- This river is LOADED with fish! I went river fishing to catch a fish that I have NEVER caught. I fished the Potomac River near D.C. for shad. It was my first time ever shad fishing and it did not disappoint. I caught shad almost every cast. They fought really hard and were a blast to catch. My friend joined me and she caught the biggest fish of the day which was a big surprise! I loved river fishing for shad and I will definitely be back to catch more.

I’ve lived near DC my whole life and never thought to fish for shad before. I love the lite rod fishing so I might just give it a try.
All the rivers you visit are loaded :) it's so easy to catch fish on rivers like that one. I would like to see your skills on rivers with little fish :)
I used to catch a lot of shad and carp about 30 - 35 years ago when I used to fish the steelhead and salmon spawning runs near me. Lots of fun! Mepps spinners, Blue Fox Vibrax spinners and Little Cleo spoons.

That is an extremely pretty area. I can't wait to wade some creeks this year. Still very cold here in IL... 41 today... yuk
So that wasn't a carp. That was a quillback sucker and a BIG one at that! Plus, it's a native species, so even better!

It seems like they give a good fight there.
also some good sizes too. if you're into catfish, then the river would be a great place for that as well. Chicken liver and cut up some eels into small pieces too. Catfish loves eating those type of things.

we mostly have gizzard shad around here.
Now take the shad and cut them into large chunks. Use a big circle hook and a big rod and reel and catch you some monster blue cats! 50lb blue isn't uncommon in these waters. You look like your up toward fletchers boathouse here?
