    CIG needs to look at what happened in Elite with Engineering (their version of crafting). All upgrades were significant, in return for a long grind finding materials. It meant that anybody that wasn't in a highly engineered PvP specific ship was just meat for the grinder in a PvP encounter. It absolutely murdered any sense of balance in the game, and almost everyone fucked off to private group and solo modes to avoid PvP.

      This was exactly the problem that should ensure the type of crafting CIG wants never enters the game. Elite's engineering was the perfect example of why this should never be allowed. Engineering was great for the solo player or non-combat gameplay but awful for any sort of balanced combat. To Frontier's credit, they did try to add tangible negatives to engineered components. For every positive you would also get a negative. Of course, the positives always greatly outweighed the negatives. Aand with the right combo of traits and player persistence you could engineer an upgrade that hardly had negatives at all. IF we do a real crafting upgrade system for SC, there need to be real negatives. Upgrading performance should be a risk. Like hot-rodding a car or overclocking a computer. You might be able to squeeze a little extra performance out of the system, but at great risk of just detonating the whole thing if you got it wrong. Upgrades need to add weight or extra resource draw (power, cooling, etc), or be prone to breaking down, lower the component HP, etc. Yeah you can upgrade, but you have to be careful. Maybe those upgraded thrusters require an extra tick of power and 2 extra for cooling and now you don't have as much headroom for guns or shields. That sort of thing.

      That's 100% what I heard when they mentioned the crafting to improve ship stats. And having the industrial ship force to take down its shields on top of that is hilarious.
      That's the main reason people don't play in open in ED, and there's not even this option here...

    @2:40 When Jared says "We want to talk about what our plan is, what our vision is..." that's pretty much the main problem with star citizen in the 13th year of development. They are still mostly talk. Will backers give them another 0.8 Billion to play with? Seems like at this rate they are going to need it to deliver a functional game.

It's not being clueless, it's just an extremely complex system whose scope was never even conceived of 10 years ago.

    They know how individual systems work but not how the collective interacts, and they seem to have never been designing the game with that in mind...

      @@explorer47422 I'm a software developer myself, granted not a game dev, but we typically know how things will workout most of the time, this is because we don't have the luxury of rolling back stuff because it breaks the user experience, I think this is what CIG lacks, they think they can keep on trying, but it's not the case anymore.

      It is like a child designing a game with a long bullet point list of features thinking they're a genius because nobody else thought of a realistic looking minecraft universe before.
      Thinking it up like that is the easy part the hard part is to both make it work and be enjoyable to play.
      You can add acorns that grow to trees all you want into a game but thats not actually what matters in the slightest

But no milestone would be greenlit or passed if this happened as constantly and frequently as it happens in over 10y at CIG. It's a company full of noobies in all departments except coding and art. And the leadership / management is still making games like it's 1999.

      @@explorer47422 No this doesn't happen all the time in game development.. Only to extremely incompetent dev teams.. Does it happen ocassionally when a few things get overlooked? Sure. Are there moments where you try to figure out how to get mechanics to function together? Absolutely.
      Is there ever a moment after 5 iterations of a game mechanic, 10 years into development, and you still have F all no clue how its going to work, how its going to interact with other mechanics, and having no sense of any idea wtf you're doing? Absolutely not for any team that isn't brain rotted incompetent....
      Unfortunately for us.. CIG is apparently brain rotted incompetent to a very high extreme.

    It’s super simple.
    No more nav mode, you’re always in SCM with SCM flight speeds.
    If you turn off your shields and turn on your QDrive (still in SCM!), you get the ability to quantum boost and quantum travel while still in SCM.
    That’s the whole thing. It’s all just changing which component is powered on using engineering/power management.

      @@janschmid281tier one ships have bower speeds like scm and tier 5 ships get nav mode speeds as their default.
      This takes away the pay to win advantage

      Remember the objective was to have combat at closer ranges? Higher speeds increases the engagement distance. I do wonder if the pushback is forcing them to acknowledge they cannot have knife distance combat in star system sized play spaces....

      What do you do when master modes are bad?
      Correct, you rename them to "operator modes" and throw in crafting and another additional mode into the mix.

      @@senn4237 You forgot the part where they cut features to see if they can get away with it. They didn't with trying to remove base building from the Galaxy but they seem to be getting away with it when removing repair functionality from the hangar on the polaris.

Plus, IAE Show has always been about describing far off concepts through the 3 episodes, why are people expecting something different?

