This is why the best non-acid wheel cleaners are pH neutral iron remover types like KCX MWC, Sonax, etc. They are safer than even the alkaline types like Dark Fury for metals, less harsh on coatings and sealants, and despite the smell, less toxic.
I’ve swapped to Dark fury in my mobile business for over a year now and it’s a great product! 10:1 and you can use it on rims, tires, rocker panels and bugs! Does a great job without draining your pocket book!
Happy new year to you. I am watching your videos more and more. They’re very educational and you’re the second of two detailers that have told the truth about wheel 0:13 cleaners and tire dark theory is economical, and it is mine now only wheel entire cleaner. I am getting rid of overstock of glove box items that I have received and once they’re exhausted, this will be my main go to cleaner. Your videos are nice and brief as opposed to the ones that go on and on about nothing when we out here want to learn the easiest effective economical productive ways to do our jobs. Thank you.
Brake Buster is great for maintenance and also has anti-corrosive properties. I use Car Candy Chocolate thunder for the heavier stuff, before that iron remover and brake buster also worked great.
I find all of these "wheel cleaners" to be a waste of money and time. Some purple power or similar degreaser, soap, a speedmaster, and a pressure washer is more than enough to get any wheel covered in brake dust spotless.
For heavily soiled and neglected wheel just use the P&S neat. As for regular cleaning even 1:7 dilution will clean it easily. Recommend to use a form srpayer instead of regular sprayer.
@@ZacharyPerezIsZacchuu yep, Dark Fury and the actually effective alkaline products are way too strong. The iron remover types are safest for both you and the wheel finish.
@@chrisbradley3224 Iron removers are prone to deteriorate brake components a LOT, accelerate rust and so on, i don't use them at all, i prefer higher alkaline or ph neutral shampoo. It's not as widely available as the Superior products, (which are very good & economical) but it's a phenomenal product, nonetheless. Great video Luke and Happy New Year. I have never used Dark Fury but after watching several demo videos it seems to be a good overall product. I currently use Brake Buster but I am not a pro, just a weekend warrior and my wheels never get that 😂dirty and I tend to wash my car pretty regularly so I haven't had to use anything harsher than P&S to clean the wheels. After my gallon of Brake Buster is depleted maybe I'll try Dark Fury. Thanks for the great info.
Another great training video. Your videos are always relatable and sincere. I've used Dark Fury on my Hyundai wheels straight out of the 16oz spray bottle and it left some black staining or wore the finish off so now I am afraid to use it. Any ideas what I may have done wrong to cause. this? You use Dark Fury for so many areas with ease and I would like to do the same. Thank you, David
Not a fair comparison WHATSOEVER. The pH level of Dark Fury is significantly higher than Brake Buster. Brake Buster has a pH of about 10, whereas Dark Fury is marketed as highly alkaline with a pH level above 12 (The technical data sheet doesn't state the exact pH, only that it is above 12). So OF COURSE these two will not perform the same. It would be the same as comparing a pH neutral shampoo to an APC for cleaning power, and then trashing the pH neutral shampoo because it doesn't clean as thoroughly. So for dirty wheels, dark fury would probably be best. But for someone like myself with ceramic coated wheels that never get too dirty, I prefer to use P&S as it will do less damage to the ceramic coating.
That’s why he talks about diluting it down so much your almost never gonna use either of them straight up since for many cases it’s over kill if your are dealing with coated wheels you know you can push a dilution closer 15:1
It’s a fair comparison since he was testing a well known go to wheel cleaner that ranges around $30 a gallons compared to a wheel cleaner a lot of people don’t know about that around $25 a gallon. Also him doing P&S at 1:5 would means the panel impact should be a higher PH
cope cope cope. We are human beings who spend our money to buy and use products to get results. These are direct market competitors in the same pricing bracket. You can just dilute DF to a weak and strong concentration and negate buying 2 separate products while also saving money. Analogy: I want to get drunk (clean my wheels). Two beers are on the shelf for the same price (2 wheel cleaners), one has 8% ABV, and the other has 4% ABV (pH blah blah). You would be an idiot to buy the 4% beer to accomplish your goal, when you can get the job done for less money with the stronger beer.
Even non-diluted Brake Buster is not an effective cleaner. For a wheel and tire that is not too dirty, I'm sure it would be fine, though. I do like separate chemicals for my wheels and tires. I live an a dusty area and I need something that can cut through the dirt. My favorite is still Eagle One All Wheel and Tire Cleaner. I stopped buying it because it's expensive and hard to find.

I fell for the hype and bought a gallon of Brake Buster. Big waste of money as the pre-wash results were not very good. With agitation, the results were no different than using normal car soap. I haven't used Dark Fury as I have moved on to Adams Wheel and Tire Cleaner (purple stuff). I am extremely happy with that product but will definitely give Dark Fury a shot afterwards.
Same. I’ve basically stopped using wheel cleaner now that I’ve got a nearly full gallon of pos brake buster, can’t justify buying another gallon of sonax 😅
I still haven't found something to take off whatever is on a Camry TRDs black wheels. It only has 13k miles on it now but this has been a pain from the beginning. Your fancy P & S Brake Duster is an very expensive & effective wheel cleaner... Read the MSDS people! There are no shortcuts in the long term preservation of components and painfully use polish to protect the paint finish! Dirt & dust bonds to the micro scratches! So you base your end result on the amount of money spent on the job? Seems a little dumb. They are great products made to dilute and overall save money. Guess you are one of those people who has to flex based off of cost. 😂
Brake buster is so trash
Your fancy P & S Brake Duster is an very expensive & effective wheel cleaner... Read the MSDS people!
Ideally, just hose the wheels & just use ph neutral dishwashing liquid & hot water...and work harder!
If you want easier add, ammonia to the mix in a spray bottle, soak and scrub with a microfibre cleaning glove!
(instant cheap P&S Brake Cleaner) and before you bag me, try it!
All "very effective" cleaners are generally either acidic or alkaline & corrosive "over time"! There are no shortcuts in the long term preservation of components and painfully use polish to protect the paint finish! Dirt & dust bonds to the micro scratches!
Wheel cleaner is just "phosphoric acid plus detergent" wheel cleaners that most people use attacks & removes the zinc plating on brake mounting brackets & corrodes the aluminium including the wheels & paint over time...
Dark fury is some total crap, I gave my gallon to a friend. It’s total trash!
Happy new year to you. I am watching your videos more and more. They’re very educational and you’re the second of two detailers that have told the truth about wheel and cleaners. Dark Fury is economical, and it is my only wheel and tire cleaner. I am getting rid of overstock of glove box items that I have received and once they’re exhausted, this will be my main go to cleaner. Your videos are nice and brief as opposed to the ones that go on and on about nothing when we out here want to learn the easiest effective economical productive ways to do our jobs. Thank you. I’ve caveat to using it as an exterior cleaner works extremely well like you said on the lower panels and bug gut removal.
