The scene where they walk out the door one by one,... and Gord Downie is the last one to walk through the door, at the last moment he turns and looks right at the camera, then turns and walks out. Shivers!
I was lucky enough to see them within arm's reach. Standing mere feet from the stage I didn't really understand where I was. Watching videos and reading other people's comments I have come to understand how fortunate I am.
Some bands play music and you leave their show happy you had a good time. A few bands transmit a signal deep into your soul that carries long after the show is over. The Hip made every show last after the last note was fading. Thank you.
I’m on a journey to discover The Tragically Hip for the first time in my life. I’ve been listening for the past month and am in complete awe. Especially with this song. Gord Downie is like the Van Gogh of songwriting. Almost surreal, but dig a little beneath the surface and his words are so profound and relatable at the same time. He truly was an antenna for something beyond our understanding. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
One of my sons favourite songs from this great group. Sadly my son passed away on Monday December 21st 2020 from the same brain tumour that Gord passed away from.
I've said it a dozen times but again, rest in peace downie. the family misses you, the band misses you, the country misses you. You may not have intended to be but you are an inspiration. ✌
I love how this was all filmed at Parkwood in Oshawa!! lol... My sister got married here, My highschool prom was here, and my parents renewed their wedding vows after 35 years right by that outdoor pool shown in the end of the video... :)

One of my favourite Hip tracks. We love you Gord. Thanks for the poetry and music. You taught Canadians it is cool to be open and vulnerable and honest.
Such a sadly ironic song title these days. What a bittersweet ending for Gord and his bandmates. Cheers to them for having the strength to go out on their own terms.
After discovering this beauty of a song (from Feist playing with them) I'm very curious to discover what you are writing about... and discovering this band. Who wrote something like this must have had plenty more great things to say...
@@MrPinkfloydian You will not regret it. The THip is and forever will be my favourite band. So many incredible albums, so many incredible stories. I’m glad you found this song - it’s my absolute favourite of theirs.
This song has carried me through the last couple of years. Cause in the forget-yer-skates dream, you can hang your head in woe.. And this diverse-as-ever scene know which way to go. Much love to Gord and the band from Canada
I don't even know if this makes sense but all I can think to say is "beautiful pain", there's hurt here but its expressed with much beauty. I wish I understood the story that's being told here in this video. I never knew of this band until recently, I wish I had...but music is timeless. RIP Mr. Downie, I understand very well why Canada loves you!! Much love to all from The UK.
I saw them in 2009 at the Manchester Academy 3, which holds about 200, is all standing and has a bar in the room. It was like seeing someone like U2 in your local pub.
@@mikeilkycook6832 Fantastic! I don't think I've been to Manchester Academy but it sounds much like the Birmingham Academy from your description so I think I can picture the scene...and from what I've seen of their live performances on here, I can imagine the energy you experienced. Damn shame that I came to them so late, way too late!
There are lines in this song that resonate 10x deeper after you've reached a certain age/time of life. I've always loved this song deeply, but now as I find myself in my late 50s and doing a lot of introspection, lines like 'let's get friendship right' sung with the emphasis and emotion he sings it with...GD is truly unrivaled and so very deeply missed...
I'm in this video. I'm was the kid that's sitting there with the old guy at 3:12 also the one in the picture closer to the beginning. Wow, it's been a while...
I love many genres of music ,and play guitar myself. But the Hip covered almost all the genres ,and at times blended all their personal preferences into their music. They made it !!No perhaps not in the U.S., but they played in many U.S. cities and were well received. You can hear the Stones ,you can hear country influence and even alternative ,but in the end that's what makes the Hip original and CANADIAN!! RIP GORDON!!
This band saw me through a lot of darkness. I choose to believe in miracles and send blessings, juju, all the happiness I can muster to Gordie, the band, and their families. Your are a gift.
This was one of the most difficult song I've learned from The Hip. It's the chord changes and chords I'm not used to playing. And then there's the lyrics. It took awhile, but I can perform this song now. I can do 4 hours of singing and playing my guitar along with The Hip. I'm going to work on another 10 songs this winter. I started to work on The Hip songs in 2015, I play the rhythm for all the songs and I can do some solos like on New Orleans Is Sinking. In 2012 I started working on Elvis, and now I can perform 5 hours of Elvis. I can play my guitar along with most of the songs. I know it's hard for the band after losing Gord, it makes me sad sometimes. I know that this would be impossible, but, I wish that I could be the next Tragically Hip singer. I'm indigenous, from northwestern British Columbia, a Gitxsan, Wolf Tribe, from the House of Gwaashlaam, Gitanyow, BC.
I don't know if you'll ever see this, or where the years have taken you, but as I read your comment I just kept thinking, I really hope you've continued to play this music, maybe even formed a Hip tribute band...keep up yr good work...❤❤❤
Rick A. At least you know who they are now. Cool nights, hot fire, cold beer and The Hip makes a hell of a night. The good thing about music is that it never dies - kick back and enjoy.
08/10/16... wish the night could have lasted forever feels surreal that it didn't. But so many happy memories and the music will live on. Thank you Gord, you are stronger than most including myself for giving one us all what could be one last chance to watch and enjoy a truly gift person captivate thousands.
I LOVE this Hip song! One of my top #1 favs, yet so many are #1! lol! So good there are so many HIT SONGS! After 32 years together as these guys THE BAND The Tragically Hip are what you always want a BAND to be. They are very hard working men whom are friends, a good strong solid Team and that band is "THE BESTEST' one ...LIKE A FINE WINE OR A HOT SPORTS CAR smooth so refined. This song is so TRUE! Thank-you for writing this song!💗
The music of my soul. Gord you will always be the pinnacle of art and beauty with a deep understanding of the human condition and inner conflict. There will never be a equal. All the best my friend.
What an awesome band. I just caught them on a PBS special. Sad to hear this talented man had to pass so early in life. Their band name is definitely appropriate
I dedicate this to you my sweet son Matt. You left me to soon, I should not had to bury you, i was suppose to go before you, a mother should never bury her child. Glioblastoma is a horrible disease. You fought so hard my baby boy. I miss you my sweet boy.
Hope your at peace when the time comes Gord, you deserve much much more. Your music really touches the soul. Glad you and the band are having one last jamboree, rock on.