    My first and favorite learning experience with flight was in the old flight model. crashed straight into an asteroid around Grim Hex, was kind of embarrassed but i laughed real hard about it. But that taught me that i need to more more in control of the speeds i was traveling. This current flight model feels like im being hand held to much.

      ​@matteobarbarini3120 I've yet to get on a server without 10 people asking if the Idris is spawning. The number of Phase 3 completed for me is 2. The number of "abandoned" is 10. I didn't manually abandon them either. All this is documented in the mobiglass contracts tab. Quit sqawking "lies after lies" because you had a different experience.

      Like I said after Kickstarter and switch to AAA+ = 2026-2027 release quality and a few years after Kickstarter I added 2025-2026 for sq42.
      This is why I ignored every release date estimate, CIG and Chris new when it switched to AAA+ focus there was no way to do it within a decade as Dev costs to release quality and Labor hours as I said back then approx ONE BILLION USD / 10+ years / for a MMO at AAA+ quality.
      this is why I didn't back originally as I was wondering how they were going to get the rest of the millions and 10+ years + quality Devs + gamers are stupid, impatient and have almost no understanding on game Dev outside fiction and dis-info folks like EA, friends and shills BS consumers with so they can sell them less while pretending it's more.
      I just made an estimate based on the facts at the time, my Dev knowledge etc, that's why nothing is a surprise for me or even other developers and why I haven't changed my estimate in 10 years.

      @@Garris_Shrike you understand that balance changes happen over the course of a games life and this is essentially a balance change to address the skill gap problem they had in the previous flight model between expert players and average players.
      Don’t get me wrong, this flight model sucks and the old one was 100 times better. I’m just not that mad with them implementing drastic balance changes while they figure out the optimal system.
      1.0 won’t be waiting on balance changes which only really effect the outcome of PvP fights. If everything else was ready the game would ship today while they continue to balance and adapt the flight model post 1.0.

    I am now on my 4th day of not doing anything in IAE
    Day 1, I barely got to get the ship rented, elevators where bugged so could not leave the station
    Day 2, could not rent a ship .. for 3 hours I just looked at ships.
    Day 3, I finally rented at ship, and after 2 hours of trying to get elevators to work, logged.
    Day 4, most exciting day "Drake" I finally got to my hangar, but the hangar bay doors didn't open - after 3 hours I gave up.
    These are the exact same issues I had last IAE, and the IAE before that, - something as simple as "just playing the game" is still not possible, why would I care about crafting and new ships, when it's still the same issues as the last 3 years...

      Really strange. I didn't had a single issue. The performance of servers were a bit worse than usual. but still much better than last year. Played many hours without crash or gamebreaking bugs. Visited IAE, killed many Idris, did all the cargo-missions... no problem, really! ... Anyhow, some ppl. complained. Eventually, the region was bad? (EU was broadly fine)

      I've played around 8 hours a day every day this IAE without issue. Honestly from speaking with my org. Some people just get the issue bug. We have a few like that. But the majority of us have been doing ship testing, stanton events, and other activities just fine. I do think though if you play during the top of the peak hours at the evening you are more likely to find them due to server congestion if I had to guess.

      Think you guys got lucky. The lifts of micro tech feed on many people. Week day early morning the servers where fine. By evening most I joined where crashing or just didn't have thing working. mostly lifts or hostile spawns.

    I'm so fucking tired of CIG putting the cart before the horse. Why are we even worried about any of this shit like engineering, crafting, and ship customization/outfitting when we don't even have a working BASIC ship component system? Half the stats on the modules are meaningless and don't even function. It's an illusion of variety, and none of it matters yet. I don't even understand why we have all these options when 90% don't matter? Make basic outfitting do SOMETHING before you even start worrying about engineering/overclocking, crafting, etc. Jesus christ...

    There IS somebody "for" master modes: CIG. The reason isn't that it helps game play. The reason is somewhat that it reduces required physics frame rates, but mainly because it reduces network requirements. The "requirements" include not only bandwidth, but the quality of how the code reacts to problems. Recovering from poor handling of errors on a slow network is easier than doing so when things must recover faster.

    They fucked up with MM introducction and keep fucking it up. Fuck crafting, how or why do i have the knowledge to craft a better thruster than a Spaceship manufacturer??? why wouldn't that manufacturer offer me a higher level thruster? A solo combat pilot can craft it but a whole spaceship manufacturer can't? wtf?

