I'm so glad I've found your channel. It will be a good while (a few years) before I'm able to get my first tank, but I always knew I wanted a marine tank. I totally plan to do plenty of research before I've saved enough to get my first set up. I want to get it right & not waste any money. I'm not just doing it for me, but also for my nieces & nephew. I don't want to have to explain to them that all my fish died because I didn't do my research! I totally plan on having a consultation with you nearer to when I'll be buying my first set up. Thank you for your videos & website. I'm very grateful. They're a huge help. Having had tropical fish as I grew up, I can totally vouch for you when you say that the shop will sell you unnecessary crap & not give you much helpful info. Our experience was a total disaster, my parents had no clue what they were doing & it didn't last long. I'd much rather spend time learning from your videos & money for a consultation with you before I pay a penny towards equipment & fish, than take the risks of getting it wrong & being very disappointed.
I started having success growing corals when I started testing my KH weekly and actually doing something about it when it was low. This then progressed to automatically dosing KH, Ca and Mg and since then I have had even more success. Key thing is test regularly to find out what is going on in your tank *and* then take action when something is too high or low, don’t reef blind and the success will come!
I did little to no prep or research. I had a friend who had a marine tank years ago. I went in knowing it will cost I'm 12 months in and have had no real issues other than a few losses. I'm now running NSW and dosing trace.
Good to know I've been doing the right thing so far! Bought a 50 gallon tank a year ago but avoided setting it up because I knew I just didn't understand the chemistry well enough. Now I've just bought a 13.5 evo to really get to grips with it and once I'm comfy set up the big one!
this is me and how ive been succesful so far first time reefer but ive been keeping fish for about 10 or 11 years now and just last december i got into reefing and i got my first few pieces of acro about 6 or 7 months ago and my system is great since i cant really afford to get alot a once i have to get a few at a time and it really helps me be patient.
This is so helpful as for someone like me who is starting small in this hobby. Also unrelated question, could you do a care guide for convict tangs? I see you have one and its looking as healthy as ever.
Awesome video and great tips! I am currently looking into creating my first ever marine tank, so fingers crossed all goes well. What is the name of the fish at 1:51?
You forgot to mention not keeping permanent markers near your whiteboard 😉 ( a tiny touch of brake cleaner on a rag will take it straight off)...... May have done it a few times myself
People not reading books has become an issue IMO. Just because instead of learning from one source of information at the start they are learning from all over the place, forums, 5 different UA-cam channels etc. It just doesn't work. For one you naturaly cherry pick the bits you want to listen too
Still doing consults? I’m in the build list process of a 96 or 120 length tank but at this point I rather pay someone to answer all my stupid questions and advise me the correct way
Good mentor wont try selling you anything, lol My friend sometimes offers me free stuff like cheap corals cheap inverts a bit of 3 yr old rock from his huge reef etc

Make a video on every specific piece of equipment you would use for a reef tank. Ie. what brand if nitrate kit and stuff like that

13 is a tough size for beginners because the chemistry can change very fast. I'd actually recommend starting with the 50. No less than 20.
Sound advice dude👍🏻👍🏻

Some good advice offered here Ryan, especially the last one being patience. LOL..

Loved this video Ryan 🙌🏻👍🏻
"Like a Clown Tang....three times" LOL
Learning basic chemistry will take anyone a long way in the hobby.
research, find a mentor, get a plan and goal, establish a routine, and be patient
Great info!
Great job mate
Id like to hear your opinion on keeping moorish idols! Maybe you could make a "do you really want" video about them

What kind of coral is at 1:39?
Great advice 👍🏾

Of course, there is a section on the website to book one
@@PrestigeReef seems like a call would be difficult since we’re on complete opposite times zones lol
Its exactly 8.3 times harder than freshwater tanks
