I took a couple lessons from Dave Davidson when I was 15. Years later, when I was 23, I saw him play with Alluvial and Krisiun. I bumped into him after the show, and he remembered me, even though I only took a couple lessons from him eight years ago. Absolute lad.
I met him when I saw krisiun and alluvial asw, he signed my tab book and talked to me after the show, super nice dude.
I took lessons from Dave too. He is a very patient and nice guy. I was a self admitted horrible student and he stuck with me and made all of the lessons worthwhile even if I was having a hard time with something.
The pain you endured while playing this thing made it worth every last belly laugh at every turn! Thanks for your ever-enduring contribution to the guitar world and society at large . . . or small, in this case, cause these counterfeiters clearly shrunk the body to reduce worldwide shipping fees, duh. 😂😂😂

Yea, they are a 10% smaller version of the full sized Beast...and so far, this is not much different from the Avenge SOB that HHI put out originally...even my Beast NT had a chunky neck...Brian Hoffman(designer, Deicide guitarist) preferred the wider feel if IRC...
The crooked neck that you point out is normal (idk at what degree for this guitar) but the angle is set to accommodate the bridge and have a decent control on the action. If you look at les paul shaped guitars, or something like an esp eclipse, the angle is very noticeable when the bridge is a tune o Matic, vs when it's built with a recessed floyd rose where you don't need any neck angle.
**Technically the angle should've been higher since you have the bridge at its lowest

Seems like the only way to get a BC Rich guitar these days. The real BC Rich guitars seem to be out of stock all the time.
I ordered an N4 yesterday. I don't care what the electronics are like, as long as the body is sound. I got loads of kit to transfer over.
I had one of those when I was in middle school back in the mid 2000's. It's a BC Rich Avenge which is a sized down beast body. The one I owned was about 270 dollars CAD and it was a production model.
Edit just to say that my Avenge only had a bridge humbucker and a volume knob.
I played the same model in a pawn shop here in Quebec (a real one, mind you) and the neck/feel/action was incredible!!
I was just put off by the body shape, so i let it slipped...but man, that neck was amazing!

I can vouch for the Harley Benton BS-20, stock it's surprisingly great. And let me tell you - the mods that you can do to it without worrying too much, that's where the fun is.
I own a early 2000’s NJ Beast and can confirm they are huge and weights somewhere around 12 lbs and had a great neck. That looks like a Son of Beast. I know they were smaller, but I’ve never seen them in person so I’m not sure how much smaller.
I also own an early 2000s NJ and encountered a few of the Son of Beast's. This thing looks even smaller than those somehow
I bought a counterfeit Jackson King V off of Aliexpress since that's the only way to get left handed version of some models and the body had the opposite problem. It's a few inches bigger than the real thing. After a setup, it's actually a really good guitar but the body size is so big that I can't find any kind of case of gig bag that will fit it.
Man, I'm not sure about shipping costs as I'm in Australia, but I make gig bags to order from your measurements. I'd be happy to look into it. It's just synthetic material with foam inlay and a faux satin lining, decent zipper. I try to keep prices down. Let me know, I'll give you my insta.

Mr. Luthier, please teach this young gentlemen that neck isn't crooked. Like I said, he, he... neck isn't tilted without reasons, there are guitars like that with TOM bridge (including my Washburn) to accommodate bridge height❤
@@Ronnie_Baker Chances are that if the neck is that tilted, the screws are going in crooked. That leads to fingerboard swelling and can raise frets. If the bridge is already at its lowest with the neck overextended, it leaves almost zero room for further adjustments. It’s a real bad sign.

@@Ronnie_Baker That’s the Washburn. The exception doesn’t make the rule. Bolt on BC Rich guitars all go in flat as do almost every other bolt ons.

Always loved the Beast model and am sad it doesn't get made anymore, even the crappy circa-2008 models are ridiculously expensive second-hand.

Yes as it has been said, that is a copy of the avenged son of the beast. I do have a legitimate beast and it is quite large but is also quite ergonomic as you said, even if it doesn't look like it. I will say I quite enjoy mine and if you get a chance to play one they are kind of fun.

I own an NJ beast and it's hillarious seeing how off these dimensions are. The weirdest thing is that this isn't even a knockoff of the higher end beast, this is a copy of the already smaller and cheaper "Son of Beast" model. And it manages to be even shorter and stubbier than that already was
The BC Rich Beast was my dream guitar back in 2000 when I was 12 and that's definitely ...different lol
I suspect if you were to shim the neck towards being level, (pretty thick shim deep in neck pocket) the action would get better, and be within the bridge's adjustment range
It's funny because my first guitar was actually a BC Rich Bich knockoff produced back in the 80s by Phantom guitars. they didn't replicate the headstock though, interestingly it was also black with red binding.