      The way i envision it is a solo pilot will go to a player or org who specializes in developing that better thruster and you purchase from a player instead of AI, driving a player driven economy? Idk man im try to be hopeful lol

    The only thing Elite Dangerous got right was the flight model. Two modes - flying in 6 degrees of movement in normal space - easily balanced and then the Intra-System Frame Shift space. Sounds like they're describing the ability to manually fly longer distances quickly, than ever before.
    Currently we are spending more time stuck in QT where there's nothing to do and we can't get out of the chair or it drops out of QT, so the engineering game play won't be an option either, unless they change it.
    Will Star Citizen be fun? When?

    On the first patch where master modes was implemented, I logged in excited about the new patch, played for a few hours, logged out, and simply never had a desire to log in again since then. Wasn't angry or anything, just a general disinterest. I would describe the feeling is like if you were listening to an audiophile system for 10 years, and then one day someone came through and said you can only use a bluetooth source on that system from now on. Just never turned the system back on from a calm lack of interest... Still watch the videos though :)

      I haven't really played since MM either. It's just not fun, and it took me 2 days MAX to realize that. The only reason MM has lasted this long is because the devs are working on a different game.

    4:50 It sounds like they got utterly hammered. Avenger (and us similarly-aligned folks) are not "getting what we want" - They are making flight less of an obnoxious pain, but nothing about this presentation has implied that they are solving the underlying, fundamental geometric problem that allows fighters to engage larger ships at ranges that larger ships cannot engage fighters.

      @@triforcecorgis1209 Interceptors and many fighters actually _can_ solo larger ships with relative ease and have been able to since before Master Modes' introduction: The Geometric Issue. Master Modes itself just makes flying ships generally, big and small, unintuitive and obnoxious and unresponsive and not at all the physics-based experience we used to have with Pritchett's flight model.

      I don't think that issue can be addressed without physicalized damage and armor, and essentially "turning off" the ability for fighter size weapons to damage large/capital ships in meaningful ways. Fighters will be fending off enemy fighters to protect their large ships and bombers, and peppering down the shields and pdc's of the other large ships in groups so that the bombers and heavier weapon ships can come in and do the actual significant damage. The ranges won't matter if the smaller weapons just don't penetrate from long range, or at all. And I think the current issues mostly only exist (after removing nav/master modes ofc) because right now we just have a gamified HP system that doesn't take anything into account except for raw damage numbers of weapons up to an arbitrary total that soft deaths or destroys a ship

      ​@@st0rm4g3dd0n What you're talking about is effectively what they've been talking about, and I think it's very lame to make large ships _fully_ immune to swarms of smaller ships. The triangle should be gunships < bombers < fighters < gunships, with gunships and defensive turrets being effective against fighters but not so effective against bombers. PDCs are probably _too_ effective right now for what they need to be. Armor doesn't need to be physicalized to be effective; applying a system of damage reduction in addition to the already-existing damage resistances (currently broadly used to apply a 50% ballistic resistance across the board) would suit the goals quite fine, making larger ships more resilient against small ship repeaters and making cannons more attractive for attacking large ships. If Armor is instead going to be "Make Me Immune to anything smaller than Size X," I can guarantee there are single or dual seaters that have those weapons, or else that makes it so that large ships can't even engage other large ships, which is bonkers. Making it a game of attacking shield emitters might help a little, requiring fighters to get in closer to try to disable them, but that feels to star-warsy and presents an incongruity with small ships not having physical shield emitters. Physical components still won't solve the problem, either, because the ships will drop into a disabled state instead of a dead state...but that just means it becomes a target to destroy or board with impunity and doesn't change anything in the greater tactical situation.
      The geometric problem is, simply stated, small ships are able to engage large ships at ranges at which large ships are not able to engage small ships. Because they use the same or very similar weapons, small ships are much more able to evade effective fire at ranges they can apply effective fire onto larger ships, and their speed and acceleration allows them to control those ranges with a far greater efficacy, especially with the low combat speeds and crippled performance characteristics of large ships that came with Master Modes.
      The solution is not simple but can be highlighted by the following bullet points: 1) reduce, slightly, the performance of small ships, and increase the performance of large ships somewhat, reducing the massive disparity (something like 12g nonboost for the best-performing ships and 4g nonboost for the worst-performing ships), 2) increase the combat speed walls to around 600-900 m/s for the largest/smallest ships, respectively, 3) reduce the nominal range of smaller guns (S1 and S2, 1500m and 2000m respectively), 4) increase the nominal range of bigger guns (S4+), 5) reduce the sizes of weapons on S1 and S2 ships such that almost no S2 ship carries S4 guns and no S1 ship carries S3 guns, 6) implement a damage reduction system for larger shields and ships to make small repeaters less able to apply effective damage, and 7) radically rework the power management system to allow larger ships to have much larger capacitors and apply extra power to their weapons in order to increase their velocity, up to double their nominal values.

    a friend of mine who doesnt play star citizen often has a huge problem getting into the game anymore.

