As far as I know the reason behind Robin's skin change in the anime is because Oda had never intended Nico Robin to have a darker complexion so the anime decided to change it Oda's original color scheme after the timeskip. That being said I do like Robin's pre-timeskip anime look better than the modern design.

If you don’t believe me, you can check the official translation AND the One Piece wiki, that both state things like “The use of “he/him” pronouns for Yamato is due to a lack of proper translation of the words she uses.” Not an exact quote but it is the message they’re trying to send. Regardless, we have no true, canon confirmation of anything Yamato identifies as, except for Oden of course. Not to say she can’t be claimed by the LGBTQ community, if they see her as an icon, sure. Objectively I think Kiku is a better written and better example of an LGBTQ character, I at least like her more than Yamato, but that’s just my opinion.
Also Japanese media outside the series exclusively refers to Yamato as a woman, it’s even on her Vivre card which while Oda dosent directly write, he does correct the mistake put on them. And also Oda included her in art of all female characters so at least from the Japanese side it’s certainly leaning in the direction of her just being a woman
With the whole Watsuki thing, it is obviously terrible that he is like that. However, everyone should be able to separate the art from the artist. He had a huge impact on the manga industry, and an even bigger impact on Oda. Without that impact, there is a high chance we wouldnt have One Piece.

I think it's fine to mess with AI art as long as you don't sell it as your own. Oda knows this and as long as you don't go to far it's ok to use it. I'm more annoyed with the skin tone change for Usopp. It doesn't make any sense for him to be so light colored. I hate that when I first started watching One Piece was from the 4kids dub.
