’s very cold at night up here in north wales 🏴 so make sure you bring very good thermals 🥶😁👍
Ouch yes that wouldn't be nice to crash with the mouth mount, must remember to spit:) Soon be Spring Garry.
As I found out, your off road riding skills on a motorcycle will come in handy when entering and exiting the camp site although the weather has been dry for a week or more so it might not be to bad but it depends where it is. Good luck.
Ah..that new camera mount will put a smile on your face. True grit.
Time and work always gets in the way Dave, so it's all about finding the balance. I have to go to work myself now! :)
Love these trips Sandy! I have to take issue with you though, the 50's were just a few years ago. I know cause I was born in 1950. LOL
I will look out for you on the Wiltshire Cycleway in the Westbury / Warminster areas -Good luck with the iconic Dragon Rally -Enjoyed your video 👍👍
Thanks James we must have a meet up this year
@@WiltshireMan Certainly Sandy -Thank you 👍👍
Argos cycles in Bristol will repair your bike no problem at all. Thanks for the videos. I’m a proper “moonraker” (born in Devizes) and now living in Devon but come back to Wiltshire as much as possible to ride audax events. Lovely one two weeks ago from Ashton Keynes up to Whitley area.
Poor old bike a lick of spray paint be like new love watching your videos biking around Wiltshire brings back a lot of good memories for me.
Yes I agree with you
@@WiltshireMan I dinged the top tube on my bike some years ago, l filled the dents with Metal Epoxy putty, it sands back perfectly, and is as hard as nails.
Hi, Nice video. Shame about the bike but we have all done it, one way or another. I think its just part of life. Some one once wisely said to me, its not what you have done but how you cope with it. And i think you coped very well. Lovely old Bike.
Great video Sandy. Damage can be repaired. Annoying but things happen
great ride Sandy pity abot the dent but man your talent should have no problem fixing it.
Thanks for the video Mr W, enjoy the rally and make sure you wipe all of that rank salt off of chug (poor chug😀)
Chug has been de salted, washed and dryed and given a light coating of gt85
Maybe a top of the head 360 camera would be more practical. You can choose your view later.
I have been known to put foam pipe lagging on my bike cross bar to stop scratches when you lean it against things
Yes David I did notice how the bar bag made the bike a little less stable especially as you say when wlaking with the bike
Get yourself a kickstand Sandy there cheap and lightweight and eliminate the need to prop your bike up against things . They also help when loading panniers Rockbros do a good one thats also adjustable for lean angle .
Beautiful ride. That wasn’t a barn it was a cathedral.
That barn and the villages were amazing incredibly beautiful 😍
When you come over to visit again Paul I'll take you on a tour
@@WiltshireMan awesome can't wait
Real shame about the top bar, but with a littlle bit of filler, elbow grease and spray paint, it could be as good as it was. Gorgeous day to be out and about, anyway, and the countryside is starting to wake up nicely. Hope you enjoy the Dragon Rally and maybe a couple of pints of Brains or Cwrw Eryri (Snowdania Ale).
Hi Steve, I shall look out for some proper beer, I can't dring the chemical stuff that comes in tins from the supermarkets
Fill it with weld ( or bog ) sand it back and respray it. Good as new.
I feel sorry for you and your bike. It is really sad.
Sorry to hear that Peter, I hope you can get it fixed?
would look cool to get a little decal/sticker of the manufacture of the bicycle and use that to cover the damage or at least most of it .
You should have a very enjoyable Dragon Rally this year Sandy, weather is looking ideal. My first was in torrential rain on a little air-cooled dt125 I borrowed of a mate.
Just back from the Rally John and the weather was fair
Have fun.
Might be worth consulting a local frame builder on your repair options.
Oh bugger! Luckily it's just a flesh wound. It'll buff out. 😉
That's an amazing barn, Sandy. I've never seen anything like it.
All the best.
