  • Little Richard in a late night TV performance that was broadcast 6-19-90, featuring three songs and an interview where he tells the host about having just earned his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The BetaGems channel also has "Little Richard 5-15-97 Curly Shuffle 3 Stooges tribute," "Little Richard 2-15-89 television performance," "Mickey's Rock Around the Mouse 1987 Little Richard," "Little Richard 8-5-72 festival performance," "Little Richard meets Pee Wee Herman 1988," "1992 Little Richard for Taco Bell Make a Run For the Border," and "Little Richard & Cindy Crawford 1992 TV ad perfume."
BetaGems are culled from an archive of over 1000 beta video tapes recorded between from 1983 into the 1990s. Most feature live music performances broadcast on television in San Diego CA, though there are also rarely seen commercials, comedy clips, and other material that doesn't seem to be anywhere else on UA-cam or online. Most of the tapes were recorded on a Sony SL-HFT7 Super Beta Theater Hi-Fi Stereo - the same model was refurbished and is being used for these digital transfers and uploads.
In rare occasions where a BetaGems clip does appear elsewhere, we're only uploading if our own beta master is better quality or contains material not seen previously. Much footage comes from public television and public access broadcasts that the taper, who worked for a local cable TV production company in the 1980s, monitored nightly for several years. Some of the programming is strictly regional, mostly from the San Diego area.

      Say it again, Mark.
He WAS R&R and he CROSSED the LINE.
      FACTS..
      Argument dun.
READ and LUSTEN to his interviews.
He said he was bfore Elvis.
He was on Camden bc he was BLACK. They wouldn't play his music on the white radio stations.
As soon as he put out his songs Elvys and Pat Boone covered them.
He later thanked them for it.

I remember Little Richard having a rebirth of sorts in his career around the early 90's. He guested on Jon Bon Jovi's debut solo album, he appeared in videos from Cinderella and Ratt, he was on prime-time game shows, etc. It seemed like everybody who was somebody in the early 90's wanted to work with him in some capacity. It's a testament to what a legendary, talented, and engaging performer he was and how his music continues to resonate with people. Thank you Little Richard for helping put rock and roll on the map. We will always be grateful to you for that. God rest your soul.

There's never going to be another Little Richard. One of a kind, no dispute. My parents filled the house with music of most genres when I was kid, and he was in that mix. I still say he's the true king of rock n' roll, not Elvis. People can argue that, and that's okay. All that he said in this is true, and it's one of the appeals of rock music itself - of course which extends into my favourite form of music, heavy Metal.
Little Richard spoke about telling the truth no matter how unpleasant it is, and more importantly, be passionate while being yourself. To stand up, defy, and express yourself with everything you've got. That's rock n' roll and beyond, and while he has left us in mortal form, his music will live on forever. You can't help but be inspired and admire the fire and spirit the man had. He didn't hold back, and that's the beauty.

Little Richard was a force. Just watch his fingers on the piano, his energy, and how comfortable he always is in his delivery. He was a very talented and funny dude who knew how to entertain and keep his audiences cheering and hollering, but he was so much more than that. At this point Little Richard was 58 years old but still, by his own testimony, an infant in his spiritual journey.
Many years later (long after he took off the makeup and the big hair and stopped performing in concerts), I listened to him speak about how his relationship with God completely changed his worldview and his whole life. And he really left an impression on me. I love that he loved God, and how humble and honest he showed himself to be after he was done with the Hollywood stuff and began to let his real personality shine. A very intelligent, generous, and beautiful human being.

I am absolutely heartbroken on the passing of the true King of Rock 'N Roll, the one and only, Little Richard. A huge influence on me but also an unsung civil rights giant as during a time of great division in America and extreme racism towards the African American Black Community, Little Richard pioneered the way for a black man in elevating the Blues and Rock into the mainstream of White America but still loved performing to integrated crowds. His raw stage presence and energy, not to mention his vocal range, power and musicianship dwarved the likes of Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis. They all performed each others songs, as most Rock 'N Rollers did, but Little Richard stood head and shoulders above them all. May you Rest in Peace you absolute legend!
