Thanks for the memories! I did L2B way back in '94 while stationed in London. Ran old school 42-28 gearing on my Colnago. The descent was fantastic! Still have the bike :)
:-) Thanks. I was hoping to average 400W for the 7 minute segment but I only averaged 382. My best ever 7 minute average was 395W but I think my legs were a bit tired this time and I slacked off on the lesser gradients!
+Gerard Higgins Thanks :-) I was probably quite a bit fitter than than I was now but I hope to get back to the same level of fitness this year. 2015 wasn't a great year mileage wise for me!
it's the beacon this year but then instead of turning left you turn right, head through hove and along the seafront for a few miles longer. Also, if anyone doing it would like to meet up on the day, message me
Cycle Kid Brighton I will be with the 1030 start, which are you? Might be worth linking up? You can join the three musketeers of my cousin, a work colleague and I !
+bigblokeonabike Luckily I have a 28 tooth chainring on my hybrid so I matched it with a 28 on the back and spun it out. Having the right gearing really makes all the difference. I could have gone twice as long on the same grade. Meanwhile some dudes have to get off their expensive road bikes and wheel them up because they have standard cranksets.
I covered it in 3.15 although the 10 miles before this hill l had a buckle, hmmmm....my excuse. So, what's next? I am on the Brighton Night Ride then the Prudential.
Yes, I was in the first group to leave Clapham Common at 6:00AM. I managed to get ahead of all the slower riders very early on. I arrived at the finish line before 9:00AM.
@@benlock8147 hard on a road bike unless you have low gearing ! I would recommend 34/30 or lower if possible unless you're a strong rider with powergul legs. Even the rest sections are about 6-8% and the ramps are around 12-15%. The main difficulty comes from how much distance you've done prior to it
The Virb overlay is cool, I've got a Garmin 810 and have thought about getting a Virb as someone has said that they can talk to each other and have the overlay, is that right? Did the Virb rec the whole ride on a full charge? Btw im doing the L2B on the 21st June too!! 🚴
ooGQoo I did a video about the virb here: ua-cam.com/video/S4Bj9l-qtqU/v-deo.html That shows how you can control multiple virbs from your garmin computer. This was recorded on a Virb but that overlay was done with dashware not virb edit - although virb edit would have been able to give a very similar result.

Found your videos by searching Garmin Virb.
Wow, you are a strong rider. The wattage is fantastic.

A fantastic effort climbing that beacon! You are one fit chap! I barely got half way up before giving in. Great video! Thanks for posting!

Some beasty wattage!
Nice!
I'm doing the L2B night ride next month, not looking forward to this bit at night.

+AceRidesBikes I need an adult to do it with I'm 13 and a keen rider will be 14 when it comes to the ride in june
Brings back good memories of my first LTB last year! Nice time, sure I did probably double but very happy I didn't dismount!
nice bit of cycling, i done ditchling beacon in2015 and my time was 15.06 well done!!!
How did the bloke pushing his bike in flip flops get there before you?
I must have watched this video 3 or 4 times in preparation for today. I did it in 8:04 which I'm happy with. My only aim was to stay on the bike.
+QuixoticQuaver well done, it's always a bit scary the first time you do a climb like this not knowing how hard it's going to be.

What is the steepest gradient encountered on the ascent, and how long is the ascent in terms of mileage ?. Thank you.
Just under a mile. The steepest section is about 16%, with a lot of low double figures ramps

3:15? The fastest is 3:45, and the was set by a pro in the tour of Britain
Bill Balding he means the whole ride, in hours
well, here the wattage is really impressive.. H
Nice! It looks like you started nice and early? I had a long battle to get out of London, and was then held up by two crashes ahead of me.

+bigblokeonabike what bike do you ride n you did well on that climb n that decents looked amazing

400W and only 5mph on a 10% grade, what are you like a thousand kilos?
ironman tooltime it’s like 16% at the steepest parts
