Big difference between comparing that and a 600 to a litre.A 600 is faster than 99.9% of other vehicles on the road unless you meet a litre bike or a super sport car worth hundreds of thousands maybe millions like a bugatti or a mc laren etc.So do you really need a 1000cc bike?Answer is no.its more than you will EVER need on the road
thing is, you dont know how to ride 1000cc unless you have done courses on the track. I always laugh when someone tells me they are going to start on a r1 or a zx10r. Ok man it was fun knowing you, see ya in heaven! In america it might be different, because you ride straight alot of the time, but here in europe where there are more twisties than straights, you really need to learn how to ride, or you will crash brutally. Braking points and other things just cant be learned it 2 days
I started on a 2007 cbr1000 and average 1000 miles a month on it... I love it... I couldn't imagine having less power... and it's nimble as fuck..... and no you won't be able to keep up with me on a 600cc
I'd say a great starter bike is the new 2017 Honda rebel 500, it uses the same engine that's in the CBR 500R, just tuned slightly different for more low end power. the new rebel is sort of a mix between a sports bike and a cruiser, it's seating and ground clearance is like a sports bike, and very nimble as it's only 403 lbs, but has the look of a cruiser.
and it's quite cheap, $6000 for the non ABS version, $6300 for the ABS version.

I just got my endorsement January of this year. First bike was a 2006 Honda shadow spirit 750, then 5 months later a Honda cbr 250, and 2 months after that a 97 tl1000s super bike... I won’t lie. First time on it I was intimidated. After a few minutes, I love it!!!!

I have a 125cc mid size pit bike, thing is super fun but I been riding it on the street too much and I know that isn't smart/safe...so I wanted a motorcycle and didn't want to spend more than $1,500 so choices were limited. Found this 650cc and I love it, I just don't get on the throttle too hard and ride within my limits. I am glad with my choice because now I can grow into it instead of wanting more out of it like my 125 pit bike

first bike was a BMW S1000RR. kept it in rain mode for the first couple months. my mindset is if I was gonna wreck on a 1000 being on a 600 wouldn't have changed the outcome. I'll probably lay it down eventually but this far I've been safe and blessed.

I bought a Panigale 1199s for my first sportsbike. Road it in wet mode for two weeks, sport mode for two months, then race mode for the rest of it. Never been down yet nor had any problems. No regrets

So Dan mentioned just staying in 6th gear and cruising around is fine. As a motorcycle newbie, isn't it bad to go lower speeds in higher gears? Couldn't you potentially stall doing that?
It's all about riding responsible. Buy a 1000, 600 or 250. It don't matter. Don't ride like a jackass and you'll be fine. You know like going over 100mph, weaving in and out of traffic, lane splitting while speeding. Be a responsible rider and know the limits of the bike you're riding. Go with a bike that fits you. Doesn't matter the size. If you more comfortable on a 1000 then go for it. And vice versa. 1000 is a LOT of power and can get up there without hesitation but if your ride safe and defensive you'll be good. Just do the exact opposite of 99% of motovloggers and you will be okay. Yea, i said it.......

U.S. Army represent, 1-18 infantry son! 2011 Z1000, first bike ever, been ridin for 8 months but I'm still alive. I think those people that would be prone to renting a Ferrari then power sliding themselves into a street light wouldn't be ok on a 1000 but my initial idea has basically held true til today which is; every vehicle car bike or boat takes getting used to, no matter the experience your experience still needs to account and adjust for what you're driving.

Reliable comfortable used trucks in your price range... Buy a clean older Silverado 1500 with a 5.3. It'll come in under your budget, they have minimal issues, and they're very comfortable. Or if you want a diesel, buy a Ford 7.3 f250 or f350. You can find a decent one for 10k and they're pretty rock solid.