No band has meant more to me or has touched me intellectually and soulfully more than The Hip. That goes for the Beatles too... yeah, I said it and I mean it. RIP Gord
I've always loved all the bare trees in this video...the ones in the beginning and the ones used as their stage backdrop; they seem to go with the song.
I used to live in Riverdale not far from Gord Downie. He was well-known in the neighborhood for giving hobos hundred dollar bills from time to time. Cool cat.

Downie looks so cool he moves with such grace and groove.
I can't explain why but this song hits every one of my feelings
When the color of the night
And all the smoke for one life
Gives way to shaky movements
Improvisational skills
A forest of whispering speakers
Let's swear that we will
Get with the times
In a current health to stay
Let's get friendship right
Get life day to day
In the forget yer skates dream
Full of countervailing woes
In diverse as ever scenes
Proceeding on a need to know
In a face so full of meaning
As to almost make it glow
For for a good life
We just might have to weaken
And find somewhere to go
Go somewhere we're needed
Find somewhere to grow
Go somewhere we're needed
When the color of the night
And all the smoke in one life
Gives way to shaky movements
Improvisational skills
In the forest of whispering speakers
Let's swear that we will
Get with the times
In a current health to stay
And let's get friendship right
Get life day to day
In the forget yer skates dream
Full of countervailing woes
In diverse as ever scenes
Proceeding on a need to know
In a face so full of meaning
As to almost make it glow
For for a good life
We just might have to weaken
And find somewhere to go
Go somewhere we're needed
Find somewhere to grow
Go somewhere we're needed
Find somewhere to go
Let's go somewhere we're needed
Find somewhere to grow
Go where we're needed
'Cause in the forget-yer-skates dream
You can hang your head in woe
And this diverse as ever scene
Know which way to go
