In many ways, scandinavian and japandi styles were bringing this soft minimalism to the table. Layering and natural materials with soft color tones were there. I really enjoy all your videos and learn so much from them. I'm not into home design as a professional, but I think it's so essential for our health! thank you for bringing this content !
I say this again and again.. Minimalism is not about having less .. but having only things that are functional and add value to home and personality of people living in it ❤
Norm Architects are the absolute “Masters” and contributors of Soft Minimalism and furniture design. Well done Reynard for mentioning and one of their best examples in Item 6.
Thank you, Raynard! I look forward to every one of your valuable videos. They are always, as good design is, simple, clear and cohesive. This one is the best ever. I’ve puzzled over my own style for years: love the simple lines of minimalism, but warm, organic elements say comfort, and I’ve tried to incorporate both in my home. Your eight elements are a guide to creating a cohesive, purposeful approach. So inspiring! I’m also using these principles in a packaging design project. Thank you. Amazing again.
I discovered the hard way that I prefer warm neutrals and grounding materials. In traditional minimalism, my body feels cold (unconsciously) and uninspired. Everyone’s different. I love traditional minimalism in magazine photos it looks gorgeous. But for my home, warm warm warm.
never been a fan of minimalism as I find them clinical. but this new trend of warm minimalism might work for me. Thank you for the video. Now I can start researching for my next apartment
I feel like you would be a great college professor. I just recently got my own place and I have learned a ton from watching your videos. Always look forward to them.
I consider myself a minimalist because I keep only what I love and what is useful. I don't have a lot of excess. I like the look of warm minimalism but I like vibrant colours too much to set my home up that way. Cream coloured walls - yes. But only because that allows me to play with lots of different vibrant colors in my furniture and decor.
Thanks for the tips! We bought a minimalism house which I no clue how to decorate it without ruining the space. I only know keep everything simple and hide all the mess😂 I’ll dig in more of your videos about soft minimalism.
I only recently realized that you post about once a month AND that I’ve watched every one of your videos haha another great one! I’m getting my own apartment soon and I CANT WAIT TO DECORATE. thank you for sharing these tips :)
I’ve always wanted to know: in these warm minimalist interior designs, can we add a classic recliner alongside these soft sofas (4:38) without ruining the design? Can you make a video about it? Maybe a design challenge to make it look good. It’s great because there are people who love their recliners and maybe even game on it in the living room, while still wanting to have sofas for the rest of the family to sit. Can you do that without ruining the aesthetic?
Love your content Reynard! Keep them coming. You certainly have inspired me in my own design journey. Im loving the warm minimalism and Japandi styles. But the 2 seem almost synonymous.
Thanks for making this excellent video. I've been drawn to warm minimalism but was not sure how to start. I like your clear explanations and examples. Just subscribed :)
Minimalism is seen as a 20th century interior movement but l'd argue that ancient Sparta in Greece was famous for simplicity and functionality across all spheres of life. Warm minimalism palette was also how ancient Spartans decorated: earth tones, pottery, stone, wool, flax and greenery. Hence, the term 'spartan' to describe spaces without decoration and quantity of possessions.
Execellent video with lots of reference books. I've been watching your videos for about a year, and still, there are a lot of things to learn from you. Thanks again for the video :D
Hi, I like warm minimalism/ Japandi, but I want to incorporate mid-mod accents for the bright colors and fun shapes. Could you do a video on how to incorporate mid-mod without it being overpowering?
What you call warm minimalism, here in Sweden is what we call Scandinavian style. Often, in international media, Scandinavian style is depicted as something else but if you come to Sweden and visit upscale homes or just homes of people with good taste you will often see your warm minimalism perceived and described as modern Scandinavian design style.
Never seen a more square living room makeover from you. Also would you put a sofa in the middle of the living room with the back facing towards the entrance? Maybe put a console table behind?
warm minimalism is basically minimal scandi or minimal japandi. so glad there's a niche for warm minimalism tho bc as much as i love japandi and scandi, they still contain too much materials.
Another good video my man. This is definitely my style inspo! What would you say the difference is between 'soft/warm minimalism' vs. 'organic modern'? They seem VERY similar so would be interesting to see what you think separates them
Yes, both can be quite similar. I'd say main difference is with 'organic modern', it borrow cues from bohemian style as well, and can be stretched further to spaces that may feel a bit more "maximalist". I think this is a good opportunity to point out (as I have in many of my videos): when designing or decorating, not to be too bogged down on the terminology, but to gather a visual board that represent the overall look. Many spaces captured online or in magazines today are a combination of many different styles.
Hi Reynard, would colours of curtains matter in warm minimalism ? Do I need to choose cream or ivory shades vs stark white curtains in order to do warm minimalism ? Thanks !
Is it ok to have the inside of opaque table lamps a rich colour to produce an ambiant glow red low down againt a wall and yellow on a centre room table
Great video! What wall paint colors would you recommend for this kind of style? A beige that goes a bit to an yellow touch or something with a more pink touch?
Amazing, the 'soft' part is what was missing. Can anyone recommend me other tools than Pinterest for interior inspiration? I find Pinteresr quite repetitive and full of ads. Thanks!
Hi - I like your minimalist approach. What is color code of paint that you have used on wall behind you or in pictures that you showed in the start of this video?
Yes! Love warm minimalism, currently trying to do this with my apartment... Keyword is "trying"😅, I've recently discovered I tend to go maximalist with the art on the wall 🥲
My studio apartment will have mostly all carved tables at my desk coffee table in a light oek finish sofa bed in white soft with a dresser with rounded corners are rug side tables round from Article Furniture as well not thinking about the lighting yet I get art TV Apple MacBook Pro 14 with a Apple Studio Display add in some kitchen wear front Our Place
Very informative video as always but this one we waited long(a month) or is just me? anyway back-round sound used so smooth (who’s the artist and song name? Last song)
To be blunt, no style is forever. I think it's best to style your home based on your personal tastes rather than following a defined style or trend, this way no matter what happens you will love spending time in your home for the next 10-20 years.
Completely agree with the other comment here. Always best to style your home based on your own preference. Having said that, there are definitely elements that makes a home timeless (I have a video on this) - I usually like having the major pieces or foundation to be something more "timeless" and then fill in with trendier or playful pieces (armchair, decor, etc).
I enjoy the topics but maybe some suggestions. Maybe stay on the pictures examples a tad longer. Cos by the time my eyes focus what to look out in the examples the screen switches back to you talking.
I want to create this look for our small apartment Reno. It’s a blank space in a Victorian house. I am creating a white kitchen as space is small but worried too white even if I use warm whites on the glossy ikea white kitchen fronts. How best to approach the wall colours. Currently only have a light grey couch that we need to use.
Totally depends but maybe an open shelving in oak somewhere? Panelling on kitchen island facade is another possibility. Warm white (or soft grey) instead of cold white, maybe a finish that is not too glossy (something like low sheen). Accent pieces can also help - timber bar stool, pendant with timber accent or in rattan, greeneries, artwork; even kitchen/tableware like knife blocks, salt pepper grinder, chopping boards, or accessories like linen tea towel hung on a bamboo/timber hook.
They're just bringing back the beige from the 90s and early 2000s, which is ugly AF. This is too much browns. I feel like the creator has created a false dichotomy of you must either have your room completely white and sterile or brown and ugly. Instead, we know we must balance these two extremes together in harmony, that way it feels both warm and welcoming but also sophisticated and clean, but not too much of either.

