  • Aunque ya no esté al nivel de Dire Straits, o del Mark Knopfler de 1996 hasta 2005, Sultans of Swing es una leyenda que merece ser escuchada por cualquier asistente a un concierto de Mark.

      I think that's an extremely arrogant thing to say. People can dislike him, even if they recognise that he is good at guitar. Liking has nothing to do with it.

      My friend and I had just completed the first part of our conscription and he made a suggestion that we have a "social season" as celebration. It would be for December only.....which turned out to be two years. One morning he came to my place all excited about a song he heard the previous evening - did not quite catch the name but he thinks it is called " satans slaves". We went to every record shop in the city - nobody knew or heard of it & making fools of ourselves. Eventually turned out to be Sultans of Swing. Guess we listened fo it a zillion times. 🙃l

    Sultans is the song Mark most plays with in his shows. Every version is slightly different than the one before. I think he does it to keep from being bored silly. He's been doing this song for how many years now? 40 or so? That's a long time. He treats the song like it's an old friend he's chatting up again, and just has fun with it.

    The one and only song my husband actually sang live in a Karaoke show and one more time going busking with me ! I will never forget you Scott ! Hoping you can still see me and that I have bought my first e-guitar on our wedding anniversary. I am practicing every day, hoping to get better so I can get back into recording music. Our Rolling Home is for sale and it breaks my heart, but I simply don't know how to live without you any more. Maybe music can help me to cope, but I'm missing your touch, your energy, your cooking, your love, your smile and even your singing! You always sang along to my music and I loved your husky voice. I know it's crazy to write this here in a youtube channel, but I only found out today that people are actually reading this sometimes. So maybe your soul can also read what I type. And Mark Knopfler, just in case you get to read this by any chance, you are my husbands hero and I am trying to learn to play like you (starting now). Wish me luck! Love your music !!!!!

Dios bendiga a los musicos de antes y sigan tocando porque los que sabemos de musica si sabemos apreciar... Thanks for sharing this video.

A mi esposo lo conocí en un concierto y no dejo de dar gracias a Dios por ese día que me tocó trabajar para ellos. saludos y buena música. 🙏

    • @Case_
      @Case_ 5 місяців тому

      @@toddrichardson8595 That sound very improbable. When or where did he say it? I would kinda sorta believe it would take Clapton three weeks to learn to play Mark's part of the song reasonably close to how Mark plays it, but as far as I know, Clapton never played his part when playing with Knopfler/Dire Straits, he always played rhythm guitar with maybe some improvised bits here and there. And the rhythm part of this song is not a three weeks kind of thing, especially not for someone like Clapton who has decades of experience with being able to join someone pretty much on the spot. Three hours, maybe.

      @@bogdananderson1472 maybe but he’s got the gift of songwriting too. He’s got an unmistakable style. You can tell MK with just a few notes he understands the power of silence and phrasing which makes him stand out . Maybe commercial I don’t think he’d dispute that but he was granted the ability to bring joy to millions.in the era of great bands that no longer exist

    My oldest brother gave me CD's of Mark Knopfler's music, he was a keen music-lover and played piano and organ. It's because of his presents that I've come to know Knopfler's work. Now that my oldest brother plays music in his own heaven, gone from us here on the planet, I'll always enjoy this music with a little sadness too. But mostly with fond memories of him.

    Mark Knopfler and that red Stratocaster.....I remember a friend imported the first album from the UK just so he could get it sooner. We sat there listening to this song and that solo and we were mesmerized! That many years later we've all grown older & the body may be a little tired but the spirit is undeniably strong, I'm still mesmerized by his playing, it feels like it was yesterday we heard this for the first time. Good on you Mark Knopfler!

      they do, cause people like us, whenever we meet them tell them so. As long as they don't get tired of hearing it....I had the pleasure of meeting Chuck Berry, a bunch of years back, and was sure to let him know how influential a guitar player, and a lyricist he was.
      I'm sure he's heard it a million times before, from people that were great guitarists on their own, but he thanked me anyways.
      Live long and prosper Mark, you are one of the greats........

    UNBELIEVEABLE.. THESE GUYS ARE AS OLD AS I AM.. AND I'M OLDER THAN DIRT.. they are so phenomenal after almost 50 YEARS OF FAME; They are blest by the Muses of Music... I would love to see them one more time live... JUST INCREDIBLE.. I used to be able to play like Mark .. but Arthritis has take its toll.. He is probably one of the greatest guitarists in the world on the level of Andres Segovia... just awesome.

      +STRATMAN firdaus I kinda agree with blekfut. Mark is great but REALLY think about it. I take it you're a guitar guy with that name, as am I. Mark is on a level few will ever reach but compare this to say a recent video of Clapton, Buddy Guy or Eddie Van Halen. This has TONS of missed notes, especially the last minute or so of the last solo. You will NEVER see any of those guys I mentioned, along with tons of other guitar heros making that many mistakes. This was not a good performance by his standards.

    • @33sroche
      @33sroche 8 років тому +8

      +Rmurder A solo is what ever the guy that is playing it wants it to be at that time. You don't think the song evolves in his head as 30 years go by or it is just that studio take? I don't think you get to determine if Mark Knopfler made a mistake in his solo. I think Mark gets to determine that.

    • @rmiller9969

    When I heard this for the first time, I was amazed, I said finally a real clean Strat sound,
    which was confirmed by him using single coil elements, when they had a gig in Seventies in Rotterdam Netherlands, I had binoculairs, and yes he played all with finger picking!
    72 now and still cant get enough of it :-)