    I understand the CIG devs treat Elite as a dirty word in their studio, but like Elite has such an elegent and simple solution to combat speed, and travel speed which is: when your weapons are deployed you ships speed output is reduced because the power is diverted from your main engines, to maneuvering thrusters, and weapons, when they are stowed your ship flys a lot faster, and the difference between those two feels a million times less arbitrary. While i do understand they have two very different design philosophies, its gettinf so frustrating watching CIG try to reinvent the wheel on literally everything, when half of these design problems have been solved in pretty simple and ingenious ways in other games!

      Elite isn't perfect... small ships are virtually useless because they aren't much more agile than mediums and lack the necessary dps to do any real damage to anything but other smalls.
      I'm pretty sure there isn't a speed penalty for having hard points deployed either...

      For what I gathered it is not about combat speeds they been talking about fully I noticed that they talk about it once by putting more power into your engines will give you more speed so you can flee from battle but you then loose power to other sysmtems. To me there talking about Quantum travel and how to make it faster to me tier 5 should only give you 20 percent advantage in that. For me is the Fuel Usage that is frustrating having to refuel halfway travelling cross a system. Only having Hydrogen to last 30 Minutes in a combat zone. That to me needs to be changed.

      This is essentially what they are doing but it's based in the power management and engineering mechanics, as well as the crafting/upgrade mechanics. They're effectively creating a "gameplay" mode (SCM) and a "travel" mode when it comes to speed. The travel mode is just switching power from your QD to your shields, which hopefully will require no more steps than turning on your QD. The weird in between step of nav is going away. And most of the balancing is going to be in the base stats of the ships + the player choice in upgrades and tuning. But it's based in the fundamental systems, so they don't need to make gamified arbitrary "modes". Which is how it should have been all along IMO, they just don't have all the tech implemented that's needed still....physicalized damage and armor, engineering, crafting, etc. So this doesn't feel to me like a redesign or a reconcept, master modes is what felt like a fever dream that was a complete departure from what they always talked about for the end goal

      @@Lazuralusthe most fun I had in Elite Dangerous was in an Imperial Eagle that I engineered specifically to wreck larger ships.
      I was on the bleeding edge of what my ship was capable of, if I fired my railguns and PA canon too much I would cook myself to death as the Engineered Engines ran very hot, but the Railguns and PA were the only way to get the DPS necessary to kill larger ships.
      I also had to remove my shield completely in order to have enough power for everything else. Which meant I had a very small margin for error and it was a blast
      Small fighters became the bane of my existence tho as railguns and PA canons are hard to hit on small targets.

      I did this with the Helium, Hydrogen, Bexalite mission as well. Bought 30 of each to cover what I'd need for the missions, parked at the station and turned it in one after the other. Sold off the leftovers at TDD. Bex was the only one I had to wait for, and it was like 10-15 min for restock.

    I like how they've discussed Master modes this round as currently it's missing quantum boost which is the middle mode between Quantum and SCM which we've only seen on one show and Squadron 42's video which looked very ideal, I've been waiting for quantum boost for a while. And I like that they've made ship upgrades matter in some way, being able to upgrade past basic SCM with tunings, research and so on. I'm certain the Travel mode we have currently was just a bandaid for Quantum boost

    I think the Jalopy is the first ship that falls apart while you fly it, out of combat and away from anything to run into, based on some kind of low chance calculation. Falls apart faster if you try to make sudden moves in combat. Something about that sounds fun to me.

    The modes were never the problem, its the anemic ass speeds while in SCM, and the overall complete gutting of available force our ships used to implement because of tri-chording. All they had to fucking do was increase SCM speeds by 1.5-2x there current speeds, so we could actually dodge shots flying at us at 1000+m/s. And increase overall initial impulse thrust of ships while decreasing their later acceleration so people can manuver a better.