Albeit a lot of counterfeits come out of china but some of those are factory rejects they’re selling out the back door instead of trashing like they’re supposed to. If you know what to look for you can sometimes get great stuff for cheap cuz of minor things…. But that one sure looks like a counterfeit….
Tbh this counterfeit isn't too far off since most real BC Riches are made in China too.

@@sixstringtv1 All the 'Avenge' models I've seen were indeed made in China. There's a few on Reverb right now you can see the stamp on the back of the headstock.

I got the same thing on the neck joint with the lifted fretboard thing on my warlock. The guitar is original tho, i asked a friend that bought another warlock and he has the same thing going on. I really suppose they're fake but i cannot believe that.

Well, I actually have a cheap Aliexpress Ironbird replica, and have absolutely no issues with it. Play it as often as a proper B.C.Rich Mockingbird, and even use it while recording as well
That guitar is a rip of of a model named Son of a beast from the early 2000s. Its the beast shape but smaller made for teenage kids who couldn't handle a full size beast in their hands.
An friend of mine has the Beast Bass and that thing is huge and weights a ton.
Got a copy of a different brand off Ali Express and can confirm that straight out of the box, those things are awful. However, since my country is not a part of the EU, some things come really cheap such as luthier work, so my guitar got made into a player. It's on par with the horrific HB JA-20 that I also had to bring to a luthier to right all the wrongs that thing had wood-wise and it eventually got on stage with me. The Ali Express guitar will also get a go, but it should be noted that I paid 200 euros on top of the buying price (400-ish in total) making me think that I could probably get a different, used guitar... if those thing weren't so god damn expensive because we're not in the EU. People in my country like to sell things at a price they bought them. So, you get to pay 700-800 euros for a heavily used LTD 401 and other big biznis ideas.

I always wanted a BC Rich, and in 2020, I was lucky to buy a brand new Mockingbird Legacy Series (Made in Korea) from 2019 as a B-Stock, for 820€ instead of 1500€ (Thomann price), on an online shop in France (+ an Extreme Case for 90€ instead of 140€!) !!
The guitar has zero issue whatsoever, totally brand new ! It was a very nice and great deal, and I'm so happy with it !!!
BC Rich guitars don't deserve so much hate ....

This was my first electric guitar as kid. That looks so off. My Son of Beast is slightly bigger, one pick up, and one volume knob. I noticed the stringthru for the strings are off as well. Haha

ali express guitars are hit or miss it really all comes down to the seller. You can end up with one like in this video or like me who got an explorer copy and it plays AMAZING. Was also only $250 compared to this $350
They now have a Pat O'Brien sig knock off on Ali express i think that is supposed to be a son of beast which i guess is supposed to be smaller than the original beast because i have son of beast headstock on my kkv and my kkw has a full size beast headstock btw have you seen those terrible chuck schuldiner tribute knock offs I've seen them but couldn't possibly bring myself to get one it just feels like opening a whole new can of worms and gremlins but because you have experience on Ali are there gotoh products legit?
It would be super cool if you could get an actual model of this guitar and compare it to the counterfeit to show the difference.

For the price that these budget guitars are going for these days on Reverb, this seems like a better option. Build quality is probably the same as the mid to late 2000's BC Rich stuff. Also, that guitar is small because it's a Son of Beast.

But cheap Ibanez and upgrade the pickups! They play the same cheap and expensive Ibanez play great.
Lower end Ibanez are the best cheap guitars money can buy, the necks are very nice for the price and ive yet to have a qc issue at all on 4 of em. I bought a custom made 7 string iceman body 2 years ago and put on a grg7 gio neck and it holds its own against my prestige, its not quite as good but it was like less than quarter of the price lol

I own a bc rich beast and I can tell ya that guitar is definitely smaller then the legit one. Like the gap at the bottom of the guitar is way bigger on mine

Ireally like this guy and I'll tell you why. 1.He has an encyclopedic knowledge of rock and metal. 2.He knows what he is talking about when it comes to guitars, amps, pedals etc. and i trust his judgement. 3. He plays like an absolute demonic hellbastard wizard. 4. He speaks his mind and is utterly fearless. 5.He is smart and funny. In short, maximum metal points.

to be honest, sounds kind of like all 80's metal. And they gave you a BC RICH right? For 80's metal, I'd say it kinda goes straight to the point.
I had the real version of this guitar. This one it the Son Of The Beast, which is actually a 3/4 scale I believe, but its closer to a ful size because of the crazy shape. It can be comfortable to sit with if you place the bottom point between your legs and let the curved edges rest on your lap. Highly regret selling it, as it costs 3x what I sold it for to get a beat model. Id have this tested for pead, as cheap Chinese knockoffs have been found to he contaminated lately.
Also, the real one had a single DiMarzio pickup with a single volume knob
It's not a block of Styrofoam, there is a lid you just run a razor blade around and no mess. Sorry you didn't know., I just bought one for almost nothing out of curiosity from Ali Express knowing I can't re-sell it. I set it up and have been playing it for the past few days. No fret issues and I was able to adjust the bridge. It's alright as a backup when I don't want to drag out a more expensive guitar to sketchy house party gigs. The one I got plays legit fine and sounds fine honestly. (I bought a different one than you.)

