Orange County Choppes were cupcake 🧁 decorators
Exactly...!
Sooooo... Nice cupcake! You going to eat that?
Hell no! Looks great, but smells like old diesel and rat poison. Here, you have a bite.
Um. No thanks, I can smell it from here.
Lol.
The fact that he hit a bump and the bike fell apart says a lot about OCC

The ignition was wired through the taillight? Inconceivable!
No beef..........but yeah their motorcycles SUCKED
Custom vehicles suck, I've had some very cool custom vehicles but your taking away factory engineering and putting in your own or someone else's hands and even if you do quality work the reliability and functionality will never be as good no n matter how good they look or fast they are
@@scottbabien4395partially true, if you’re buying good and trusted aftermarket hardware and you install it perfectly, you should be up to par with OEM. a lot of that stuff has a similar amount of RND behind it, and you’d be right to say not as much as from a manufacturer, but quality parts and craftsmanship do exist.
Both things can be true
The difference is he knew he was buying a novelty toy and not a daily driver. So it can be junk and still not be mad about it.
@@Vincent_Beersor if you worth a half a billion it makes it easier to forgive
When Jay says "They're not very good motorcycles" the entire story has been told.
Those bike were & are just NOVELTY BIKES. 🚽
Not the one Jay bought, he wanted something to ride. Re-watch the episode
Those bikes look really great on display. That’s it.
@@bswat4410yet they couldn’t do it….
Unfortunately that novelty wore off shortly after starting the bike.
The only one I really liked and would of ridden was the snap on bike. It met its so called theme with the best integrations. But most of those bikes was shit and if you watched the show the revelled several bikes that was not even running. No way in hell they was ever worth anything near what they charged.
The start of the reply from jay was like the best jay Leno impersonation.
Didn't even build them. Ordered chassis and motors. Made handlebars and gas tanks then sent them to chrome and paint for 6 figures lol😂
Catalog parts all over em.
That is a genius business model.
you would think they would have been better bikes since they didnt really build them.
many car builders by that standard dont build the cars since they order all the parts and assemble it.
20 yrs later OCC bikes are only worth pennies on the dollar and still don't sell.Garage dust collectors
Are they even worth scrap value?
@@MostlyHarmless86, I've heard they do use good engines, but that's about the extent of it. (and I like your 'mostly harmless' name)
@@bobmarlowe3390 "... I've heard they do use good engines...."
Do they actually do their own engines or did they buy them from somebody else?
More collector value in the Schwinn version.
I believe they are crate S&S engines, so they had nothing to do with the engines @longshot7601
Did a bike show years ago the Snap-On Tools sponsored. The S-O bike OCC had built for them was there. The guys from the Company all told me they'd take my scooter in a heartbeat over the one they had built.
Found that quite amusing.
Jay Leno " they're not very good motorcycles" god damm you didn't have to kill them granda!
He's not the only one that wasn't happy with orange county choppers
OCC was a therapy session rather than bike builders
Their bikes were show pieces not really meant for the road. You watch that show a bit it’s clear they don’t really know what they’re doing lol
Not the second time I've heard bad thing about OC choppers. Lol
Or third or fourth time.
OCC bikes Are junks! Even the welds were really bad.I know, seen them in person up close.😬
My buddy said he seen one up close at a show and that's the one thing he mentioned he said he literally seen mig wire on one of the welds... that's from him not me... was it that bad?
@@user-mr7hr9qi6z
I saw one too, the welds looked like the frame was built as a college welding school project.
Didn't they venture on to development of medical products associated with the "jabs"?
It’s not just that Jay’s bike sucked. It’s that ALL of the bikes built by OCC were garbage on pretty much every metric of judgment.
All there bikes were junk
Big ass eye sores. I never liked any of their builds. No one is riding them anymore. Dude brought one in to Pawn Stars thinking he was a baller. They offered to maybe buy the engine.