    How about this: Start in SCM mode. As you gain speed you reach the maximum SCM speed for THAT particular ship, and the ship automatically transitions SEAMLESSLY, with perhaps an audible hum and crackle, into Quantum Boost, accelerating up to the maximum Boost speed, for THAT particular ship. (~5-10% of Quantum Travel speed) Weapons and shields automatically power down at 1500m/s. (for example) In order to travel beyond 10% of Quantum Travel speed, YOU must manually switch into Quantum Travel Mode and select a target as your destination. There should be no selection of Boost Mode required, just fluid acceleration. No need to turn off weapons, shields, life support, or anything; Just a steady acceleration curve. Each ship's SCM and Boost curves can be predictably enhanced thru component choice. Why take something so simple, and complicate it beyond reason. No need to defy all logic, or ignore the known laws of physics. No weapons or shields beyond 1500m/s for anyone. Simple.

    I did copper/titanium/tungsten for P4, was pretty easy and there was tons of stock. The worst part was having to manually load the titanium/tungsten at Lathan, I loaded up the copper at Magnus Gate because I was originally looking for bexalite and realized it was never going to be in stock and pivoted to the copper mission. Loaded up 12x8SCU, 6x4SCU, 6x2SCU and 6x1SCU crates per commodity and then knocked out the 6 missions at Pyro gate. I used the Taurus with it's tractor beam turret and made 3 trips to Pyro gate.

    Went back dogfighting for first time in ages for save stanton phases, caveat, only against buggy npcs, but when they worked I found myself manouvering and barrel rolling and evading and really enjoyed the fight over-all. I did a lot pre-master modes and can say without doubt my brief experience was much better with MM than without.

    I think that is all going to be adjusted as they start bring hull and shields online. They also said they are increasing weights and all that. I think they want to get that portion in to then figure out how the flight model changes and all that. So no point in reiterating on the system until it is all in place and then fix it as a whole unit.

Trying to figure what the everybody starting experience will be and how to personalize flying to be tailored and have effects on the economy is interesting and I am for it.     I understand their solutions not tenable, and hopefully they get feedback on this and make adjustments, but I just... (rant incoming)
    If A1 quits, it just proves how out of touch, arrogant, and self centered he is.
    Ive seen his pre-MM snub/light fighter gameplay, the average speeds during combat manouvers were like 300m/s, maybe at most 500 on the absolute fastest ship speeds. BUT, when MM came around, all he could talk about was how MM needed its flight speeds set to around 400, 500 preboost... which is the maximum flight speeds he was fighting at before MM. His ENTIRE argument was predicated on lies; he JUST does not want his pedestal as a top combat pilot even remotely rocked. And any truth that came out of his stance came about after the fact when he had to double down and think really hard about how to defend his stance (of which solutions are on the table he just ignored them).
    -MM is not bad and doesn't need to be increased in terms of speeds? Well, what about combat geometry and large ships? (flack, point defence turrets, ship armor)
    -Well, boosting feels slow. (FEELS, it isnt, its super snappy and doubles the speeds at which you can fight and effectively doesn't change how combat is as opposed to over 2 years ago. Best I would want is perhaps faster boost recharge at base. The real issue here is perspective, not master modes)
    -Ship armor will just change the meta to the smallest ship with the largest guns (which typically means slower ships, and is the ENTIRE FUCKING POINT)
    -And big shields+armor just means you die longer (unless you disable the components completely, in which case a well stocked multicrew ship can outlast the fighter... and will be dealt with appropriately through PDTs and flak turrets anyways)
    -But ship geometry at these speeds (flak. Anti fighter armaments, which was always the plan. Sure, though, non flak turrets should absolutely get a base projectile speed increase by virtue of being a turret, thats not a bad fix but that has nothing to do with MM... and you want MM to be faster, which would just exacerbate this issue anyways)
    -But But combat is just two people pointing their noses at each other and mag dumping. (Jesus fucking christ, thats just how combat IS. The most optimal firing solution is to be behind your opponent mag dumping into his butt cheeks, which applies to both fighters and means, generally speaking in a 1v1 you are both turning figure 8s trying to get behind each other, WHICH MEANS that like 50, 60% of the time your pointing your nose at each other and mag dumping. Fancy lingo does NOT mean you aren't doing this... Ive seen the footage).
    I'm not happy with a lot of what MM has done (no shields in nav was a bad choice and a lot of the old component lists don't work with the current flight model), but its not about the changes itself, it was never the changes for these people. They were upset that the skill floor was raised and more people were being allowed to compete, because this means that their eliteness wasn't as special anymore.
    In any case, sorry for the rant. A1 wont leave over this, he's too full of shit and disingenuous and its his entire career. He will just bitch and moan and make another video saying master modes is bad because he's so smart and skilled and the game wont let him be so smart and skilled any more.