This one hurts because i have the actual sob avenge in red/black. The least the knockoff could have done is thin the neck an put the little BC Rich in white on the pickups.... mine only has 1 and it at least has that, but mines also authentic 😂
The SOB that this is based on does have a 3/4 sized body compared to a real full sized beast but its actually a full size guitar. Weirdly accurate 😅

Also the neck angle is really accurate too. The lower end BC rich guitars from the early 2000s also had this same angle. My first guitar was a bronze series warlock and it had the same weird angle. 😅

Can you review Harley Benton's bc rich shapes in a future review? They are the beast BS-20, mockingbird mb-20, and the warlock wl-20. They look like good mod platforms if they turn out to be duds.
They're great guitars. I tried one in my Thomann video.

Maybe they made the neck thicker on the fake because damn a real BC rich the headstock will break off completely you accidentally bump into something with it.

Counterfeit is an interesting concept.
1. we dont know the deals that the rights holder has in place. or who the rights holder is right now.
2. we dont know which factories they have used in the past
3. we dont know which factories they will use in the future
4. until recently we didnt know/care who was a 'good' factory, and this is a 'relative' term.
5. a factory considered 'poor' in the 80/90s is now a very collectible japan/korean copy. this is important concept for this video, 'decline'
6. I'm not going to sh!t on the countries that will take over manufacture from china, but it will certainly change.
7. We are very lucky that we still have timber for guitars. Mark my words other materials will have to be used for sustainability and customs import reasons.
8. quality control. this is the core failing of 'piece of junk' guitars. not made or looked over by a guitar player. Timber that hasnt been cured. there are several layers in aliexpress sales. the face of the selling company, a middle man, and the dude with the saw and sandpaper.
FWIW I attempted to buy a guitar from aliexpress, and they were so hopeless that I got a refund. First they stalled and stalled. Then they lied about progress. then when it was 'about to ship' they realised 'they had misread my order and made the wrong version' which was just another stall tactic. A very important lesson about trust here, and they failed at every opportunity. If they are going to con people then at least build some trust in your buyers minds.

It looks like an Avenge Son Of Beast from around 2008, they were made in China and 10% smaller than a standard Beast. A real one should have a single B.C. Rich B.D.S.M. pickup in the bridge, no neck pickup, 1 volume, no tone knob, B.C. Rich die cast tuners, and the string holes in the body should be in a row, not staggered. I still have a catalog from the year they were made lolz
The Beast is actually very uncomfortable to play in any other position but standing and even then they have savage neck dive. There are sharp corners that jab you all over it. I only use them for live shows. Also have fun getting a case for them. I am pretty sick of BCRich because of this. I only play Mockingbirds now because they can fit in some normal sized cases and they are comfortable to sit with. I also don't even bother with bolt ons unless they are from the 80s- 90's. So many fakes now. I mainly buy those used and there are a ton of deals out there.

I own a few BC Rich, and I actually think the Mockingbird is the least comfortable to play sitting down. It has a pretty dramatic curve and if you rest it on your leg and try to center it in a comfortable playing positiong it just wants to slide off. Super annoying to try to hold it in place. I'd honestly take the Beast or the Bich sitting down over the Mock any day. Tucks right into your leg, doesn't jab me really. The Mock legit pisses me off trying to play it sitting down.
Great video, but you really need to sort out the pulsing/changing colours/hues on your footage; it's like a fever dream or something 😂

I want a BC rich but ironbirds are so expensive used and they won't produce any cool ones for a reasonable price so it's sad that I've actually been tempted by the Chinese knockoffs but I know better than to actually buy one.
I own several that are neck through. The chinese ones that have the floyd are fine. The necks on others are angled too far back, so they can use the cheapo wrap around bridges or ones that set too high. I'd avoid those.
Thats actually based on the Son of Beast, not the Beast, so ironically its based on a model made to escape a lawsuit haha.

I bought that very Baretta Special you showed for a daily driver to beat up. It's not my Sully Raven 7 by a longshot, but I don't feel guilty when I go all psycho and literally punch the body for a false harmonic with my foot firmly on the stage monitor acting like the fool I am at heart. Off the rack Guitar Center, under $250 US, it shouldn't be this reliable. Tuning stability is great, it's comfy, it's got the EVH vibe, what's not to love?
