Hi Jay. Thanks for this video. I've read somewhere, that it is possible to do this without soldering - just using a pencil - probably to short some contacts.... But I don't understand how it should work. In my opinion, making a short with a pencil has not the same effect as removing the resistor?
These resistors basically act as jumpers, with little to no resistance. A piece of wire or a pencil tip would conduct the same and have the same effect. I guess it could work but I'd try some solder before trying a pencil :)
@@virtualtools_3021 nah honestly the chips don't even get that hot . I would imagine one could solder on a power4 CPU in place of the g5 since they are the same cpu like the e6550 which is a 2.8 ghz 970mp
Can I just point out for a minute that I ALMOST made a video that was under 10 minutes!!! I'll get there, someday...
Best guest star appearance in a video!
Great Video Jay That looks so Easy great web site
Thank you so much brother, awesome video - Diehard
A Geekbench would be great! Did you change the original either cooler or thermal paste?
Get well soon Jay and thanks again for the great information
Great video Jay! Nice Job.

Hello, great video! Is it possible to overclock a Mac Mini from 2011?
If it is, I don’t know how. I think overclocking a Mac became a thing of the past when the G5 was introduced.
@@TheHouseOfMoth ok, thanks and good job again.
@@danielwood6578 thank you!
Yay soldering! Nice work Jay...I think, I have no idea about this mod lol
You have at least 10 of these Mac mini's begging for such an overclock!
@@TheHouseOfMoth 10 minus 10, yes lol
@@MicroMageRepair Plenty on ebay, worth it, start shoppin ;)
@@TheHouseOfMoth yeah that sounds like a great way to spend money, who needs more HDMI ports or Switch PMICsl 😂
Mr Moth, is it dangerous to overclock these old Macs? Isn't there a risk they will burn or explode or something?
Why yes Mr Branchus, I have destroyed many a G4 CPU card :) But I've never set a Mac mini ablaze!
How about OC an iMac G5 ??? 😉😉😉
Let me know when you figure that one out! :P
i wonder if there is any way to overclock a g5
Hmm I wouldn’t mind a quad 3.0GHz 😎
Better upgrade to custom open loop water cooling to handle the heat!

Ah yes, the 1.42GHz --> 750MHz "overclock" 🤣