This is exactly what I was looking for a long time. Tired of all white and greys. Thank you for compiling and preparing this for us.
never been a fan of minimalism as I find them clinical. but this new trend of warm minimalism might work for me. Thank you for the video. Now I can start researching for my next apartment

I'm designing my bedroom and going with warm minimalistic look thanks for video ❤
Love this style. It's a bit Japandi only with a little less stuff.
Loved the references at the end!
Finally you put a name to the style that I really like, just didn't know what to call it.
Thanks Reynard. I'm moving to a new apartment soon and your channel has me super excited to apply all of your teachings 🤓
I hope everything goes smoothly for you! I'm also in the same boat
Yes, another great video, thank you so much! I loved the book proposals as well.
Thanks for the tips! We bought a minimalism house which I no clue how to decorate it without ruining the space. I only know keep everything simple and hide all the mess😂 I’ll dig in more of your videos about soft minimalism.
I like both!
Loved his video…..warm minimalism is definitely my look. Your visuals are gorgeous
Lovely video. Thanks for sharing. 👍🥰

I think you might be more interested in mid century modern which is like warm minimalism but with more versatility.
Always spot on - thank you for all the detail!
Love your content Reynard! Keep them coming. You certainly have inspired me in my own design journey. Im loving the warm minimalism and Japandi styles. But the 2 seem almost synonymous.
I’m trying to achieve this with my home office renovation and this video just popped up. So helpful, thank you
Such a a huge fan of Norm Architects, my dream is to work with them one day to design a home
YT recommended me your channel. I watched a few videos & liked what I saw. Like your designs, tips & makeovers. Have subscribed.
That was fascinating, Reynard! Thanks for sharing the knowledge!👍🏽
Thanks for making this excellent video. I've been drawn to warm minimalism but was not sure how to start. I like your clear explanations and examples. Just subscribed :)
Where were you Reynard for so many days.. I missed you!!! ☹️😢
Thank you for the education!

Do you only do designing for Australia? Any chance you would do for a person in Europe?
Good content

I’m curious where you got the floor lamp that’s behind you?
Hi Reynard, would colours of curtains matter in warm minimalism ? Do I need to choose cream or ivory shades vs stark white curtains in order to do warm minimalism ? Thanks !
Could you also create a video on wabi sabi? Many examples I’ve watched don’t make it appear very cozy.

This brings to mind Frank Lloyd Wright.
Does anybody know what is that beautiful blue greenish colour around minute 3.33? I would be forever grateful
Great work, where do you get your curtains, I love them, I am in Calif
Yes! Love warm minimalism, currently trying to do this with my apartment... Keyword is "trying"😅, I've recently discovered I tend to go maximalist with the art on the wall 🥲
I love to watch videos of Japanese housewives and they all have house with that vibe. Very calming and comfy 💖

warm minimalism reminds me so much of japandi tho…
I am a minimalist with a pink velvet couch. hah
my boyfriend and I are renovating and we love soft minimalism because it is modern yet timeless. do you think this style is here to stay?
To be blunt, no style is forever. I think it's best to style your home based on your personal tastes rather than following a defined style or trend, this way no matter what happens you will love spending time in your home for the next 10-20 years.

Did I just hear " creative juice " ?
I would buy the book, but I have no bookshelf to store it, because I am designing my place, therefore cant buy the book. I am stuck in the loop :(

To me, this warm minimalism destroys the 'original' minimalism.
Well, it is fine if you like it though.
Just, I like the og better. Much better.
I left you a work related message on your site's form about a year ago, I guess it's time to officially let it go since you never responded
They're just bringing back the beige from the 90s and early 2000s, which is ugly AF. This is too much browns. I feel like the creator has created a false dichotomy of you must either have your room completely white and sterile or brown and ugly. Reading. Very boring, more pictures are needed.
Nothing compared to traditional minimalism, warm minimalism is a joke!