I mean how many of his vehicles are motorcycles? like 4 or something right? the Kawasaki, Magna, AMC Harley, and a Shit for parts Harley. two of those bikes are basically un rideable (the AMC doesn't really go far), the magna will castrate you if you ride it for too long, and the Kawasaki isn't exactly a touring a bike. A cheap truck just let's Dan go farther while keeping costs down

I bought a ninja 250 for $100 it was too good a deal to pass up. First ride was yesterday. It's up for sale in search of a 600. 😂 I got passed by a Prius on a steep uphill, and my balls shriveled up. Definitely would not recomend starting on a 250

Save your clutch cable, springs & disc plates. Shift without them being you ride a 1000cc bike. Just use your clutch to engage first and to down shift rapidly. If any part of that train brakes your ride is done & you're stranded. Just saying

In my experience the higher weight of 1000cc bikes makes them more comfortable to ride for me, because they are planted on the road and dont sway around from the weakest winds. And you don't have to ride them at 8k rpm when you want to do miles on the highway. 70 mph 6th gear chilling at 4k

I went from a 250 to 1000. Don’t bother with 600’s. The amount of power depends how much you twist it and 1000’s have more twist. My blade still pulls hard in 6th gear. Downs side is you get kinda lazy riding a 1000. I had way more fun on my 250 going through the gears and using the revs.

My 1600cc Yamaha doesn't really keep up with my friend's Ninja 300. So there you go. Cruiser displacement has little effect on speed. Fuel consumption however..... haha

Dan get a 7.3 power stroke. That engine is solid just make sure the wheel bearings are good cause those shit the bed at around 170,000 to 270,000 miles.

i must ad that I was a daily driver driving in all conditions snow, rain, and summer. It might be faster for some but it really is necessary to build up confidence and experience because even a 400 cc bike can kill you in a split second if you don't have experience.
Buy van for transporting the bike you could always put a bunk in it for crashing. They are a little cheaper than trucks too. Hell you could turn the van in to a build series.
I started on a Honda rebel then bumped up directly to a Harley vrod. went from borderline moped to Harleys drag race bike hella quick.
Ive had 2 gsxr 1k's and a hyabusa....Went to Harleys for a few years..Had 4 of them..including 2 Vrod muscles..Sold all of them. Im 55 and currently ride a 2017 kawi 636..Getting a zx10 or 14 next...Back to a liter bike...But yeah..Im liking the 636 for now after being on a Slow ass Harley for a few years..

Starting on a 1000 seriously slows the learning process. No one get on 1000 and learns to ride better then a rider who started on a smaller bike. Rossi, Marquez, Hayed, Roberts, Rainey, Spencer, Spies all started on small bikes!

I've ridden a 250cc that I learned on in riding class. I bought an 07 Ninja ZX-10R as my first bike. I was so scared of it that I trailered home instead of riding home. Rode it around the neighborhood til I was comfortable on the street. Lol. I respect it because it's very fast, to me. So I think someone could start on a 1000cc. It all depends on the rider.
I ride a 250. Love the shit out of it, 70mpg. Cant say I dont want a turbo'd ZX14. Love my 250 though. Goes up the interstate and passes cars with no issue. Don't need anything more than 250, hate when people say you do. Sometimes its more fun to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow.
Don't listen to anyone claiming that you can't start on a liter bike!!!
1)Get a restricted power liter bike or restrict it
2)Respect her ( you don't wanna die do you?)
3)Take your time to know her better. Don't rush!!!
4)Learn to control her weight ( manoeuvres gonna be difficult...)
5)Don't drive like jerks!!!
6)Consider that others spent so much money to buy slower bikes till they get to liter bikes :)
7)NEVER let others influence you to go fast!!!! Do it when you are already familiar with the bike( or you'll find yourself miserable about the costs of crashes both in money and pain)
8)Focus when driving and don't get distracted! Liter bikes are no joke
9)If you don't feel much comfortable and are on tight budget, do yourself a favour and get crash cage or other protection measures (plastics cost a lot)
10)Get proper riding gear
11)Enjoy your bike and be careful for a happy and painless driving experience
hey Dan I was hoping to see you at a future Meetup and saved up for my dream bike 2013 zx10r had rode before but had my zx10 for 2 months and just two days ago a guy came to a complete stop in front of me while I was checking how much gas I used sadly from what I seen before they took me in the ambulance the bike is in pretty rough condition hopefully I can get it fixed and see you at a Meetup soon be safe!