    MM should be a POWER PRESET that you can apply, as in the devs ensure NO ship (or only very special ones) can have full shields, weapons, mobility AND spool quantum at the same time

    Hey Mike, I've been trying to sell this idea on spectrum: Energy sapping. QT = no shields. OK. SO, in "shield mode", you can travel as fast as your want - BUT the tradeoff is everything only charges at your set rates up to the SCM maximum. Speed up into what used to be RED on the speedometer, the energy system starts sapping the recharge/pool from gun/shield/boost automatically. The faster into the red you go, the more energy is sapped and sent to the engines. You'll still have SOME shield and SOME guns, even at 50-100% more speed than base SCM. (Particularly handy for the sluggish Starlancer!)

    From a balancing perspective it's a lot easier than what they have now. If all ships are at a set maximum speed for their current ship class, they only ever have to tweak that one number, as the crafting stuff adds to it. Every now and then they might have to move the % number the crafting adds as they include them in the game. But nerfing/buffing that initial max speed will then carry on to the upgrades if the upgrades are % based and not flat numbers themselves. Hope that makes sense. Like WoW an ability does flat damage based on your level, +% based on your item level, and then +talent bonus damage. Sounds complicated, but all they need to do is move that base damage up or down and the rest of those enhancements change with it. So a patch note will only read "X weapon now does 20% less damage" or "X ship now moves 10% slower" and that carries onto the other movement systems attached to it. It makes balancing a hell of a lot easier, and if that doesn't solve the issue, they can then dive into the component % to see if the speed issue lies there. A faster process overall.

    This might be great especially if there is a smooth transition between SCM and Nav... The way I see that change, shields will be on only up to SCM speed, as that could be justifiable in some sci-fi science-ish way and in a way keeping most of combat slower, but weapons and countermeasures would stay on up to nav-mode (and there could also be some targeting limitation when you go over SCM speeds, be it for gimballed weapons or overall). Quantum boost and jump would of course force you to lose weapons.

    There is very little Spacefight-feeling in this Spaceflight-Game.
    Actually i expect in Space to have fights in distances up to 80 or even 100km.
    Especially the bigger ships should see farther and also fire farther.
    Those 2000 to 3000m fights with the guns is actually hillariously silly.
    And regarding 17:01: In EVE people pay other people to attack enemy corporations for example to disrupt their business/their mining operations.

    Kicking it down the road - they are doing the same with the Carrack Cargo pods. They added doors but didn't make it lower to the ground like with the original concept.

    jeeeeezzzs... I can't do this BS anymore... i'm only on 3:29 and they are BS that MM will be saved by crafting and Qboost... I GIVE UP... i give up... i literaly only watch here and there mike's react videos to see if it's getting better but i'm only triggered more and more how useless iresponsible things they are doing ... and even thinks they are doing good... i can't listen to whatever lies they say after all those 12 years i've developed some kind of allergic reaction whenever they start talking anything i know it will be shit... and they can prove me wrong any time, any day, at this second they can say HEX codes are in game... but nooo noooo... overpriced idris skin that all looks the same... trigered again... i give up... i can't do this anymore...

      yes CIG ... go ahead... crafting will fix MM... that's even bigger BS then player-connected-space-station that are 50 years away from being even developed...
      I will take a 5 min break to cool down and will give a try to watch it at least first 10 minutes to see if it gets better and logical but so far it can't get worse...

    I hope that crafting different tiers of ship is rather refitting sections of a ship in order to install bigger components and/or weapons, at the cost of lifespan AND requirement of operator skills. For instance a bigger weapon can only be charged every so often without doing damage to the ship structure/ blowing out a fuse / damaging components. So an "upgrade" is not just crafting the better item, but you also got to know that the operator of that component got the experience to handle it.

    There was a flight model they had about 10 years ago that was some of the most fun I ever had, truly the fighting was about the skill of the pilot. Smaller ships had a chance in combat IF you could fly. Nowadays I try to avoid combat because it's just not fun.