No beef Jay Leno just appreciates a well-crafted machine. Orange County choppers was never a well-crafted anything.
OCC didn't build bikes they assembled them, and not very well.
Wow wow wow Hang on a sec there mate. Paul Jr made spiderwebs out of round bar sometimes.
Yup. They were a glorified version of the guy who puts bikes together in the toy department. But worse.
I’ve heard before that their motorcycles are not the best quality.
OCC was making one off pieces of art ....they would "guess" at measurements. No CNC, no assembly fixtures, no QC protocols......it was like watching kids build go-carts out of spare parts
They spec'd a lot of their parts out !
measurements , they took measurements ?
As a QC guy in manufacturing, I greatly appreciate you including QC protocols in your assessment. I think people might be amazed how much stuff an engineer can fuck up.
I can't remember the guy's name now, but they had one guy who ran a big-ass CNC machine making wheels and stuff. He seemed to know what he was doing.
I think that might have been at the company they had making their wheels for them. If I remember right, it seems like they did have a water jet machine for cutting out steel gussets and other parts.
Whatever wiring harness they used probably had that set up that way intentionally. That was a safety feature on a lot of European bikes. They didn't want you out on the road at night with a burned-out taillight, so they would wire the ignition through the taillight. Taillight burns out, engine quits. Especially with mopeds. Virtually every European moped I've ever found rusting away behind somebody's garage had a burned out taillight. The story always was that it had run great for a long time, then it quit one day and nobody could ever figure out what was wrong with it. Never thought to look at the taillight, and who would have, unless somebody told them. A lot of imported mopeds have rusted to junk because of a burned out taillight.
In the spirit of Prodigy, and respects to Andy, "slap my taillight up"!
@@garycallihan4206on a lot of European bikes?
Dare to share the brand(s)?
Not the case at all. Not here in the states. All that was is an easy cheap way of getting power. Nothing more
@@user-pm5od6rk4v
If it was an imported wiring harness, it may well have been done that way.
if i paid for that kind of money for a bike and they fucked up the taillight id be pissed to
They didn't fuck up the tail light. They wired the ignition through the tail light so when it fell off the engine stopped working. I guess they did fuck up the tail light but that's not the real issue at hand.

I used to deliver to Gillette in Boston and I got a close up look a few times of the bike occ built for Gillette. It was horrible.
I was a faithful watcher of that show back in the day. I remember when they built the Gillette bike you weren’t even able tosteer it, and they just laughed and said they won’t be able to make a turn.
Hey I worked at Duracell in Danbury back around 2005 or so. And they had a display of their bike in the building . Meet the owner what a rude asshole he was.
OCC to me was pimp my ride for choppers. They are good to look at(may be not always).
This is what Jesse James was saying about their bikes. OCC bikes are more of a art piece.
Exactly! Now many years later people finally noticed too.
@@JohnConnor-1984 I remember when they had the biker build off. It was Jr vs Sr vs Jesse James. They did exactly what he said they were going to do. Make art pieces.
There is a reason the chopper renaissance was so short lived as they're terrible bikes to begin with, but maybe the design flaws were less noticeable in the 60s and 70 when im sure even Harleys provided a much rougher ride.
It was a built-in safety feature. You NEED to stop if your tail light falls off.
Build a good bike your tail light shouldn't fall off
Because they knew for a fact parts were gonna be falling off that bike over bumps? Yea I’d buy that honestly
I don't think the light fell off, it was just the bulb that blew...

Looks? They look like shit! 😂
The best bike that appeared on the show was a Kawasaki Quad that Paul senior got for his birthday
Much the same as Fast 'n Loud.
I'd like to know how long their cars run afterwards.
A barn find to showroom condition in a couple of weeks? Yeah.
Actually a couple of fast and load’s builds are still around. Not really anything to complain about. The whole 2 week thing was tv crap. Pretty sure they spent like weeks building each one after sourcing the perfect starting point.
Don’t forget Sr. used to make wrought iron ornamental railings, I mean thats close enough and he stayed at a motel 6! Impressive resume.
The guy from OCC is a blowhard!
Vinnie was the only guy that gave a crap
Rick Petko was a VERY skilled man...
@@christopherdean1326And he still is! 👍
Orange county choppers never built a single bike ever. They bought pre built frames, pre built engines, bolted them up, and hung a lot of gaudy shit on them.
End of story....
Never buy a vehicle from a group that got their fame and recognition through a tv series. Anything that is made within a 45 minute timeframe for a tv show is thrown together. As long as it runs it’s all good.
Although...Aaron Kaufman from Gas Monkey Garage did some quality builds.. despite Richard wanting to just "send it" !! 😂

I like how Jay tried to let that go for maybe 3 seconds before explaining his OCC misgivings
i never heard bad stuff about the westcoast choppers bikes but now im gonna look around
I had several older Italian bikes that would not run if the tail light bulb was either wrong or blown out. They somehow used the tail light circuit in the stator and ignition circuit. One would stall if you pulled the brake lever if the rear bulb had a bad filament or wrong bulb.
A bulb fixed it every time and you learned to carry a box of spare bulbs.
Thinking about now, many years later I suppose those bikes either were using the tail light bulb as sort of a ballast resistor or they were using the tail light circuit to ground the magneto coils somehow.
Listen to how high Jay's voice went when the dude asks :
" so, no bad blood between you and the Tutels"
😆
Why tf would someone wire an engine through the taillight ? That’s crazy
So if you’re tail light goes out you do t keep riding? A safety feature?
@@joshuajkoplin safety?? Wtf? How about put a light on it that tells you the lights out. Not stranded somewhere 😂😂😂😂. Glad you’re not an engineer man

