Today I will show you step by step how I paint sunset with watercolor. Painting a sunset is all about creating a feeling of bright light. In order to do that we must have the right amount of contrast. In today's video I show you my process in creating this strength of light as well as my mixing, and wet into wet painting.

Matthew,
I want to tell you how much I appreciate your tutorial. It is explained very very well which is not typical for many of the artist here on You Tube.
Thanks for these great lessons for an old guy such as myself (70 now).
Thanks a lot for your excellent techniques and watercolor ideas.

Wow. This is just like a Turner sunset.
Absolutely gorgeous. You are a good teacher!
З великою цікавістю переглянула відео. Дякую.
Can’t wait to try this today! Thank you!
this painting looks gorgeous, I love the colours 😊
Thank you very much!
Great tutorial Matthew - thanks so much for these tips and guidance! :))
Gorgeous. Thank you for this tutorial.
Very nice! I’m gonna try this soon. I am new in watercolour painting.
Very instructive. So often you demo street scenes that to me anyway are not very appealing with the cars and plain buildings but I really love this one. Thank you.
Wonderful tutorial, thank you!
So beautiful. Tks for sharing your expertise.
Meraviglioso, complimenti!
I have tried this 3x and I am making mud when I add the bluish purple to the sky area. I have quin rose and pyrrol crimson for my cool reds. I didn’t think it would make a difference but maybe I’m not mixing them correctly. This is such a gorgeous painting but may be a bit over my head.
Beautiful painting.
Very helpful.
Many thanks for sharing.
Really enjoyed this one. For years I have tried to paint these sunrises and sunsets but they never turn out the way I have planned them. I’ll give your way a try. One other frustration I have with these scenes is when on sees a blue sky with scattered, often linear clouds. The clouds themselves are normally a gray to a dark gray with strong orange under belies that pretty much match the sun. No matter what I try the clouds turn to mud. I can wait for the darker clouds to dry before attempting to add the orange, or I lay in the orange and wait for it to dry before adding the gray. Still never looks right. If I go with both the orange and the gray while everything is still wet I still get a run of mud. Comments? Suggestions?
Complimenti, è stupendo 👏👏👏
Thanks for the tips
I been adding more water to my painting with acrylic paints. I like the idea.
Very helpful!! ❤
Really beautiful! Great instruction!
Glad you like it!
Thank you 😊
Do you feel sunrises and sunsets are different? Do you go deeper darker with sunsets? Or is it just what nature creates at the moment? Thanks!
So nice
Quite nice!
Thank you!
You use "rose madder permanent," which is a color name used by whatever paint brand you are using. Can you tell me what the pigment number is? Thank you. Nice video, btw :)
I'd google it. Daniel Smith sells a version of this color fyi.
Wonderful Video. How do you keep your paper that we+ ? Or is it just that you paint quickly? Mine dries too fast even when I saturate both sides. I use Arches Cp 140 lb.
👏👏👏👏☘☘🍀🍀❤❤
Super mais comment vos couleurs ne tournent elles pas au vert ?
He expertly adds Rose Madder to the blueish mixture to prevent this
I have nooooooo idea how you use that much water without your paper buckling. Even with tape, mine is buckling.
You may try heavier paper. I’m using 140lb.