Sounds like GM wiring their cars through the radio.
If i understand it all correctly.
OCC bikes are for display only and not for actually riding them.
May be an unpopular opinion, but they aren't even good showroom bikes, it was all just drama 🙄
Even the drama wasn't that good.
It was entertaining to watch, but my god did they built some horrible bikes. I don't remember seeing them build a single ridable bike. They were all display bikes that were unridable. They had some talent in the shop, I hope those guys found a place to show that talent off the real way.
Seeing Jay live next week…. Excited 😎
I watched that show several times, obvious they knew nothing at all about motorcycle design (engineering design) ...they were like bakers who bought a cake and then added the icing. They’d write anything you wanted on the cake, for a price!
Bro basically put the nail in the casket 😅
I visited a bike shop down here in Miami who had one of their bikes. Guy told me the same story that the wiring was a mess
They didn't build bikes, they put bikes together.
When the taillight pops off and it quits running........that some bad crap !!
I'm amazed the OCC bike ran at all.
Their bikes are built to never be ridden or used in any way. There are basically made to sit in a spot and look pretty.
Never let beef marinate, always squash it.
I don't care for choppers because I am a seasoned, trained, lifetime Motorcyclist. NOT a motor_bike_driver.
My best friend’s cousin’s mom’s boyfriend’s brother is Jay Leno’s chin specialist and he said Jay is actually the father of Josh Peck
Jay's face looks alot tighter and younger since the fire incident, glad he ok🎉🎉❤
There is an OCC bike at the Air Force Museum (NMUSAF). Talked to a guy who rides bikes a lot. Said the OCC bike was underpowered, weak brakes, no suspension, no gages, Not even a Speedo or fuel gage. Terrible bike just meant to look at.
I wouldn’t let big Paul build me a bicycle.
I wouldn't let him build me a spice rack.
Everyone who has a motorcycle channel says that their bikes are awful
They are display pieces. Fairly worth calling motorcycles.
Watching the show made me sure I would never own one.
Those bikes weren’t for riding they were for lookin at is all.. like art? 🖼️
Jay leno and Jeremy Clarkson are both aging the same way.
I love my occ bike there's nothing wrong with it. Just as long as I don't ride it or move it around nothing falls off of it if it just sits there
OCC was/is Trash 🗑
There’s that “Just get it done” attitude paying dividends.
it's beef you can tell
Yeah, it really feels like he just decided that it wasn't worth making a big deal out of it publicly anymore. But he's still p*ssed.
Their bikes are cheaper than the pimp your ride vehicles.
They wired the electrical essentials through the tail light? Lol
Jay Leno is a very humble and gracious man.
They used hammers to work on bikes, fucking hammers. That was all I needed to see.
That’s why you have redundancies built in. Sure they look cool or whatever but one short/break in that circuit and you’re now stranded.
you will never hear Jay Leno say a bad thing about anybody.
he just did,,,did you miss it ?
Anything man made, is subject to faults and failures. My son was scared to death he forgot to tighten something. I simply told him, work and focus on one thing, tighten it properly, then move on. This is why good shops have a white board with a punch-list!
So, if the rear light bulb burned out, the cycle would stop running? Sounds like these guys were geniuses.
I worked for a company that they built a bike for. First time they took it out on a ride it broke down. It constantly overheated
The people who paid 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100 thousand for those things, got burnt !
Cheep works of art and people went crazy over them 😂❤
OCC weren't in the bike building business, they were in the entertainment business. The bikes were built to make the show. The bikes were functional, but really they're meant as show pieces.
Did your mother tell you , Motorcycles are Dangerous . 😂
I was a fan of OCC, but I agree with Jay, if the taillight falls off, the engine shouldn't cut out and leave you stranded 😂😂
What drove me away from OCC's show was how every build was on an impossible deadline. Yeah, I know they were doing it to create drama for the show, but I could see them hiring a business consultant: "This is how you run your business? And you don't understand why it's failing? 😮💨". What's that old saying? "Bad planning on your part doesn't make it an emergency on my part."
Wired in a loop , I rode for many years that way .
Jay still got beef
I remember that bike. Leno wanted a Vincent replica, an early cafe racer type. But they had no idea how to make a bike, besides just slapping S&S parts on a frame. Having to deal with a rear suspension and front and rear suspension geometry was not their strong suit.
Kinda saw that with the drag racing bike they tried building. I think they wanted to cut the frame in half and an expert there thought it was a bad idea. If I remember right, I think they did it anyway
He’s like who? Ooh yeah those guys are so far beneath me I almost forgot about them
My brother had an 85 Cadillac and it shut off suddenly and his friend was actually a mechanic for Cadillac an told my brother to see if the dome light was working and it wasn't so he told my brother to change the 1157 bulb and it cranked right up. Believe it or not, the damn ignition was wired through the dome light and needed a good bulb for continuity .
